Contrastive Analysis on the Theme/rheme Structure on Headlines of the Jakarta Post and Media Indonesia

This study is to investigate the contrastive structure of Theme/ Rheme analysis in identifying marked and unmarked Themes in English and Indonesian headlines. The study takes as its starting point the assumption that the different choices of Theme/ Rheme, their organization at the local and global structures and the pres-entation of Given/New information of the headlines presented in English and Indonesian. This study designs a Discourse Analysis. It analyzes Theme/Rheme in Indonesian and English clauses. The study seeks to ana-lyze and compare the different choices of Theme/Rheme in the thematic structures. These issues are investi-gated in a corpus of English and Indonesian headline about lieu of law on direct regional election. Most of the Theme used was marked themes. ÉLABORATION D’UN DICTIONNAIRE THÉMATIQUE ET ILLUSTRÉ POUR LES APPRENANTS DU FLE NIVEAU A2

Penelitian dengan metode penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) ini dilakukan karena diindikasikan bahwa mahasiswa bahasa Perancis pemula (level A1/A2) FPBS UPI sebagai sampel penelitian, mengalami kesulitan dalam menguasai bahasa Perancis terutama dalam penguasaan kosakata. Adapun tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui : 1) apakah mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan leksikal dan apa yang mereka butuhkan untuk mengatasinya, 2) pendapat mahasiswa terhadap pembuatan kamus bahasa Indonesia-Perancis tematik dan ilustratif, 3) kemungkinan kamus tersebut menjadi salah satu solusi mengatasi kesulitan leksikal, 4) kelebihan dan kekurangan kamus. Dan dengan melakukan analisis kebutuhan melalui data angket, diperoleh data bahwa hampir seluruh mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam penguasaan kosakata dan mereka membutuhkan media pembelajaran mandiri yang inovatif. Oleh karena itu, kami membuat kamus bahasa Indonesia-Perancis tematik dan ilustratif sebagai salah satu media pembelajaran mereka. Dan dari hasil ujicoba kamus tersebut melalui tes dan evaluasi dengan angket, kami memperoleh kesimpulan : 1) 82,4% mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan leksikal terutama dalam penguasaan kosakata dan mereka membutuhkan media pembelajaran mandiri yang inovatif, berwarna dan bergambar, 2) mahasiswa memberikan tanggapan yang sangat positif terhadap pembuatan kamus tersebut, 3) kamus tersebut dapat menjadi salah satu solusi untuk mengatasi kesulitan leksikal dan 4) kelebihan dari kamus tersebut adalah sangat mudah digunakan dan sangat menarik, sedangkan kekurangannya terletak pada penyajian yang kurang rapi.;--- The conducted present study used R&D method because French Language beginner students (level A1/A2) FPBS UPI as the sample, were indicated having difficulties in mastering French language especially in vocabularies. The study aims to investigate: 1) Do the students have difficulties in lexical and what they need to solve it, 2) students’ opinion toward the Indonesia language-French dictionary building, 3) possibilities of the dictionary as the solution solve the lexical difficulties, 4) the strength and weakness of the dictionary. The study analyzed the survey data and gained that almost all the students have difficulties in mastering the vocabularies and they need the independent and innovative media. Thus we build the thematic and illustrative Indonesia language-French dictionary as their learning media. And from the test result of its dictionary by test and survey evaluation, we gained the conclusion: 1) 82,4% students have lexical difficulties, especially in mastering the vocabularies and they need the independent, innovative, colorful, and picture-full learning media, 2) students give the positive respond to the dictionary, 3) the dictionary can be the problem solver for the lexical difficulties, 4) the strength of the dictionary is the easy-used of the dictionary and very interesting, and the weakness is in the less neat presentation

5 and 7 Year Old Childrenwith No English Background RespondToward Parents’ Stimulus Using the Comprehensible Inputs on Direct English Daily Conversations at Home

This paper seeks to explorehow the comprehensible inputs are given by mother   responded by the children who have no English background and what are the discourse features which aid children’s comprehension and ability to maintain the conversation. This study is conducted in the writer’s home with her sons in order to apply the comprehensible inputs. The results shows that the children ages 5 and 7 years old who have no English background are able to give the responses unless the questions or the stimulus given must be followed by the non verbal language such as gesture and the body movements. In this case, the results can be varied. From the stimulus using the comprehensible inputs, the children are also giving different responses. It can be in the form of non-verbal language such as nodding or by repeating the last word said by their mother. ÉCRITURE EN FRANÇAIS CHEZ LES APPRENANTS DÉBUTANTS

Les érits en français sont compliqués pour les apprenants du FLE, surtout les débutants. Il y a beaucoup de réglements ou de conditions qu’ils doivent se respecter. Une bonne écriture ne se limite pas à de bonnes phrases et des lexiques convenables, de bonnes idées, etc., mais aussi une bonne grammaire. En conséquence, il leur est difficile d'écrire en français. Pour cette raison, l'auteur conduit une recherche sur la compétence d’écrire avec la problématique proposée : 1) Quelles erreurs grammaticales, lexicales, d’écriture ou de typographie faites par des étudiants? 2) Quelles sont les solutions pour les résoudre? Ainsi pour répondre et trouver les réponses de cette problématique, nous faisons donc une recherche qualitative en faisant l’analyse des erreurs. Par conséquent, on peut répondre toutes les questions de cette recherche. De plus, on peut trouver et donner aussi des bonnes solutions pour les débutants à écrire facilement et simplement en français

The Effect of Problem Based Learning on Cognitive Outcome in Science Subject in Junior High School : Topic Water Pollution

The research aimed to determine the effect off Problem Based Learning in science learning on cognitive outcomes of 7th grade at junior high school on the topic of water pollution. This research is an experimental research. The research sample was selected by random sampling technique. The research data was collected through pre-test and post-test using cognitive learning outcome instruments. Analysis data using t-test. The results showed the Problem Based Leearning significantly improved on cognitive outcome this can be seen from the increase in the post-test in the experimental group compared to the control group (74.43>68.23). Based on the resultd of these studies indicate that the use of Problem Based Learning affectes the learning of science on the cognitive outcomes of 7th grade at junior high school on the topic of water pollution

Violating the Maxims of Quality and Quantity on the ‘Demo Sabun' Sketch of Extravaganza Situation Comedy TV

This study focuses on analyzing the violation of maxims as proposed by Grice in his cooperative principles. The subject of the study is on one of TV sitcoms broadcasted by one of the private owned TV station in Indonesia. The writer collected the data by transcribing the dialogues among the comedian in one sketch. In this modern era there are many busy people who need such kind of entertainment to lead them release their fatigue after having a day work. This situation invites some creative people to produce humor which is then packaged in the form situation comedy. These sitcoms can be broadcasted in many television stations now. In creating such funny expressions, there must be the violation on some maxims. By violating the maxims; the humorous verbal interaction can be achieved. The writer found that there are two types of violation on maxims of quality and quantity in one of the extravaganza's sketches

Overview English Asa Second Language for Young Learners

Young learners have special charactheristics hence the teachers of English as a Second language needs special strategy too. It is indicated that the increas of abilities to learn second language is started from the early age. We can imagine when the teachers do not use and apply appropriate teaching methods and strategy in teaching English for young learners. As a result, the students' achievement does not work well. PENGGUNAAN MEDIA KAHOOT UNTUK MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR MATA PELAJARAN SISTEM OPERASI SISWA KELAS X TEKNIK KOMPUTER DAN JARINGAN DI SMK NEGERI 1 GEMPOL

Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar mata pelajaran Sistem Operasi pada siswa kelas X Teknik Komputer dan Jarigan di SMK Negeri 1 Gempol dengan menggunakan Kahoot. Tindakan yang digunakan terdiri atas 2 siklus, dimana masing-masing siklus terdiri atas 4 tahapan yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Jumlah siswa di kelas ini adalah 36. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes hasil belajar, lembar observasi, dan angket siswa. Analisis data yang dilakukan adalah analisis data kuantitatif dan analisis kualitatif.  Nilai rata-rata pada pertemuan ke-1 adalah 70 dengan ketuntasan belajar 50, 00% dan nilai rata-rata pada pertemuan ke-2 sebesar 73 dengan ketuntasan belajar 63, 89%. Pada siklus II, diperoleh rata-rata nilai tes pada pertemuan ke-1 sebesar 77 dengan persentase ketuntasan belajar 80,56% dan pada pertemuan ke-2 nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 79 dengan ketuntasan belajar 86,11%.  Nilai ketuntasan belajar adalah ≥75. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada siklus II terjadi peningkatan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa dari siklus I.  Hasil angket siswa dan observasi menunjukkan tanggapan yang baik dari siswa. The Error Analysis on the Students of English Department Speaking Scripts

Speaking skill is different from writing skill. Writing is a formal skill, soas a writer he or she must be consistently follow the formal procedures.It is different from the speaking skill which doesn‘t so strict inaccommodating the formal rules. The Writing of script at Speaking 2lecture is the focus of this study because the scripts are presented afterthey prepare for having conversation. Through writing the speakingscript the students learn carefully of khow to deliver a conversationpurposefully and use the language features correctly even in oralcommunication. Moreover, in speaking they are able to convey theirfeeling, emotion and thought. The purposes of this study are to know thekind of grammatical errors made by the students of the EnglishDepartment in writing their speaking scripts and the sources of studentsin making error in writing the speaking scripts. The researcher takes thesubjects of students of the second semester of the English DepartmentSTAIN Salatiga in academic year of 2012/2013 as they took Speaking 2subject. And to collect the data the researcher used test anddocumentation. The result of this study explains that the writer analyzedthe errors made by the students included the use of grammatical rules,vocabulary choice by implementing error analysis. In addition, the errors are analyzed such as the use of preposition, subject pronoun, objectpronoun, verbs and nouns, irregular verbs, tenses, pronouns andpossessive case, word choice, writing questions, and conditionalsentence. Keterampilan berbicara berbeda dari keterampilan menulis dalampembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Menulis adalah keterampilan formal,sehingga para penulis harus konsisten untuk mengikuti prosedur resmidalam menulis. Hal ini berbeda dengan keterampilan berbicara yangtidak mengikuti aturan formal seperti halnya keterampilan berbicara.Fokus dari penelitian ini adalah penulisan naskah speaking di matakuliah speaking 2 yang mana nantinya naskah dibuat setelah mahasiswamempersiapkan rancangan untuk percakapan. Dengan menulis naskahuntuk berbicara mahasiswa dapat belajar dengan lebih teliti untukberbicara atau dalam percakapan dalam bahasa Inggris dengan baik danbenar. HUBUNGAN KUALITAS PELAYANAN KESEHATAN DENGAN KEPUASAN PASIEN RUANG MINA RSI AHMAD YANI SURABAYA

Kenyataan sehari-hari masih banyak ditemukan pasien yang datang berkunjung ke rumah sakit masih belum sepenuhnya mengatakan puas kepada pelayanan rumah sakit yang sedang atau telah dikunjungi. Persaingan yang semakin ketat akhir-akhir ini menuntut sebuah lembaga penyedia jasa atau layanan untuk selalu memanjakan konsumen dengan memberikan pelayanan yang terbaik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan kualitas pelayanan kesehatan dengan kepuasan pasien ruang mina RSI Surabaya. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan studi analitik observasional jenis cross sectional. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling diperoleh sampel sebesar 60 pasien. Pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan kuisioner. Analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan uji korelasi spearmen rank yang diolah menggunakan spss. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas pelayanan kesehatan di ruang Mina RSI Ahmad Yani Surabaya memiliki kualitas pelayanan kesehatan tinggi sebesar 45,0%. Sedangkan kepuasan pasien memiliki kepuasan pasien yang tidak puas sebesar (38,3%). Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa terdapat hubungan kualitas pelayanan kesehatan dengan kepuasan pasien di ruang Mina RSI Ahmad Yani Surabaya dengan signifikan p – value sebesar 0,040 < α (0,1) dan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,266 yang artinya ada hubungan kualitas pelayanan kesehatan dengan kepuasan pasien di ruang Mina RSI Surabaya dalam kategori rendah
