On the Sobolev trace Theorem for variable exponent spaces in the critical range

    Get PDF
In this paper we study the Sobolev Trace Theorem for variable exponent spaces with critical exponents. We find conditions on the best constant in order to guaranty the existence of extremals. Then we give local conditions on the exponents and on the domain (in the spirit of Adimurthy and Yadava) in order to satisfy such conditions, and therefore to ensure the existence of extremals.Comment: 21 pages, submitte

A Gamma convergence approach to the critical Sobolev embedding in variable exponent spaces

    Get PDF
In this paper, we study the critical Sobolev embeddings W1,p(.)(Ω)⊂Lp*(.)(Ω) for variable exponent Sobolev spaces from the point of view of the Γ-convergence. More precisely we determine the Γ-limit of subcritical approximation of the best constant associated with this embedding. As an application we provide a sufficient condition for the existence of extremals for the best constant.Fil: Fernandez Bonder, Julian. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Circlator: automated circularization of genome assemblies using long sequencing reads

    Get PDF
The assembly of DNA sequence data is undergoing a renaissance thanks to emerging technologies capable of producing reads tens of kilobases long. Assembling complete bacterial and small eukaryotic genomes is now possible, but the final step of circularizing sequences remains unsolved. Here we present Circlator, the first tool to automate assembly circularization and produce accurate linear representations of circular sequences. Using Pacific Biosciences and Oxford Nanopore data, Circlator correctly circularized 26 of 27 circularizable sequences, comprising 11 chromosomes and 12 plasmids from bacteria, the apicoplast and mitochondrion of Plasmodium falciparum and a human mitochondrion. Circlator is available at http://sanger-pathogens.github.io/circlator/

A mobile and evolving tool to predict colorectal cancer survivability

    Get PDF
In this work, a tool for the survivability prediction of patients with colon or rectal cancer, up to five years after diagnosis and treatment, is presented. Indeed, an accurate survivability prediction is a difficult task for health care professionals and of high concern to patients, so that they can make the most of the rest of their lives. The distinguishing features of the tool include a balance between the number of necessary inputs and prediction performance, being mobile-friendly, and featuring an online learning component that enables the automatic evolution of the prediction models upon the addition of new cases. This work has been supported by FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia within the Project Scope UID/CEC/00319/2013. Sharp affine Sobolev type inequalities via the Lp Busemann–Petty centroid inequality

    Get PDF
We show that the Lp Busemann-Petty centroid inequality provides an elementary and powerful tool to the study of some sharp affine functional inequalities with a geometric content, like log-Sobolev, Sobolev and Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities. Our approach allows also to characterize directly the corresponding equality cases.Coordenação de aperfeiçoamento de pessoal de nivel superiorInstituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e AplicadaConselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e TecnológicoFundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerai
