Enriching Caring Pedagogy Through Faculty-Librarian Partnerships
Nursing faculty at Notre Dame of Maryland University and librarians at Loyola/Notre Dame Library have partnered to strengthen the caring science curriculum through the incorporation of information literacy instruction in the RN-to-BSN program. In this article, the authors explain how partnering to teach information literacy empowers students toward autonomy as they become active participants in the learning process. The authors’ reflections align with Hills and Watson’s (2011) three major elements of caring relationships–collaboration, power/empowerment, and participation–which are used as a framework to demonstrate this partnership

Research practices of public health faculty scholars at UIC
This report presents the results of a study conducted at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) as one of a parallel suite of studies coordinated by Ithaka S+R, a not-for-profit research organization providing guidance to colleges and universities (http://www.sr.ithaka.org/about/). The liaison librarian to the School of Public Health (SPH) and the Head Librarian for the Information Services & Research department, from the Library of the Health Sciences (LHS) at UIC, conducted the study. With this project, we aimed to explore the information habits, needs, and preferences of public health faculty when conducting research. This report will focus on UIC SPH faculty reflections surrounding four major themes related to research: Information Discovery, Data Management Practices, Research Dissemination, and Collaboration. We will discuss these themes in the context of library services and conclude with recommendations on how the library can best meet faculty needs. We hope that these findings may inform future development and improvement of library services and resources

Knowing What We Don’t Know: A Survey of School Nurse Information Needs
Providing complex care for students requires an informed school nurse workforce. However, school nurses, many of whom work independently, may not know where to find necessary information. This study seeks to understand the information needs of school nurses by conducting a needs assessment survey within the state of Illinois. A survey was disseminated through three statewide professional listservs to determine the types of care-related questions school nurses ask as part of their regular duties and which resources they use to answer those questions. School nurses’ information needs vary widely, and they rely on numerous sources to answer clinical questions. They are responsible for the well-being of hundreds to thousands of children. While they are comfortable searching for information, they are motivated to further develop research skills
