Concordance invariants and the Turaev genus
We show that the differences between various concordance invariants of knots,
including Rasmussen's -invariant and its generalizations -invariants,
give lower bounds to the Turaev genus of knots. Using the fact that our bounds
are nontrivial for some quasi-alternating knots, we show the additivity of
Turaev genus for a certain class of knots. This leads us to the first example
of an infinite family of quasi-alternating knots with Turaev genus exactly
for any fixed positive integer , solving a question of Champanerkar-Kofman.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures. Some references are added or corrected. More

Hierarchical Joint Graph Learning and Multivariate Time Series Forecasting
Multivariate time series is prevalent in many scientific and industrial
domains. Modeling multivariate signals is challenging due to their long-range
temporal dependencies and intricate interactions--both direct and indirect. To
confront these complexities, we introduce a method of representing multivariate
signals as nodes in a graph with edges indicating interdependency between them.
Specifically, we leverage graph neural networks (GNN) and attention mechanisms
to efficiently learn the underlying relationships within the time series data.
Moreover, we suggest employing hierarchical signal decompositions running over
the graphs to capture multiple spatial dependencies. The effectiveness of our
proposed model is evaluated across various real-world benchmark datasets
designed for long-term forecasting tasks. The results consistently showcase the
superiority of our model, achieving an average 23\% reduction in mean squared
error (MSE) compared to existing models.Comment: Temporal Graph Learning Workshop @ NeurIPS 2023, New Orleans, United

Influence of Herbal Complexes Containing Licorice on Potassium Levels: A Retrospective Study
To observe the influence of these complexes on potassium levels in a clinical setting, we investigated the influence of herbal complexes containing licorice on potassium levels. We retrospectively examined the medical records of patients treated with herbal complexes containing licorice from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2010. We recorded the changes in the levels of potassium, creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen and examined the differences between before and after herbal complexes intake using a paired t-test. In addition, we investigated the prevalence of hypokalemia among these patients and reviewed such patients. We identified 360 patients who did not show significant changes in the levels of potassium and creatinine (P=0.815, 0.289). We observed hypokalemia in 6 patients. However, in 5 patients, the hypokalemia did not appear to be related to the licorice. Thus, we could suggest that herbal complexes containing licorice do not significantly influence the potassium levels in routine clinical herbal therapies. However, we propose that follow-up examination for potassium levels is required to prevent any unpredictable side effects of administration of licorice in routine herbal medicine care
Acupuncture for Spasticity after Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
The aim of this systematic review was to determine how effective acupuncture or electroacupuncture (acupuncture with electrical stimulation) is in treating poststroke patients with spasticity. We searched publications in Medline, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library in English, 19 accredited journals in Korean, and the China Integrated Knowledge Resources Database in Chinese through to July 30, 2013. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with no language restrictions that compared the effects of acupuncture or electroacupuncture with usual care or placebo acupuncture. The two investigators assessed the risk of bias and statistical analyses were performed. Three RCTs in English, 1 in Korean, and 1 in Chinese were included. Assessments were performed primarily with the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS). Meta-analysis showed that acupuncture or electroacupuncture significantly decreased spasticity after stroke. A subgroup analysis showed that acupuncture significantly decreased wrist, knee, and elbow spasticity in poststroke patients. Heterogeneity could be explained by the differences in control, acupoints, and the duration after stroke occurrence. In conclusion, acupuncture could be effective in decreasing spasticity after stroke, but long-term studies are needed to determine the longevity of treatment effects
Wind Power Density(풍력밀도)
Abstract The wind speed at the altitude around 300 m is much higher and less variable than at the altitude around 80 m which is the same height of the MW class tower turbine's hub height. The wind power density is increased 0.37 W/m 2 per meter at the altitude around 6 to 7 km and 0.25 W/m 2 per meter at the altitude around 80 to 500 m. There are two types of power generation systems using lifting bodies. The one is that The generator is installed in the ground station and stretched into the lifting body through the tether. The other is that the generator is installed in the lifting body and stretched into the ground station through the tether. Many kinds of lifting bodies are also researched in the world, called kites, wings, single or twin aerostat, and so on. This article introduced the technical development status and the market prospects of the high altitude wind power generation system all over the world in detail. Key word
RaidEnv: Exploring New Challenges in Automated Content Balancing for Boss Raid Games
The balance of game content significantly impacts the gaming experience.
Unbalanced game content diminishes engagement or increases frustration because
of repetitive failure. Although game designers intend to adjust the difficulty
of game content, this is a repetitive, labor-intensive, and challenging
process, especially for commercial-level games with extensive content. To
address this issue, the game research community has explored automated game
balancing using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. However, previous
studies have focused on limited game content and did not consider the
importance of the generalization ability of playtesting agents when
encountering content changes. In this study, we propose RaidEnv, a new game
simulator that includes diverse and customizable content for the boss raid
scenario in MMORPG games. Additionally, we design two benchmarks for the boss
raid scenario that can aid in the practical application of game AI. These
benchmarks address two open problems in automatic content balancing, and we
introduce two evaluation metrics to provide guidance for AI in automatic
content balancing. This novel game research platform expands the frontiers of
automatic game balancing problems and offers a framework within a realistic
game production pipeline.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, 6 tables, 2 algorithm
Pretransplant BKV-IgG serostatus and BKV-specific ELISPOT assays to predict BKV infection after kidney transplantation
IntroductionPolyomavirus (BKV) infection can lead to major complications and damage to the graft in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). We investigated whether pretransplant BK serostatus and BK-specific cell-mediated immunity (CMI) predicts post-transplant BK infection.MethodsA total of 93 donor-recipient pairs who underwent kidney transplantation (KT) and 44 healthy controls were examined. Assessment of donor and recipient BKV serostatus and BKV-CMI in recipients was performed prior to transplantation using BKV-IgG ELISA and BKV-specific IFN-g ELISPOT assays against five BK viral antigens (LT, St, VP1, VP2, and VP3). BK viremia was diagnosed when blood BKV-DNA of 104 copies/mL or more was detected during follow-up periods. ResultsAnti-BKV IgG antibody was detected in 74 (79.6%) of 93 KTRs and in 68 (73.1%) of 93 KT donors. A greater percentage of KTRs who received allograft from donors with high levels of anti-BKV IgG had posttransplant BK viremia (+) than KTRs from donors with low anti-BKV IgG (25.5% [12/47] vs. 4.3% [2/46], respectively; P = 0.007). Pretransplant total BKV-ELISPOT results were lower in BK viremia (+) patients than in patients without viremia (-) 20.5 [range 9.9−63.6] vs. 72.0 [43.2 - 110.8]; P = 0. 027). The sensitivity and specificity of the total BKV-ELISPOT assay (cut-off ≤ 53 spots/3×105 cells) for prediction of posttransplant BK viremia were 71.4 (95% CI: 41.9–91.6) and 54.4 (42.8–65.7), respectively. The combination of high donor BKV-IgG, low recipient BKV-IgG, and low total BKV-ELISPOT results improved specificity to 91.1%.DiscussionOur study highlights the importance of pretransplant BKV-IgG serostatus and BKV-specific CMI in predicting posttransplant BKV infection in KTRs. The combination of high donor BKV-IgG, low recipient BKV-IgG, and low total BKV-ELISPOT results predicted BK viremia after KT. Pretransplant identification of patients at highrisk for BK viremia could enable timely interventions and improve clinical outcomes of KTRs
The Impact of Korean Medicine Treatment on the Incidence of Parkinson's Disease in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study in South Korea
We aimed to investigate the association between Korean medicine (KM) treatment and the risk of Parkinson's Disease (PD) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in South Korea. This study analyzed data from the National Health Insurance Service-Senior cohort in South Korea. The 1816 IBD patients enrolled in the analysis comprised 411 who received only conventional treatment (monotherapy group) and 1405 who received both conventional and KM treatments (integrative therapy group). The risk of PD in patients with IBD was significantly lower in the integrative therapy group than in the monotherapy group after adjusting for confounding variables (adjusted hazard ratio (HR), 0.56; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.34-0.92). In the mild Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) group, the risk of PD in patients with IBD in the integrative therapy group was 0.39 times lower (adjusted HR, 95% CI = 0.20-0.77) than that in the monotherapy group. However, there was no significant difference in the risk of PD in patients with IBD between the integrative therapy and monotherapy groups among individuals with severe CCI (adjusted HR, 0.90; 95% CI = 0.41-1.96). IBD patients are at a decreased risk of PD when they receive integrative therapy. KM treatment may prevent PD in IBD patients.Y
Dissociation of ssDNA - Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Hybrids by Watson-Crick Base Pairing
The unwrapping event of ssDNA from the SWNT during the Watson-Crick base
paring is investigated through electrical and optical methods, and binding
energy calculations. While the ssDNA-metallic SWNT hybrid shows the p-type
semiconducting property, the hybridization product recovered metallic
properties. The gel electrophoresis directly verifies the result of wrapping
and unwrapping events which was also reflected to the Raman shifts. Our
molecular dynamics simulations and binding energy calculations provide
atomistic description for the pathway to this phenomenon. This nano-physical
phenomenon will open up a new approach for nano-bio sensing of specific
sequences with the advantages of efficient particle-based recognition, no
labeling, and direct electrical detection which can be easily realized into a
microfluidic chip format.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
