Tracer-Study: Identifikasi Masalah/Kendala Guru Bahasa Inggris SMA Dan SMK Kabupaten Kuala Kapuas Dalam Menulis Dan Mengimplementasikan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas
This study investigates the internal and external problems facing by the English Teachers of Senior High School in Kuala Kapuas Regency to conduct Classroom Action Research (CAR). The data were gained through personal interview and Forum Group Discussion. The results of the study have revealed that the internal problems were unsufficient knowledge of CAR, low skill in composing scientific writing, teacherâs negative mind-set, and low control of self management. The external problems were unclear administrative stuffs, unfair chances to join the training and getting insignificant benefits of participating in a training, no information where to publish the result of CAR, and unsufficient facilities. To conclude, the respondentsâ problems were mainly in unsufficient knowledge of CAR, low skill in composing a scientific writing, low control of self management, no strandard guideline for conducting and develoving CAR from the Regency Education Department, no training or guiding program about CAR, and no stimulus to conducting CAR
The Effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on Studentsâ Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text
There are difficulties faced by students in learning reading of the narrative text, such as difficulties to find details, translating new words, finding main ideas, and making inferences. This research was conducted to see the effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students reading comprehension of narrative text by applying âpreviewâ for brainstorming, âclick and clunkâ for translating new words, âget the gistâ for finding details, and main ideas, and âwrap upâ for making inferences. It is a quasi-experimental research with experimental and control groups. The sample was the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Palangka Raya. XI MIPA 3 and XI MIPA 2 classes were the experimental and control groups, and each consists of 37 students. Reading comprehension tests were used to collect the data. Since the data were normally distributed, the hypotheses were tested by using the independent sample t-test. The hypothesis testing results show that the obtained sig (2-tailed) was 0.027 and smaller than the probability value of sig. 0.05 (Sig. 0.027 < Sig. 0.05). Therefore, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. In other words, CSR significantly affects studentsâ reading comprehension of narrative text
Developing Example of Narrative Texts in Local Content Theme for Senior High School
Education is one of the basic needs of society and the state in improving the quality of society. Teaching learning material with local content can help student to improve knowledge about local wisdom. But, there are no local content about Palangka Raya contained in teaching learning material used.This research used ADDIE Model as its research method. The data for this research were obtained from expert, English teacher grade X and studentsâ SMA Negeri 5 Palangka Raya. By using research and development with ADDIE model, the researcher develop a teaching material with local content that concentrate writing skill of the examplary of narrative texts according to the syllabus from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. The product from this study are helped the teacher to provide good narrative text with local content of Palangka Raya.The results of this study showed that a good teaching learning material has fulfilled through validation results at an average of 98% by teacher and 97,5% (very valid) by expert. It supported by assessment results at an average 10 by teacher and 10 (A) by expert. Then, the effectiveness based on the results of first trial task at an average 80,56 (Good) and the second trial task get avarage 83,27 (Good). Also, the products received the responses from students in the first meeting with avarge of 84% (Valid) and the second meeting 82% (Valid). From these result, the examplary narrative text can be use and effective to be teaching learning material
Developing Exemplary Descriptive Texts in Local Content
Developing teaching material in local content becomes essential in teaching English for senior high school students. The students will learn not only about the language but also about how they use it in real life. They need to experience how to talk or describe their local context where they belong to in English. English teachers especially in Palangka Raya municipality have a problem in finding texts in local content in teaching writing. In English Textbook released by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia, revised edition 2017 for senior high school for first year, there are 18 texts in total, only one text talks about Central Kalimantan. Even in the internet, English teachers are also hard to find example of good texts in local contents as well as the standardized one. In order to develop standardized English texts for teaching descriptive text in local content topic for tenth grade students of Senior High School, this research used Research and Development using ADDIE model. The result of this research showed that both validators agreed the developed texts were fulfilled the criteria of the good text for teaching descriptive text. This result was also supported by the result of trial task which achieved good score in average and the positive responds and comments from the questionnaire
