The structure includes a series of axially spaced apart rings and at least one outer perimeter housing member. The housing member interconnects the rings for defining an internal configuration of the hollow tubular structure for electrical purposes. The rings and the housing member each include inter-engageable elements for helping secure mechanically the rings and housing member together to facilitate final assembly of the electrical component

    A Career Development Model for Kindergarten through Sixth Grade

    There is not a unified program of career development for kindergarten through the sixth grade which would properly prepare the child for the task of making realistic career decisions. The purposes were: (1) to identify what content is now being taught in on-going career development programs for K-6; (2) to establish a sequential pattern for the curriculum content of a career development program for K-6; (3) to identify what content should be taught in career development programs for K-6 and objectives. To obtain information about career development programs for objectives one and two, 23 letters were written to state vocational centers, The National Vocational Guidance Association, and various persons responsible for initiating career development programs. Trade and professional literature and ERIC materials at the Tennessee Research Coordinating Unit were searched for information about career development programs. The third objective was obtained as a result of an analysis of objectives one and two. A career development model was designed. The career development model consists of two major parts, Phase I and Phase II. Phase I of the model is a program designed for kindergarten through the third grade. This phase is based upon developing an awareness of careers related closely to the environment of the child. It is primarily designed around those careers associated with the school, the family, and the local community. Phase II of the career development model is designed for grades 4-6 levels. This phase of the model is designed around occupational clusters. This part of the model is composed of activities and experiences designed to give the student a broad background in the galaxy of careers. The occupational clusters used in this phase of the model are as follows: Producing and Processing Occupations Cluster, Construction Occupations Cluster, Manufacturing Occupations Cluster, Marketing and Distribution Occupations Cluster, Transportation and Public Service Occupations Cluster, Recreation and Natural Resources Occupations Cluster, Human Service Occupations Cluster, Personnel Service Occupations Cluster and Media Occupations Cluster. The aim of this model is to provide the student with experiences upon which he can select a general occupational area for further exploration

    Regulation of human Polλ by ATM-mediated phosphorylation during Non-Homologous End Joining

    DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) trigger a variety of cellular signaling processes, collectively termed the DNA-damage response (DDR), that are primarily regulated by protein kinase ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM). Among DDR activated processes, the repair of DSBs by non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) is essential. The proper coordination of NHEJ factors is mainly achieved through phosphorylation by an ATM-related kinase, the DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs), although the molecular basis for this regulation has yet to be fully elucidated. In this study we identify the major NHEJ DNA polymerase, DNA polymerase lambda (Polλ), as a target for both ATM and DNA-PKcs in human cells. We show that Polλ is efficiently phosphorylated by DNA-PKcs in vitro and predominantly by ATM after DSB induction with ionizing radiation (IR) in vivo. We identify threonine 204 (T204) as a main target for ATM/DNA-PKcs phosphorylation on human Polλ, and establish that its phosphorylation may facilitate the repair of a subset of IR-induced DSBs and the efficient Polλ-mediated gap-filling during NHEJ. Molecular evidence suggests that Polλ phosphorylation might favor Polλ interaction with the DNA-PK complex at DSBs. Altogether, our work provides the first demonstration of how Polλ is regulated by phosphorylation to connect with the NHEJ core machinery during DSB repair in human cells.España MINECO y la Comisión Europea (European Regional Development Fund) to J.F.R.     Novel flame retardant thermoset resin blends derived from a free-radically cured vinylbenzylated phenolic novolac and an unsaturated polyester for marine composites

    A phenolic novolac resin has been chemically reacted with 4-vinylbenzyl chloride to introduce polymerizable vinyl benzyl groups. The modified novolac spontaneously polymerizes like styrene, is physically and chemically compatible with a typical unsaturated polyester (UP) resin, and can be free-radically cured (crosslinked) alone and in mixtures with UP using styrene as a reactive diluent. The cured vinylbenzylated novolac and co-cured blends of it with UP show superior flame retardance to cured UP alone and have potential applications as matrix resins in glass-reinforced composite laminates especially for marine structures

    The Lyman-{\alpha} Sky Background as Observed by New Horizons

    Recent observations of interplanetary medium (IPM) atomic hydrogen Lyman-{\alpha} (Ly{\alpha}) emission in the outer solar system, made with the Alice ultraviolet spectrograph on New Horizons (NH), are presented. The observations include regularly spaced great-circle scans of the sky and pointed observations near the downstream and upstream flow directions of interstellar H atoms. The NH Alice data agree very well with the much earlier Voyager UVS results, after these are reduced by a factor of 2.4 in brightness, in accordance with recent re-analyses. In particular, the falloff of IPM Ly{\alpha} brightness in the upstream-looking direction as a function of spacecraft distance from the Sun is well-matched by an expected 1/r dependence, but with an added constant brightness of ~40 Rayleighs. This additional brightness is a possible signature of the hydrogen wall at the heliopause or of a more distant background.
