Theoretical Uncertainties in Gamma_sl(b->u)
I review the existing theoretical uncertainties in relating the semileptonic
decay width in b->u transitions to the underlying Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing
element |V_ub|. The theoretical error bars are only a few percent in |V_ub|,
with uncertainties from the impact of the nonperturbative effects nearly
negligible.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX; discussion of 1/m_b^3 effects is expanded.

PARALLEL ALGORITHM FOR CALCULATING GENERAL EQUILIBRIUM IN MULTIREGION ECONOMIC GROWTH MODELS
We develop and analyze a parallel algorithm for computing a solution in a multiregion dynamic general equilibrium model. The algorithm is based on an iterative method of the Gauss–Seidel type and exploits a special block structure of the model. Calculation of prices and input-output ratios in production for different time steps is carried out in parallel. We implement the parallel algorithm using the OpenMP interface for systems with shared memory. The efficiency of the algorithm is studied with the numbers of cores varying in the full range from one to the number of time steps of the model
Precision Studies of Duality in the 't Hooft Model
We address numerical aspects of local quark-hadron duality using the example
of the exactly solvable 't Hooft model, two-dimensional QCD with N_c -->
infinity. The primary focus of these studies is total semileptonic decay widths
relevant for extracting |V_{cb}| and |V_{ub}|. We compare the exact
channel-by-channel sum of exclusive modes to the corresponding rates obtained
in the standard 1/m_Q expansion arising from the Operator Product Expansion. An
impressive agreement sets in unexpectedly early, immediately after the
threshold for the first hadronic excitation in the final state. Yet even at
higher energy release it is possible to discern the seeds of duality-violating
oscillations. We find the ``Small Velocity'' sum rules to be exceptionally well
saturated already by the first excited state. We also obtain a convincing
degree of duality in the differential distributions and in an analogue of
R_{e^+e^-}(s). Finally, we discuss possible lessons for semileptonic decays of
actual heavy quarks in QCD.Comment: 45 pages, 16 eps figures include
Non-Abelian Dipole Radiation and the Heavy Quark Expansion
Dipole radiation in QCD is derived to the second order in . A
power-like evolution of the spin-singlet heavy quark operators is obtained to
the same accuracy. In particular, relation between a
short-distance low-scale running heavy quark mass and the \barMS mass is
given. We discuss the properties of the effective QCD coupling \aw(E) which
governs the dipole radiation. This coupling is advantageous for heavy quark
physics.Comment: 12 pages, Late
Dynamic spin-fluctuation theory of metallic magnetism
This book presents a theoretical framework for magnetism in ferromagnetic metals and alloys at finite temperatures. The objective of the book is twofold. First, it gives a detailed presentation of the dynamic spin-fluctuation theory that takes into account both local and long-wave spin fluctuations with any frequency. The authors provide a detailed explanation of the fundamental role of quantum spin fluctuations in the mechanism of metallic magnetism and illustrate the theory with concrete examples. The second objective of the book is to give an accurate and self-contained presentation of many-body techniques such as the functional integral method and Green's functions, via a number of worked examples. These computational methods are of great use to solid state physicists working in a range of specialties. The book is intended primarily for researchers, but can also be used as textbook. The introductory chapters offer clear and complete derivations of the fundamentals, which makes the presentation self-contained. The main text is followed by a number of well-organized appendices that contain a detailed presentation of the necessary many-body techniques and computational methods. The book also includes a list of symbols and detailed index. This volume will be of interest to a wide range of physicists interested in magnetism and solid state physics in general, both theoreticians and experimentalists
Spin-Density Correlations and Short-Range Order in Metals above the Curie Temperature
In the dynamic spin-fluctuation theory, we calculate the effective and local magnetic moments and spatial spin-density correlator. Our theoretical results are demonstrated by the example of bcc Fe. The effective and local moments are found in good agrement with results of polarized neutron scattering experiment over a wide temperature range. The calculated short-range order is small (up to 5 Ă…) and slowly decreases with temperatur
