Health Promotion in Children and Youth: Contributions of Social Work in Building Collaborative Networks in Schools in Portugal

In Portugal, direct-practice with children and youth in schools was a traditional area of social work intervention especially with regard to health education. However, direct-practice by social workers in schools has significantly declined in recent years. This article presents a case study in this area highlighting the “Plataforma Saúde na Escola” (Health Platform at School), a program developed by the municipality of Cascais, located near Lisbon. The article explores new contributions for social work intervention with children and youth in schools. The program being described draws upon a collaboration of different areas and organizations in which social work is a component to promote/improve the social determinants of children’s health. The analysis of the program focuses on the methodological and ethical-political dimensions. The major finding is that the collective function of social work with children and youth people is enhanced through collaborative networks and the strengthening of empowerment, both individual and structural.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Management from the NOVA – School of Business and EconomicsThe purpose of this paper is to present a proposal of marketing plan for Pangea, a startup company that is currently seeking to develop a magazine for young women: BeYou. The project aims to study the major marketing trends in the sector, as well as to identify the business opportunity in the market in order to implement the magazine. Supported by qualitative interviews focused on the needs and preferences of young women, insights about the customers and market were acquired. By identifying an opportunity on the magazines field suited for leisure times, a plan was developed to define the appropriate positioning and marketing strategy

The taste of "IL foribundo" : an analytical study of the six Sonates Pour le Violoncelle et Basse Continue de Francesco Geminiani, according to his treatises and transcriptions

V (1746), de Francesco Geminiani (1687-1762), no que concerne especificamente ao seu estilo. Para alcançar este objetivo, foram utilizados do mesmo autor A Treatise of the Good Taste in the Art of Musick (Londres, 1749), The Art of Playing on the Violin (Londres, 1751), assim como transcrições da obra para o violino e para o cravo. Estes proporcionaram a base para discussões de caráter prático referentes à ornamentação e à condução do arco. As Sonatas Op. V se destacam dentro do repertório italiano do século XVIII para o violoncelo, por sua densidade musical e sua notação minuciosa. Assim, a investigação dos artifícios composicionais empregados por Geminiani, a contextualização histórica e biográfica da obra, somadas aos preceitos contidos nos tratados do autor, foram determinantes para a compreensão de seu gosto - termo empregado na época estreitamente associado ao estilo, conhecimento e julgamento. O exame dos recursos composicionais empregados por Geminiani no Op. V revelam uma reunião de gostos distintos - estilo patético, francês, italiano - harmonizados na forma híbrida constituída pela Sonata da Chiesa e Sonata da Camara. Estão representados também formas e estruturas composicionais como: música de dança, forma de concerto, contraponto e homofonia. Concomitantemente, observamos a adaptabilidade do compositor que, considerado um "embaixador" da escola italiana nos países onde viveu - Inglaterra, França, e Irlanda - não se ateve somente a ela. No século XVIII, o pioneirismo e a produção musical italiana do repertório e da execução dos instrumentos da família do violino foram reverenciados e adotados como modelo para os outros países. Entretanto, Geminiani caminha em uma direção independente da maioria dos seus contemporâneos, adotando em suas composições caracteres musicais de outros países, sem abandonar por completo as convicções da escola italiana no que tange à execução e ao ensino de seu instrumento. A conclusão é de que as Sonatas Op. V expõem inúmeros recursos idiomáticos do instrumento e apresentam sua adaptabilidade aos gostos vigentes na época. No entanto, a sua interpretação deve ser fundamentada na escola italiana de execução, a qual é defendida por Geminiani com inabalável convicção. Palavras-chave: Geminiani, Sonatas para violoncelo, Gosto, Interpretação, CríticaAbstract: This thesis was written with the objective of providing information to cellists regarding the interpretation of the Six Sonates Pour le Violoncelle et Basse Continue Op. V (London, 1746) by Francesco Geminiani (1687-1762), specifically concerning its style. In achieving this objective, the following texts were used: A Treatise of Good Taste in the Art of Musick (London, 1749), The Art of Playing on the Violin (London, 1751), by the same author, as well as transcriptions of the work for violin and for harpsichord. These treatises provided the basis for discussions regarding performance practice and technical issues like: ornamentation and management of the bow. The Sonatas Op. 5 distinguishes themselves within the Italian cello repertory of the 18th century due to their musical density and meticulous notation. Thus, the investigation of the compositional artifices employed by Geminiani, the historical and biographical context of his work in addition to the rules elaborated in the author's treatises, were determinative in the understanding of his taste - a term used in the era strictly associated with style, knowledge and judgment. The examination of the compositional resources used by Geminiani in the Op. 5 reveals a union of distinctive styles: the "pathetic", French and Italian styles, united in a hybrid form constituting the Sonata da chiesa and Sonata da camara. Forms and genres such as polyphony, homophony, dance and concerto forms are represented in the Op. 5 Sonatas as well. At the same time we observe the adaptability of the composer, who, considered an "ambassador" of the Italian school in the countries in which he lived, namely England, France and Ireland, did not completely keep himself adhered only to it. In the 18th century, the Italian musical production and its pioneering role in the development of the repertory and performance of the instruments of the violin family was reverentiated and adopted as the model for the other European countries. However, Geminiani went in another direction, independent of the majority of his contemporaries, adopting in his compositions the musical characteristics of other countries, without completely abandoning the convictions of the Italian school in reference to the performance and pedagogy of his instrument. One must conclude that the Op. 5 Sonatas exposes innumerable idiomatic resources of the instrument and demonstrates its adaptability to the prevailing tastes of that era. However, its interpretation must be based on the Italian school of execution which is defended by Geminiani with the unshakable conviction. Políticas Públicas e desenvolvimento da Agricultura na Ilha de Santiago - Cabo Verde

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar as políticas públicas direcionadas ao desenvolvimento do setor agrícola em Cabo Verde, mais concretamente na Ilha de Santiago. Devido, principalmente, às condições climáticas o setor agrícola sempre sofreu com alguns constrangimentos tanto no que se refere aos recursos naturais como também pela sua fraca base produtiva. A agricultura em Cabo Verde é marcada pela extrema dependência das chuvas, que são fracas e mal distribuídas no tempo e no espaço. Deste modo, isso acaba por se tornar um grave problema para o país, na medida em que a produção agrícola, por depender basicamente das chuvas, não garante a segurança alimentar da população. Em face disso, o governo cabo-verdiano nos últimos anos vem desenvolvendo alguns esforços na criação de alguns programas e planos de ação dirigidos ao desenvolvimento desse setor visando reduzir e acabar com os problemas que esse setor enfrenta devido às suas características peculiares. Para a realização deste trabalho, foram realizados 67 questionários com questões abertas e fechadas, dos quais 60 foram dirigidos aos agricultores e 7 aos atores governamentais ligados à questão agrícola no país. A técnica de tratamento dos dados utilizada para se alcançar os objetivos da pesquisa foi a análise de conteúdo. As conclusões do trabalho revelam que apesar de todos os esforços empreendidos pelo governo na criação de políticas públicas destinadas ao desenvolvimento desse setor, que este ainda não consegue desempenhar com plenitude todas as funções que lhe são conferidas no processo de desenvolvimento econômico. Essas políticas, por intermédio de alguns programas do governo destinados a esse setor beneficiam esse setor e repercutem positivamente nas condições de vida de uma pequena parcela das populações rurais, mas sabe-se que ainda há muito a se fazer para que essas melhorias não atinjam só um pequeno grupo de agricultores, mas os agricultores na sua totalidade

Consuma K-Pop, seja feliz: uma análise da felicidade nos produtos midiáticos do grupo BTS

Este trabalho traz a análise dos discursos e símbolos de felicidade presentes no K-pop, tendo como recorte os produtos midiáticos do grupo BTS, considerado o principal representante deste nicho de entretenimento atualmente. O objetivo é entender como a felicidade é utilizada neste meio como ferramenta de incentivo para o consumo, tendo como pano de fundo a impressionante ascensão mundial do K-pop e do próprio BTS. Foi realizada uma análise qualitativa de seis músicas do grupo lançadas em 2020 e 2021, tal como seus respectivos clipes, e três episódios do programa Run BTS, todos veiculados no ano de 2021. O embasamento teórico do trabalho se debruça sobre uma bibliografia que discute a relação entre a felicidade e o consumo, tendo Lipovetsky (2007) como principal autor. Nesta pesquisa, pôde-se observar a grande utilização de discursos e símbolos que ressaltam a felicidade nas músicas em inglês do BTS, que se tornaram alguns dos maiores hits de toda a carreira do grupo. Explicitou-se também tais discursos e símbolos no programa Run BTS, cujo objetivo foi entendido como ser um produto midiático que traz alegria aos fãs e associa o grupo a momentos de humor e felicidade, incentivando o público a consumir demais produtos relacionados ao BTS para se sentir bem

Assessing Pension expenditure determinants : the case of Portugal

Pension expenditure is a concern for the sustainability of public finances in the European Union. Therefore, assessing pension expenditure determinants is crucial. This study aims to disentangle the impact of demographic and economic variables, such as ageing, productivity, and unemployment, on pension expenditure. Using Portuguese time-series data, from 1975 to 2014, statistical evidence was found of co-integration between unemployed people aged between 15 and 64 years old, apparent productivity of labour, the old-age dependence index and pension expenditure as a share of gross domestic product. The use of a vector error correction model, with impulse-response functions and variance decomposition, showed that ageing has an almost insignificant impact in the long-run, when compared with unemployment and productivity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The Role of Saliva in Food Sensory Perception: Relevant Knowledge to Design Healthy Foods

Food choices and consumption are determined by a range of factors that contribute to aversion or pleasure and guide to final intake. Among these, the sensorial characteristics of food have a major and decisive role in choice behaviour. Although some of the mechanisms involved in oral food perception, namely in taste and astringency perception, are considerable known, many questions remains, particularly in what concerns variations among individuals in their sensitivity for food sensorial aspects. The understanding of the mechanisms leading to different responses for the same sensorial stimulus is particularly important to understand food choices. Bitter has been the basic taste most studied for variations among individuals in perception and in how this influences food behaviour and nutritional status. The observation, at several years ago, that some individuals are very sensitive to the bitterness of the compounds phenyl thiocarbamide (PTC) or 6-n-propylthyouracil (PROP), whereas others are almost insensitive, triggered the emergence of diverse studies about the motif for that, resulting in the identification of gene polymorphisms for the bitter taste receptor TAS2R38. Subsequently to that, polymorphisms for other receptors and taste qualities have been identified. Even so, these genetic variations are not able to explain the total diversity in taste/oral sensations responses. In recent years, it has begun to become apparent that saliva has a relevant role in taste recognition mechanisms. Apart from astringency, which is well known to depend on salivary proteins to develop and being perceived, basic tastes started to be related with saliva composition. Some salivary proteins, among which carbonic anhydrase VI, cystatins, amylase and others, have been observed to relate with taste perception. However, saliva secretion changes with taste stimulation and according dietary habits. Moreover, body weight condition, metabolic status or diverse pathologies are responsible for changes in saliva composition. Being this fluid important in modulating oral food perception, to know individuals’ saliva composition becomes of interest for modulating or directing choices. Based on the literature and recent scientific results, the role of saliva in food sensory perception will be discussed according to these two angles.
