Reducing echocardiographic examination time through routine use of fully automated software : a comparative study of measurement and report creation time

Background Manual interpretation of echocardiographic data is time-consuming and operator-dependent. With the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), there is a growing interest in its potential to streamline echocardiographic interpretation and reduce variability. This study aimed to compare the time taken for measurements by AI to that by human experts after converting the acquired dynamic images into DICOM data. Methods Twenty-three consecutive patients were examined by a single operator, with varying image quality and different medical conditions. Echocardiographic parameters were independently evaluated by human expert using the manual method and the fully automated US2.ai software. The automated processes facilitated by the US2.ai software encompass real-time processing of 2D and Doppler data, measurement of clinically important variables (such as LV function and geometry), automated parameter assessment, and report generation with findings and comments aligned with guidelines. We assessed the duration required for echocardiographic measurements and report creation. Results The AI significantly reduced the measurement time compared to the manual method (159 ± 66 vs. 325 ± 94 s, p < 0.01). In the report creation step, AI was also significantly faster compared to the manual method (71 ± 39 vs. 429 ± 128 s, p < 0.01). The incorporation of AI into echocardiographic analysis led to a 70% reduction in measurement and report creation time compared to manual methods. In cases with fair or poor image quality, AI required more corrections and extended measurement time than in cases of good image quality. Report creation time was longer in cases with increased report complexity due to human confirmation of AI-generated findings. Conclusions This fully automated software has the potential to serve as an efficient tool for echocardiographic analysis, offering results that enhance clinical workflow by providing rapid, zero-click reports, thereby adding significant value

Impact of the semiconductor on hexagonal-BN structure for power-supply on chip applications

This paper evaluates the semiconductor on hexagonal-BN (h-BN) structure for power-supply on chip applications based on numerical simulations. Hexagonal-BN is used as an insulator of semiconductor -on-insulator (SOI) structure. Hexagonal-BN based SOI structure with through-silicon-via(TSV) shows higher heat dissipation performance without degrading electrical characteristics compared with the conventional SOI structure.2018 International Conference on Solid State Devices and Materials(SSDM2018), September9-13, 2018, Hongo Campus, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japa

Familial and sporadic chronic progressive degenerative parietal ataxia

    Get PDF
Background & objective: Parietal ataxia has been mainly reported as a consequence of acute ischemic stroke, while degenerative parietal ataxia has not been reported. Methods: We investigated clinical characteristics, neuroimaging data, and genetic analysis of patients with cerebellar ataxia plus parietal atrophy. Results: We identified seven patients, including five patients from two families, with chronic progressive cerebellar ataxia due to degenerative parietal atrophy but not stroke. Age at onset of ataxia was 57.6 +/- 6.9 years. All patients showed chronic progressive cerebellar ataxia with severity of ataxic gait > limb ataxia > dysarthria. Patients showed no cognitive dysfunction, muscle weakness, or parkinsonism, and only two patients showed mild sensory disturbances. The seven patients showed lateralized limb ataxia with greater contralateral parietal lobe atrophy by magnetic resonance imaging, and hypoperfusion by single photon emission computed tomography, without any abnormal cerebellar pathology (i.e., crossed cerebellar diaschisis). Pathogenic mutations in the microtubule-associated protein tau gene were not found using two single nucleotide polymorphisms. Conclusions: This is the first description showing unique clinical features of familial and sporadic chronic progressive degenerative parietal ataxia

Algal protein kinase, Triacylglycerol Accumulation Regulator 1, modulates cell viability and gametogenesis in carbon/nitrogen imbalanced conditions

Nutrient-deprived microalgae accumulate triacylglycerol (TAG) in lipid droplets. A dual-specificity tyrosine phosphorylation-regulated kinase, TAG accumulation regulator 1 (TAR1) has been shown to be required for acetate-dependent TAG accumulation and the degradation of chlorophyll and photosynthesis-related proteins in photomixotrophic nitrogen (N)-deficient conditions (Kajikawa et al. 2015). However, this previous report only examined particular condition. Here, we report that in photoautotrophic N-deficient conditions, tar1-1 cells, with a mutation in the TAR1 gene, maintained higher levels of cell viability and lower levels of hydrogen peroxide generation and accumulated higher levels of TAG and starch compared with those of wild-type (WT) cells with bubbling of air containing 5% carbon dioxide. Transcriptomic analyses suggested that genes involved in the scavenging of reactive oxygen species are not repressed in tar1-1 cells. In contrast, the mating efficiency and mRNA levels of key regulatory genes for gametogenesis, MID, MTD, and FUS, were suppressed in tar1-1 cells. Among the TAR1-dependent phosphopeptides deduced by phosphoproteomic analysis, protein kinases and enzymes related to N assimilation and carbon (C) metabolism are of particular interest. Characterization of these putative downstream factors may elucidate the molecular pathway whereby TAR1 mediates cellular propagation and C and N metabolism in C/N-imbalanced stress conditions

Indian Monsoonal Variations During the Past 80 Kyr Recorded in NGHP-02 Hole 19B, Western Bay of Bengal: Implications From Chemical and Mineral Properties

金沢大学理工研究域地球社会基盤学系Detailed reconstruction of Indian summer monsoons is necessary to better understand the late Quaternary climate history of the Bay of Bengal and Indian peninsula. We established a chronostratigraphy for a sediment core from Hole 19B in the western Bay of Bengal, extending to approximately 80 kyr BP and examined major and trace element compositions and clay mineral components of the sediments. Higher δ 18 O values, lower TiO 2 contents, and weaker weathering in the sediment source area during marine isotope stages (MIS) 2 and 4 compared to MIS 1, 3, and 5 are explained by increased Indian summer monsoonal precipitation and river discharge around the western Bay of Bengal. Clay mineral and chemical components indicate a felsic sediment source, suggesting the Precambrian gneissic complex of the eastern Indian peninsula as the dominant sediment source at this site since 80 kyr. Trace element ratios (Cr/Th, Th/Sc, Th/Co, La/Cr, and Eu/Eu*) indicate increased sediment contributions from mafic rocks during MIS 2 and 4. We interpret these results as reflecting the changing influences of the eastern and western branches of the Indian summer monsoon and a greater decrease in rainfall in the eastern and northeastern parts of the Indian peninsula than in the western part during MIS 2 and 4. © 2018.
