Association between interleukin 6 -174 G/C promoter gene polymorphism and runners' responses to the dietary ingestion of antioxidant supplementation based on pequi (Caryocar brasiliense Camb.) oil : a before-after study

Exercise is a double-edged sword: when practiced in moderation, it increases the expression of antioxidant enzymes, but when practiced strenuously it causes oxidative stress and cell damage. In this context, polymorphisms in the interleukin (IL)-6 gene should be investigated better because they can influence performance, at least in exercise that generates oxidative stress and leads to muscular injuries with consequent inflammation. In this work, we investigated the influence of IL-6 –174 G/C polymorphism on tissue damage and inflammation markers, lipid peroxidation, hemogram and lipid profile of runners before and after ingestion of 400 mg of pequi oil in capsules supplied daily for 14 consecutive days. The IL-6 genotypes were associated with significant differences in lipid peroxidation, with the CC mutant having lower values. There were also significant differences among these genotypes in the response to supplementation with pequi oil, exercise-induced damage and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. The best protection against damage was observed with the heterozygous genotype. Although the CC genotype showed an increase in CRP levels after supplementation, the lack of a positive correlation between triglycerides and high-sensitivity CRP in this mutant genotype after supplementation indicated a protective effect of pequi. These findings deserve further investigation, particularly with regard to the quantification of circulating IL-6 concentrations

The mitochondrial elongation factor LeEF-Tsmt is regulated during tomato fruit ripening and upon wounding and ethylene treatment

A gene encoding an elongation factor LeEF-Tsmt that participates in the protein synthesis process in mitochondria shows strong expression in ripening fruit as compared to other organs. It is strongly up-regulated during the first stages of the ripening process in parallel with the climacteric rise in respiration. LeEF-Tsmt expression is stimulated by ethylene, wounding and high temperature but ethylene-insensitive mutants exhibit normal expression. Transgenic fruit have been generated in which LeEF-Tsmt has been constitutively up- and down-regulated. Surprisingly, altering the expression of the gene by genetic transformation with antisense and sense LeEF-Tsmt constructs did not affect the pattern of respiration and ethylene production during ripening and upon wounding. In addition, expression of the alternative oxidase gene which is known to play an important role in respiratory climacteric was not affected. Possible reasons for the absence of effect on respiration of variations of LeEF-Tsmt gene expression are discussed

Designing applications for it is a challenging task, partially because of its intrinsic complex context and the lack of theoretical and methodological referential to support design activities. In this paper, we argue for a Socially Aware Computing approach to the design of iDTV applications, articulating artifacts and methods from Organizational Semiotics and Participatory Design. A case study on requirements for the design of an iDTV application is situated in the practical context of a Brazilian broadcasting TV Company. The results show benefits of using informed artifacts and methods in participatory and situated practices, indicating that it is possible and viable to make socially aware design in industrial settings

Análisis comparativo del pavimento prolongación Av. Grau cruce Av. Raúl Mata - Jardines Celestiales - 26 de octubre, Piura

El presente trabajo de investigación está ubicado en la prolongación Av. Grau desde el cruce Av. Raúl Mata la Cruz hasta el Cementerio Jardines Celestiales perteneciendo al distrito 26 de octubre, provincia de Piura, departamento de Piura; se utilizó el tipo de investigación aplicada y nivel de investigación descriptiva, precisando como objetivo principal hacer una comparación entre las metodologías PCI y VIZIR para determinar la condición del pavimento. Se recopilaron datos teniendo en consideración las proyecciones y volúmenes de tránsito de la zona, la muestra escogida fue el pavimento prolongación Av. Grau cruce Raúl Mata - Jardines Celestiales - 26 de octubre, Piura; que tiene una longitud de 2.88 km. En los resultados se ha logrado identificar el tipo de fallas y el nivel de severidad de dicho pavimento. De igual manera, se diseñó la estructura del pavimento rígido en la prolongación Av. Grau cruce Raúl Mata - Jardines Celestiales - 26 de octubre. Finalmente se concluyó que con el método PCI se obtuvo un índice de condición de pavimento de 40.40 clasificándolo como pavimento REGULAR, también se determinaron las fallas más predominantes que presenta la infraestructura vial fueron la de tipo 6 - depresión y la de tipo 10 - grietas longitudinales y transversales, el nivel de severidad fue principalmente MEDIA. De igual forma con el método VIZIR se obtuvo una clasificación de condición de 631.972 clasificándolo como pavimento REGULAR (conservación periódica). Con relación al diseño se realizó como propuesta de mejoramiento con lo cual se determinó el espesor de la losa de concreto, base y subrasante que son de 18 cm, 15 cm y 30 cm respectivamenteThe present research work is located in the extension of Grau Avenue from the intersection of Raúl Mata la Cruz Avenue to the Jardines Celestiales Cemetery, belonging to the 26 de octubre district, province of Piura, department of Piura; the type of applied research and descriptive research level were used, specifying as main objective to make a comparison between the PCI and VIZIR methodologies to determine the condition of the pavement. Data were collected taking into consideration the projections and traffic volumes in the area, the sample chosen was the pavement of the Grau Avenue extension, Raul Mata - Jardines Celestiales - 26 de octubre, Piura; which has a length of 2.88 km. In the results, the type of failures and the severity level of the pavement were identified. Likewise, the structure of the rigid pavement in the extension of Grau Avenue crossing Raúl Mata - Jardines Celestiales - 26 de octubre was designed. Finally, it was concluded that with the PCI method a pavement condition index of 40.40 was obtained, classifying it as REGULAR pavement. The most predominant faults in the road infrastructure were also determined to be type 6 - depression and type 10 - longitudinal and transversal cracks, the severity level was mainly MEDIUM. Los pacientes sometidos a cirugía abdominal mayor en el Hospital Regional de Chimbote serán los sujetos de un estudio que se realizará utilizando un diseño analítico, longitudinal, de casos y controles. El propósito de este estudio es determinar si una elevada relación neutrófilos-linfocitos es o no un factor pronóstico de infección del sitio quirúrgico. Los pacientes que conformarán la población de investigación son aquellos que han sido sometidos a cirugía abdominal mayor y han sido atendidos por el Servicio de Cirugía General del Hospital Regional de Chimbote durante los meses de enero 2023 y diciembre 2023. La participación en la investigación se concederá a los hospitalizados que satisfagan los puntos de selección que se exponen a continuación. En cuanto al examen de las variables cualitativas, se utilizará la prueba de Chi-cuadrado (X2) en todo el análisis estadístico que se llevará a cabo. Cuando se calcule que la probabilidad de error es inferior al 5% (p < 0,05), las asociaciones se considerarán 1estadísticamente significativas. Motivos determinantes para la aplicación de la resolución en el contrato de compraventa de bien ajeno

La presente investigación tiene como problemática establecer cuáles son los motivos determinantes para la aplicación de la Resolución de Contrato en la Compraventa de Bien Ajeno en lugar de la Resolución Contractual y/o la categoría jurídica de la Nulidad del Acto Jurídico, conforme vienen resolviendo los jueces de la Corte Suprema de la República. Se empleó el método científico para la recopilación y análisis documental, utilizando los métodos lógicos como el método analítico – sintético, el método inductivo – deductivo, método histórico y el método doctrinario. El resultado de la investigación, es que se ha determinado que los jueces de que integran la Corte Suprema de La República, no aplica en forma correcta la Resolución del Contrato de Compraventa, aplicando la figura de la Recisión Contractual y/o la Nulidad de Acto Jurídico. La propuesta de este trabajo es la modificatoria del artículo 1539 del Código Civil, ya que para dejar sin efecto un contrato de compraventa de bien ajeno se debe aplicar la Resolución Contractual y no la Recisión Contractual. A pesquisa é um estudo do principal operador logístico do e-commerce no Brasil, os Correios. Trata-se de organização pública tradicional, presente em todos os municípios do país com uma estrutura capaz de movimentar mercadorias e documentos como nenhuma outra empresa. Esse trabalho pretende avaliar a efetividade do processo logístico de entrega de encomendas dos Correios em Brasília, com o objetivo de verificar se a empresa cumpre com o nível de serviço prometido. Está avaliação se baseou em dados e informações qualitativas e quantitativas obtidas em pesquisa documental e entrevistas, além de acompanhamento de um dia de trabalho de um carteiro na entrega. Procurou apresentar resultados objetivos com base na chamada “voz do processo” interno, tais como: o percentual de entrega de encomendas no prazo, o percentual de encomendas que não se consegue entregar e que precisam ser devolvidas ao expedidor, identificando os motivos deste fato e ainda se existe risco de roubo ou extravio de encomendas e em que percentuais. Mas, além da voz do processo se procurou ouvir, também, a “voz do cliente” para verificar como ele avalia os serviços de distribuição dos Correios, qual é sua expectativa e qual é o seu nível de satisfação

Female urogenital reconstruction in a case of sexual development disorder (46, XY) with cloacal exstrophy associated with diphallia

Disorders (or differences) of Sex Development (DSD) comprise a state of genetic, gonadal and genital variation. Among the conditions associated with DSD is cloacal exstrophy, a rare congenital malformation part of the exstrophy-epispadias malformation complex. Thus, the case of a patient with rare involvement of DSD 46, XY cloacal exstrophy associated with diphallia who underwent surgical treatment for female urogenital reconstruction is reported. The patient's electronic medical record was reviewed after presenting and accepting the Informed Consent. Sociodemographic and clinical-epidemiological variables and pre- and postoperative data were analyzed. The patient was 20 years old, white and raised considering to be female. She was born with cloacal exstrophy, with severe morphological changes in the external genitalia, and submitted to terminal ileostomy, cystoplasty, and rudimentary large bowel colectomy during the neonatal period. At 13 years of age, the patient reported discomfort with the appearance of her external genitalia and the need for constant use of diapers due to urinary incontinence. The patient underwent reconstruction of the urinary and genital tracts during adolescence besides a genitoplasty followed by regular vaginal dilation. At age 17, she reported feeling satisfied with the surgical result, denied discomfort with the current aspect of her genitalia and mentioned identifying herself with the female and male genders, with increased adherence to typically female behaviors. A supposedly favorable outcome in the late adolescence of a DSD 46, XY cloacal exstrophy subject who underwent surgical adaptation for sexual definition after a multidisciplinary approach was reported. The patient revealed a non-binary gender identity, absence of gender dysphoria, satisfaction with her own body and androphilic sexual orientation
