    Pediatric toothpastes in the inhibition of Streptococcus mutans, in vitro study

    Introducci贸n. La caries dental es una enfermedad multifactorial, biofilmdependiente y de alta prevalencia, que afecta a millones de personas a nivel mundial, principalmente  en edad temprana, la aplicaci贸n de dent铆fricos para su prevenci贸n es una de las estrategias m谩s utilizadas, existiendo en el mercado una amplia oferta de estos productos, por lo que es importante demostrar la efectividad frente al principal agente causal microbiano. Objetivo.  Evaluar la efectividad de cinco marcas de pastas dentales pedi谩tricas en la inhibici贸n de Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 y establecer su relaci贸n con la concentraci贸n de fl煤or. Metodolog铆a. El estudio fue de tipo descriptivo, observacional de corte transversal, no experimental. Las unidades experimentales estuvieron conformadas por 50 cajas de agar M眉eller-Hinton enriquecido con sangre, en las que se inocul贸 la cepa de Streptococcus mutans y se coloc贸 disco con las pastas dentales: Colgate KIDS ZERO, Blendax Kids, Trial KIDS, Oral-B KID鈥橲 y Blendy COOL, en disoluciones 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16 y 1:32 para cada marca. Se incub贸 a 36潞C por 48 horas y posteriormente se midi贸 los halos de inhibici贸n, se replic贸 el experimento 10 veces por muestra y los datos se procesan en SPSS versi贸n 36. Resultados. Se determin贸 que existe mayor efecto inhibitorio en diluci贸n 1:2 sobresaliendo las marcas Blendax Kids y Blendy Cool (X =12.20 mm; X=12.10mm), seguido de la diluci贸n 1:4 Oral B Kids y Blendax Kid (X =10.5 mm; X=10.12mm), en diluciones 1:8 y 1:16, el efecto inhibitorio disminuye en dent铆fricos como Trial Kids y Colgate Zero y es nulo en las otras pastas dentales. Conclusi贸n. Las pastas Blendax Kids y Blendy Cool en disoluci贸n 1:2 presentan mayor eficacia, en condiciones de laboratorio comparada con las dem谩s diluciones y marcas de estudio, adem谩s se demostr贸 que existe diferencia estad铆sticamente significativa entre los valores inhibitorios mostrados entre las pastas evaluadas (p= 0,001) y no existe correlaci贸n entre el efecto inhibitorio y la concentraci贸n de fl煤or. 脕rea de estudio general: Odontolog铆a. 脕rea de estudio espec铆fica: Odontopediatr铆a, microbiolog铆a. The experimental units were made up of 50 boxes of M眉eller-Hinton agar enriched with blood, in which the strain of Streptococcus mutans was inoculated and a disc was placed with the toothpastes: Colgate KIDS ZERO, Blendax Kids, Trial KIDS, Oral-B KID'S and Blendy COOL, in 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16 and 1:32 solutions for each brand. It was incubated at 36潞C for 48 hours and subsequently the inhibition zones were measured, the experiment was replicated 10 times per sample and the data were processed in SPSS version 36. Results. It is established that there are greater inhibitory effects in 1:2 dilution, highlighting the brands Blendax Kids and Blendy Cool (X =12.20 mm); X = 10.12mm), in dilutions 1: 8 and 1:16, the inhibitor effect decreases in dentifriques such as Trial Kids and Colgate Zero and is void in the other dental pastes. Conclusion. The Blendax Kids and Blendy Cool pastes in 1:2 solution have greater effectiveness, under laboratory conditions compared to the other dilutions and brands of the study, it was also demonstrated that there is a statistically significant difference between the inhibitory values 鈥嬧媠hown between the evaluated pastes (p= 0.001) and there is no compensation between the inhibitory effect and the fluorine concentration.
