This study aims at exploring the factors affecting the musculoskeletal disorders of 400 members of the degumming and dyeing process of silk weaving profession in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The data was collected by using questionnaires applied from the Standardized Nordic questionnaire and the musculoskeletal disorders evaluation form developed by the Department of Disease Control. The data was analyzed in statistic descriptive and binary logistic regression. The results revealed that the silk weaving professionals had problems of muscle aches with the most affected areas being: right shoulder, left shoulder, lower back, right elbow, neck and left elbow. Factors affecting the musculoskeletal disorders found were: 1) the body mass index, 2) weighing down on one side of the body, 3) reaching above the shoulder to pick up or hold the material, 4) continuous bending down of their heads to work, and 5) repetitive raised neck or back during work

Target weavers are engaged in the preparation of silk thread preparation before the weaving phase. The data was collected by using questionnaires applied from the Standardized Nordic questionnaire and the musculoskeletal disorders evaluation developed by the Department of Disease Control. Descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression were used to analyze data. As results, the most prevalence of musculoskeletal problems among the samples were pain in the shoulder blade and lower back, accounting for 98.94 %, followed by aching in both hands or wrists which account for 98.68%; and left shoulder pain (97.35%). Factors affecting musculoskeletal disorders found were: 1) body mass index, 2) break time, 3) unchanged weaving posture that takes more than half of work time, 4) long-term excessive bending of neck and back, and 5) repetitive, prolonged arm and hand movements (at least 30 minutes)

    Cryogenic treatment of tool steels: A brief review and a case report

    Tool steels used in marine industries demand for the effective approach to enhance their properties. Normally, conventional heat treatment is widely used to increase the performance of tool steels. However, this method cannot fully enhance the tool steel performance. On the other hand, cryogenic treatment is a supplementary process to the conventional heat treatment, which can promote the conversion of retained austenite to martensite and accelerate the precipitation of fine carbides. In this paper, a systematic review of cryogenic treatment of tool steels was presented. A wide range of useful investigations was reviewed, particularly in the details of the transformation of retained austenite to martensite and the precipitation of the fine carbides. A case study on a tool steel subjected to conventional heat treatment, conventional cold treatment, and deep cryogenic treatment was also given and discussed to give an insight in the cryogenic treatment of tool steels.</jats:p
