    Peningkatan Kemampuan Berbicara Bahasa Inggris melalui Teknik 4/3/2

    The objectives of the research are: a)  to design a speaking English learning in form of appropriate Lesson Plan using 4/3/2 technique at SMA N 1 Gedongtataan pesawaran Lampung; b) to describe the implementation of appropriate speaking English learning using4/3/2 technique at SMA N 1 Gedongtataan; c) to arrange an appropriate evaluation system of speaking English learning using 4/3/2 technique. The subjects of the research were 32 students of special class of X b. The results showed that by the implementation of 4/3/2 technique, there were improvements not only in  students’ speaking ability but also in the improvements of students’ learning activities. The improvement of the speaking abilities can be seen from various aspects: comprehension, fluency, pronunciation, and vocabulary. This means that at the initial position the students score of speaking was 59.37 percent at cycle I, then it increased to 81.25 percent at the second sycle, and finally increased to 93.62 percent at the third cycle.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: a) mendesain pembelajaran berbicara Bahasa Inggris dalam bentuk RPP yang tepat dengan menggunakan Teknik 4/3/2 di SMA Negeri I Gedongtataan Pesawaran Lampung, b) mendeskripsikan pelaksanaan pembelajaran berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan tepat menggunakan Teknik 4/3/2 di SMA Negeri 1 Gedongtataan, c) menyusun sistem evaluasi pembelajaran berbicara Bahasa Inggris yang tepat dengan menggunakan Teknik 4/3/2. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas unggulan X b yang berjumlah 32 orang. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan dengan penggunaan teknik 4/3/2 adanya peningkatan baik dalam hal kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris, maupun dalam aktivitas belajar siswa. Peningkatan kemampuan berbicara terlihat dari berbagai aspek baik dalam hal comprehension, fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary , yakni yang semula hanya 59,37 persen pda siklus I meningkat menjadi 81,25 persen pada siklus II, dan 93,62 persen  pada siklus III

    A Comparative Study Between Handwritten and Computer Text Essays on Raters' Scores

    This study aims at finding out the effect on essays presented as handwritten and as computer printed text on raters' scores and whether the length of the essays influences the scoring. Twenty one (21) sample essays were randomly selected and produced by students of English Study Program of Lampung University. The essays were presented in three different formats: handwritten, computer text in single space, and computer text in double space. This research applied one shot case study design and the data were analyzed using one way ANOVA. The result revealed that handwritten essays received higher scores than those in computer printed texts. The F-value was 5.5 while the F-table was 5.05 and the p value was 0.006. It revealed that there was statistically different mean on raters' scores. It is suggested that the future researchers to analyze the causes of presentation effect on raters scores and to apply the more valid strategies to reduce the presentation effect

    Correlation Between Grammar Mastery And Descriptive Writing Ability

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu apakah ada hubungan antara penguasaan tata bahasa siswa terhadap kemampuan menulis deskripsi. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes penguasaan tata bahasa dan tes menulis deskripsi. Hasil dari analisis menunjukan bahwa ada korelasi antara penguasaan tata bahasa siswa dan kemampuan menulis deskripsi mereka sebesar 0.868 pada level signifikan dari 0.05 dengan nilai r tabel 0.361 dan nilai p nya 0.000. Hubungan antara penguasaan tata bahasa siswa dan kemampuan mereka dalam menulis deskripsi dikatakan signifikan karena korelasi koefisien lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai r tabel (0.868> 0.61) dengan p (probability) 0.000 yang lebih kecil daripada 0.05. Semakin baik penguasaan tata bahasa seseorang maka semakin baik pula kemampuan menulis nya. Jadi, seseorang yang ingin memperbaiki kemampuan menulisnya harus mempelajari tata bahasa.The objective of this research is to find out whether there is correlation between the students’ grammar mastery and their descriptive writing ability. The instruments to collect the data were grammar mastery test and descriptive writing test. The result of the analysis shows that there is a correlation of the students’ grammar mastery and their descriptive writing to 0.868 at the significant level of 0.05 with the critical value of r table 0.361 and p was 0.000. The correlation of the students’ grammar mastery and their descriptive writing ability is significant since the coefficient correlation is higher than the critical value of r table (0.868 > 0.361) with p 0.000 which is less than 0.05. The better one’s grammar mastery the better his or her writing ability. Therefore, those who want to improve their writing ability should learn grammar

    Improving Students\u27 Writing Descriptive Text Ability Through Realia

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan yang signifikan secara statistik pada kemampuan menulis deskriptif teks siswa setelah belajar menggunakan realia. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sasaran penelitian ini sebanyak 25 siswa kelas VIII.A di MTs. Raudlatul Muta\u27allimin Kasui, Way Kanan. Tes menulis (pretest dan posttest) digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Hasil menunjukan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan secara statistik pada pencapaian kemampuan menulis siswa dengan tingkat signifikansi p<0.05. Dapat disarankan bahwa pengajaran menulis menggunakan realia membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menulis.     Students' English Literature Products Preference And Vocabulary In Writing

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan apakah siswa dengan preferensi produk literatur yang berbeda mempunyai prestasi vocabulary yang berbeda dalam hal writing. Dalam penelitian ini, apa yang peneliti maksud dengan prestasi vocabulary adalah word count, lexical density, dan readability.Sampel diambil dari mahasiswa Program Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Lampung. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif; peneliti menggunakan studi Co-relational, desain Ex-Post Facto. Ada dua instrument: test text tertulis, dan kuestioner. Hasil diambil dari perbandingan rata – rata mean antara sample dengan preferensi yang berbeda dan dianalisa melalui ANOVA. Signifikansi muncul di perbandingan mean lexical density;dengan preferensi film mempunyai rata – rata mean tertinggi diantara preferensi produk literatur lainnya. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa sampel dengan preferensi yang berbeda memiliki prestasi vocabulary yang berbeda dalam writing; dengan detail: perbedaan preferensi mempengaruhi prestasi vocabulary sampel dalam lexical density. The purpose of this research was to find if student with different literature preference has different vocabulary achievement in writing. In this research, what the researcher means by vocabulary achievement are word count, lexical density, and readability. The samples were students of English Study Program in Arts and Language Education Department in University of Lampung. This research was quantitative research; the researcher used Co-relational study, Ex-Post Facto design. There were two instruments: text writing test, and questionnaire. Result was received from mean average comparison between samples with difference preference and analyzed through ANOVA. Significance is showed in mean comparison of lexical density; with movie preference which has the highest average mean between other literature products preference. The researcher concluded that sample with difference preference has different vocabulary achievement in writing; with detail: the different preference affected sample's vocabulary achievement in lexical density

    The Use of Talking Chips Technique to Improve Students\u27 Speaking Ability

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajarkan dengan teknik Talking Chips. Pelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dilaksanakan pada kelas XI ISOS 3 berjumlah 32 siswa. Peneliti menggunakan tes berbicara dalam pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik Talking Chips. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari peningkatan nilai rata-rata siswa dari pretest ke postes yaitu 60 ke 73.3. Selain itu aspek berbicara yang paling meningkat menggunakan teknik ini adalah pemahaman. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil setiap aspek berbicara dimana pemahaman meningkat paling besar yaitu dari 12.6 menjadi 15.8. Oleh karena itu, teknik Talking Chips baik digunakan untuk mengajarkan berbicara terlebih untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman siswa.This research was aimed at finding out whether there was a significant improvement in students\u27 speaking ability after being taught through Talking Chips Technique. This research used quantitative approach and was conducted to 32 students in class XI ISOS 3. The researcher administered speaking test to collect the data. The result showed that there was an improvement in students\u27 speaking ability after being taught through Talking Chips Technique. It could be seen from the increase of students\u27 mean score from pre-test to posttest, 60 to 73.3. Besides, the most improvement of each speaking aspect was comprehension. This could be seen from the result of each aspect which showed that the highest improvement was comprehension from 12.6 to 15.8. The T-test revealed those result were significant because p < 0.05, p = .000. Thus, Talking Chips Technique is one of the appropriate techniques to improve students\u27 speaking ability
