Evaluation of four artificial lighting simulation tools with virtual building reference
There are number of software environments available to conduct lighting simulation to support researchers and designers. This paper compares and analyses performance of four lighting simulation programs, they are, AGI32, DIALux, RADIANCE and RELux. Along with the evaluation of modelling ability and output features, two significant aspects of lighting calculation focussed in this study are accuracy in calculating illumination level and luminaire number for interior spaces. Illumination level calculation is validated by Commission International de Eclairage (CIE) recommended methodology known as CIE test cases. Another virtual space is used to evaluate luminaire number calculation capability. Modelling and simulation were conducted by all four packages. Validation was done by comparing simulation results with analytical and manual method calculation
The Kozai-Lidov Mechanism in Hydrodynamical Disks
We use three dimensional hydrodynamical simulations to show that a highly
misaligned accretion disk around one component of a binary system can exhibit
global Kozai-Lidov cycles, where the inclination and eccentricity of the disk
are interchanged periodically. This has important implications for accreting
systems on all scales, for example, the formation of planets and satellites in
circumstellar and circumplanetary disks, outbursts in X-ray binary systems and
accretion on to supermassive black holes.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ Letter
Applying black hole perturbation theory to numerically generated spacetimes
Nonspherical perturbation theory has been necessary to understand the meaning
of radiation in spacetimes generated through fully nonlinear numerical
relativity. Recently, perturbation techniques have been found to be successful
for the time evolution of initial data found by nonlinear methods. Anticipating
that such an approach will prove useful in a variety of problems, we give here
both the practical steps, and a discussion of the underlying theory, for taking
numerically generated data on an initial hypersurface as initial value data and
extracting data that can be considered to be nonspherical perturbations.Comment: 14 pages, revtex3.0, 5 figure
No bursts detected from FRB121102 in two 5-hour observing campaigns with the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope
Here, we report non-detection of radio bursts from Fast Radio Burst FRB
121102 during two 5-hour observation sessions on the Robert C. Byrd 100-m Green
Bank Telescope in West Virginia, USA, on December 11, 2017, and January 12,
2018. In addition, we report non-detection during an abutting 10-hour
observation with the Kunming 40-m telescope in China, which commenced UTC 10:00
January 12, 2018. These are among the longest published contiguous observations
of FRB 121102, and support the notion that FRB 121102 bursts are episodic.
These observations were part of a simultaneous optical and radio monitoring
campaign with the the Caltech HIgh- speed Multi-color CamERA (CHIMERA)
instrument on the Hale 5.1-m telescope.Comment: 1 table, Submitted to RN of AA
