    THE USE OF WEB-BASED EXAM (WBE) TO OPTIMIZE STUDENTS’ TESTING RESULT

    This research was conducted based on theproblems found during the mid and final test by using paper and pen test; those are the students tend to do cheating, the sleepy supervisors, the inconsistency of test time, and the risk of losing the answer sheet. Therefore, the goals of the research are; 1) to make an appropriate WBE testing system, 2) to know the cheating rate of the students, 3) to find out the effectiveness of the system, and 4) to inform the benefits that might be taken by the WBE testing system’s users. By applyingRnD research model, the researcher applies a concept called web-based exam system which uses three main tools to run the system (teacher’s laptop as the server, WBE software, and access point to communicate the server and the user). The results indicated that the system reduces the students’ cheating rate 100%. Then, from the questionnaire given, the teacherstend to likeusing WBE testing system because they can monitor the whole process of the test from his own laptop and the result of the test will be analyzed and be saved automatically in his laptop.     Pelatihan Komputer MS Office Bagi Remaja Anggota Karang Taruna di Desa Polowangi Kecamatan Pituruh Kabupaten Purworejo

    Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu  remaja karang taruna untuk mengembangkan skill dalam mengoprasikan komputer. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut metode pengembagan skill adalah dengan melalui pelatihan.  Sasaran Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini adalah para remaja karang taruna di Desa Polowangi Kecamatan Pituruh Kabupaten Purworejo dengan jumlah populasi adalah 40 orang. Permasalahan diselesaikan dalam tiga (3) tahapan kegiatan, yakni persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Pada tahap persiapan yang dilakukan adalah menganalisa masalah dan kebutuhan remaja karang taruna untuk mengoperasikan MS Office yang meliputi Word, Excel, dan Power Point.. Tahap kedua yaitu pelaksanaan terbagi menjadi beberapa sesi yaitu pembukaan, penyampaian teori dasar mengenai ketiga software tersebut.   Tahap ketiga yakni evaluasi dengan meminta umpan balik peserta melalui kuesioner tentang pemahaman materi.  Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dapat diuraikan sebagai berikut: Berdasarkan hasil umpan balik dari peserta, didapatkan informasi bahwa kegiatan ini sangat relevan untuk meningkatkan skill para remaja karang taruna mengenai pengoperasian MS Office dan para peserta merasa mendapatkan wawasan yang lebih luas tentang MS Offic

    Students’ Perception of Online Assessment and Its Influence on Their Learning Achievement

    This research aimed at knowing the students’ perception on online assessment of English subject during Covid-19 pandemic and the influence of online assesment on learning achievment of the students at grade X Mechanical Engineering at SMK N 2 Kebumen. This research uses mixed method. The population of this study is 108 students, and the researcher used purposive sampling to select 72 students as the sample.Research data obtained with the interview, questionnaire and documentation. The result of the mean score of students’ perception of online assessment in tenth grade students of SMK N 2 Kebumen was 74.53 which is categorized as “good”, whereas the mean score of students’ English achievement was 81.81 which is categorized as “excellent. Based on the calculation the value of r is lower than r table (0.059) < (0.235). It means that the students’ perception of online assessment does not influence on students’ achievement of English subject during Covid-19 pandemic in X grade students of SMK N 2 Kebumen. The coefficient determination R2 is 0.000. It implied that students’ perception does not contribute  to the students’ English achievement (0%)

    ONLINE LEARNING PERCEPTION DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC VIEWED FROM HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

    The purpose of this study was to investigate SMA and SMK students' perceptions of online learning. Secondly, to examine whether the two schools differ greatly and to describe their perception of online learning based on their perceptions. There were 133 participants, comprising 61 SMA students and 72 SMK students. The data was collected using Likert scale questionnaires and an interview. To analyze the data, the authors carried out descriptive and inferential analyzes of the quantitative data, while a qualitative thematic analysis was used. The finding of the study shows that there was a significant difference in the perception of online learning between SMA and SMK students. The high perception was obtained from SMA students, while medium perception was showed by SMK students. Based on the thematic analysis, it showed that SMK students encountered more difficulties in attending online learning classes compared with SMA students

    The Correlation between Students' Habit in Watching Western-Movie and Listening Skill

    This research attempts to analyze whether or not there is a positive and significant correlation between students’ habit in watching Western-movie and listening skill. The population of this research is the sixth semester students of English Language Education of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, with the total number of sample 31 students. This research uses quantitative correlation design. The instruments used are questionnaire and listening test. Based on the computation manually and using SPSS 25.0, the coefficient correlation score is 0.845, and after being compared with r table with degree of significance 5% (0.355), it can be inferred that   is higher than () that is 0.845 > 0.355. Based on the interpretation table proposed by Sugiyono, that score belongs to the very high correlation.   &nbsp

    Reading Aloud and Small Group Discussion: A Comparative Study of Reading Strategies

    One of the fundamental problems in teaching is closely related to teaching strategy. This basic problem comes to almost all subjects in senior high school included English in which more to teaching reading than other language skill. This fundamental problem then leads the researchers to do research which goal is to find out whether reading aloud or small group discussion more effective in teaching reading for senior high school. By applying causal-comparative research, the researchers did research in SMAN 7 Purworejo. Employing Class XI MIPA 5 taught using reading aloud strategy and Class XI MIPA 6 taught using small group discussion, the researchers then give 25 questions of a multiple-choice test to evaluate the result of teaching reading. The result of this research shows that the mean score of XI MIPA 5 is 88.97 and the mean of XI MIPA 6 is 89.14 which means that both of the classes have similar competencies in reading. Then, from the computation of inferential analysis, it shows that the result of Zvalue (1.503) is lower than Ztable (1.96). From the result, it can be concluded that both of the strategies have equal power to be used in teaching reading

    Students’ Perception on Using Blended Learning Method During Covid-19 Pandemic in Public Listening Subject

    This research aims to know how the students’ perception of blended learning toward Public Listening subject during Covid-19 pandemic. The researchers collected the data through a   questionnaires. There were 38 students from the 4th semester of English Language Education participated in this research. This research used descriptive qualitative research. From the data analisis, it is found that the students gave positive perceptions in following Public Listening subject by using Blended Learning method. From the computation, the highest average was 4.37 and the lowest average was 2.68. Moreover, there were 18 of 38 students felt excited during learning process. Furthermore, the students agreed with Blended Learning Method (combining online and offline) in Public Listening subject because it can improve their communication better than using offline or online method only with the procentage of satisfaction level 44.5% in which belongs to medium level. This study also found that the Blended Learning method benefited them and piqued their interest in learning. It also encourages student to be more active and responsible

    E-Learning Usage Analysis in English Language in Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo

    This research belongs to qualitative research. The objectives of this research are to explain E-learning usage and to determine of the students’ responses E-learning Usage in English Language Education of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo. The unit of analysis of this research is E-learning usage at the students of English Language Education. The subject of this research were the English education students of batch 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo. There are 43 students which are volunteering in answering the questionnaire. The result of the analysis shows that E-learning is easy to use (51,1%), E-learning perceives usefulness (37,2%), E-learning makes their communication and interaction easier and comfortable (48%), and students feel satisfy with E-learning (37,4%). That mean the result of the questionnaire most of them feeling easy and comfortable using E-learning method and the result of this research shows that E-learning is useful and helpful for the students and they felt satisfied with E-learning

    Online Learning Review of English Language Teaching in SMK N 8 Purworejo

    This research aims to find out students’ perception on online learning of English subject during Covid-19 pandemic at SMK N 8 Purworejo. The researchers collected the data through a questionnaire and interviews. There were 72 students of 12th grade at SMK N 8 Purworejo participated in this research. This research used mixed method approach combined qualitative and quantitative approaches. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze data from questionnaire and thematic analysis was used to analyze data from interview.  The result of this research shows that 12th grade students of SMK N 8 Purworejo have “medium” perception toward the implementation of online learning during Covid-19 pandemic. The mean score of the questionnaire was 3.21 that lays on the range between 2.60 – 3.39 which can be interpreted in the “Medium” category. Besides, there were several difficulties faced by students and teachers. This difficulties, such as the bad signal or internet connection, the lack of variation on online learning methods and media platform in online learning, and the lack of interaction that occurs during online learning between students and teachers, and students with students. These difficulties make online learning becomes less effective

    Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat di SMAN 4 Purworejo adalah untuk membantu dan mendampingi para siswa kelas 12 mengatasi permasalahan menjelang diselenggarakannya Ujian Nasional Berbasis Komputer (UNBK) yaitu stres yang tinggi, tingkat kejenuhan juga tinggi, serta mood belajar yang cenderung rendah sehingga mereka memerlukan suatu sistem pembelajaran yang menyenangkan sekaligus meningkatkan kesiapan menghadapi Ujian Nasional khususnya Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Solusi dari Tim Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Prodi PBI UMPurworejo adalah dengan sistem pembelajaran di luar kelas (Outdoor Learning System) yang dikemas dalam bentuk permainan ala outbound yang terdapat 4 (empat) pos yaitu vocabulary corner, reading power, listening, dan grammar knowledge. Setelah pelaksanaan pengabdian, poin penting yang bisa diperoleh yaitu tingkat stress cenderung turun, tingkat kebahagiaan siswa naik, mood siswa cenderung naik, serta tingkat pengetahuan Bahasa Inggris para siswa dilihat dari rata-ratanya juga naik dari 72 ke 84 sehingga penggunaan Outdoor Learning System ini cukup efektif
