Charge asymmetry in high-energy photoproduction in the electric field of a heavy atom
The charge asymmetry in the differential cross section of high-energy
photoproduction in the electric field of a heavy atom is obtained.
This asymmetry arises due to the Coulomb corrections to the amplitude of the
process (next-to-leading term with respect to the atomic field). The deviation
of the nuclear electric field from the Coulomb field at small distances is
crucially important for the charge asymmetry. Though the Coulomb corrections to
the total cross section are negligibly small, the charge asymmetry is
measurable for selected final states of and . We further discuss

Statistical evaluation of the function of the 1992 International Continence Society scientific committee
Papers submitted to the International Confidence Society arc read by the six members of the scientific committee, who assign three scores to each paper, one for its originality, one for its scientific value, and one for its academic or clinical interest. Following discussion at the scientific committee meeting, a program is made from the abstracts with the highest scores. In this study statistical properties of the assigned score values for the 1992 ICS meeting are discussed It is concluded that the three scores do not measure independent properties of the abstracts, that different abstract types (for instance “clinical” and “basic” papers) are scored differently by the different committee members, that there is a significant consensus among the committee members, that the scientific committee meeting has a relatively small effect on the scores, and that different abstract types are not equally represented in the final program
A Critical Appraisal of National and International Clinical Practice Guidelines Reporting Nutritional Recommendations for Age-Related Macular Degeneration: Are Recommendations Evidence-Based?
Eye care professionals should have access to high quality clinical practice guidelines that ideally are underpinned by evidence from robust systematic reviews of relevant research. The aim of this study was to identify clinical guidelines with recommendations pertaining to dietary modification and/or nutritional supplementation for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and to evaluate the overall quality of the guidelines using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) instrument. We also mapped recommendations to existing systematic review evidence. A comprehensive search was undertaken using bibliographic databases and other electronic resources for eligible guidelines. Quality appraisal was undertaken to generate scores for each of the six AGREE II domains, and mapping of extracted nutritional recommendations was performed for systematic reviews published up to March 2017. We identified 13 national and international guidelines, developed or updated between 2004 and 2019. These varied substantially in quality. The lowest scoring AGREE II domains were for 'Rigour of Development', 'Applicability' (which measures implementation strategies to improve uptake of recommendations), and 'Editorial Independence'. Only four guidelines used evidence from systematic reviews to support their nutritional recommendations. In conclusion, there is significant scope for improving current Clinical Practice Guidelines for AMD, and guideline developers should use evidence from existing high quality systematic reviews to inform clinical recommendations
Effect of spark plasma sintering on the structure and properties of Ti1-xZrxNiSn half-heusler alloys
XNiSn (X = Ti, Zr and Hf) half-Heusler alloys have promising thermoelectric properties and are attracting enormous interest for use in waste heat recovery. In particular, multiphase behaviour has been linked to reduced lattice thermal conductivities, which enables improved energy conversion efficiencies. This manuscript describes the impact of spark plasma sintering (SPS) on the phase distributions and thermoelectric properties of Ti0.5Zr0.5NiSn based half-Heuslers. Rietveld analysis reveals small changes in composition, while measurement of the Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivities reveals that all SPS treated samples are electron doped compared to the as-prepared samples. The lattice thermal conductivities fall between 4 W·m−1·K−1 at 350 K and 3 W·m−1·K−1 at 740 K. A maximum ZT = 0.7 at 740 K is observed in a sample with nominal Ti0.5Zr0.5NiSn composition
High-resolution computed tomography reconstructions of invertebrate burrow systems
The architecture of biogenic structures can be highly influential in determining species contributions to major soil and sediment processes, but detailed 3-D characterisations are rare and descriptors of form and complexity are lacking. Here we provide replicate high-resolution micro-focus computed tomography (μ-CT) data for the complete burrow systems of three co-occurring, but functionally contrasting, sediment-dwelling inter-tidal invertebrates assembled alone, and in combination, in representative model aquaria. These data (≤2,000 raw image slices aquarium−1, isotropic voxel resolution, 81 μm) provide reference models that can be used for the development of novel structural analysis routines that will be of value within the fields of ecology, pedology, geomorphology, palaeobiology, ichnology and mechanical engineering. We also envisage opportunity for those investigating transport networks, vascular systems, plant rooting systems, neuron connectivity patterns, or those developing image analysis or statistics related to pattern or shape recognition. The dataset will allow investigators to develop or test novel methodology and ideas without the need to generate a complete three-dimensional computation of exemplar architecture
Scaling Digital Humanities on (and utilising) the Web
The work of a humanities e-researcher is scoped by the possibilities offered in digital artefacts: in their ever increasing number and their distribution and access over the Internet. This is recognised through a shift to an increasingly data-intensive method characterised as the "fourth paradigm" of e-Research and enabled by the new computational tools and techniques that characterise e-Science and e-Research. To realise these systems we propose an approach built upon the defining properties of the Web: adopting the REST style and Linked Data principles to enable the radical publication, sharing, and linking of data for, and by, researchers. Within this Resource Oriented architecture we utilise distinct but interwoven models to represent services, data collections, workflows, and -- so to simplify the rapid development of integrated applications to explore specific findings -- the domain of the application. We illustrate this conceptual framework in a prototype system for enhancing the application of Music Information Retrieval workflows, driven by several related aims: to enable MIR researchers to utilise these datasets through incorporation in their research systems and workflows; to publish MIR research output on the Semantic Web linked to existing datasets; and to present MIR research output, with cross-referencing to other linked data sources, for manipulation and evaluation by MIR and musicology researchers and re-use within the wider Semantic Web and Digital Humanities communities. As an illustration of a specific domain-driven application with which to explore findings, we gather and publish metadata describing audio collections derived from the country of an artist. Genre analysis over these collections, and integration of this analysis with collection metadata enables us to ask: "how country is my country?"

The neuroregenerative effects of topical decorin on the injured mouse cornea
BACKGROUND: The cornea is innervated with a rich supply of sensory nerves that play important roles in ocular surface health. Any injury or pathology of the corneal nerves increases the risk of dry eye disease and infection. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic potential of topical decorin to improve corneal nerve regeneration in a mouse model of sterile epithelial abrasion injury. METHODS: Bilateral central corneal epithelial abrasions (2-mm, Alger Brush) were performed on young C57BL/6 J mice to remove the corneal sensory nerves. Decorin, or vehicle, was applied topically, three times per day for 1 week or every 2 h for 6 h. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography was performed to measure the abrasion area and corneal thickness. Wholemount immunofluorescence staining was used to assess sensory nerve regeneration (β-tubulin III) and immune cell density (CD45, Iba1, CD11c). To investigate the specific role of dendritic cells (DCs), Cx3cr1gfp/gfp mice, which spontaneously lack resident corneal epithelial DCs, were also investigated. The effect of prophylactic topical administration of recombinant human decorin (applied prior to the abrasion) was also investigated. Nerve tracing (NeuronJ software) was performed to compare recovery of basal nerve axons and superficial nerve terminals in the central and peripheral cornea. RESULTS: At 6 h after injury, topical decorin application was associated with greater intraepithelial DC recruitment but no change in re-epithelialisation or corneal thickness, compared to the vehicle control. One week after injury, sub-basal nerve plexus and superficial nerve terminal density were significantly higher in the central cornea in the decorin-treated eyes. The density of corneal stromal macrophages in the decorin-treated eyes and their contralateral eyes was significantly lower compared to saline-treated corneas. No significant improvement in corneal nerve regeneration was observed in Cx3cr1gfp/gfp mice treated with decorin. CONCLUSIONS: Decorin promotes corneal epithelial nerve regeneration after injury. The neuroregenerative effect of topical decorin was associated with a higher corneal DC density during the acute phase, and fewer macrophages at the study endpoint. The corneal neuroregenerative effects of decorin were absent in mice lacking intraepithelial DCs. Together, these findings support a role for decorin in DC-mediated neuroregeneration following corneal abrasion injury
