Exploring Health Literacy in Medical University Students of Chongqing, China: A Cross-Sectional Study

    No full text
<div><p>Health literacy is important in public health and healthcare, particularly in effective communication between patients and health professionals. Although most medical students will eventually work as health professionals after graduation, research on health literacy of medical students is scarce. This study aimed to assess the health literacy level of medical students in Chongqing, China, and its influencing factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted and 1,275 participants (250 males and 1,022 females) who majored in five different disciplines were involved. The Health Literacy Questionnaire was used as the survey tool. The junior students obtained the highest scores, whereas the freshman students had the lowest scores on each scale. The average score of males was higher than that of females except in “feeling understood and supported by healthcare providers,” and the average score of students who reside in urban areas was higher than that of students in rural areas. Moreover, the average score of engineering students was higher than that of medical or health sciences students. Multiple linear regression models (Radj2 = 0.435, P = 0.000) showed that the grade, socioeconomic status, and parent’s highest level of education were positively correlated with health literacy. In conclusion, the health literacy levels of the medical students are insufficient and need improvement.</p></div

Understanding the Journey of Dopant Copper Ions in Atomically Flat Colloidal Nanocrystals of CdSe Nanoplatelets Using Partial Cation Exchange Reactions

Unique electronic and optical properties of doped semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) have widely stimulated a great deal of interest to explore new effective synthesis routes to achieve controlled doping for highly efficient materials. In this work, we show copper doping via postsynthesis partial cation exchange (CE) in atomically flat colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs). Here chemical reactivity of different dopant precursors, reaction kinetics, and shape of seed NPLs were extensively elaborated for successful doping and efficient emission. Dopant-induced Stokes-shifted and tunable photoluminescence emission (640 to 830 nm) was observed in these Cu-doped CdSe NPLs using different thicknesses and heterostructures. High quantum yields (reaching 63%) accompanied by high absorption cross sections (>2.5 times) were obtained in such NPLs compared to those of Cu-doped CdSe colloidal quantum dots (CQDs). Systematic tuning of the doping level in these two-dimensional NPLs provides an insightful understanding of the chemical dopant based orbital hybridization in NCs. The unique combination of doping via the partial CE method and precise control of quantum confinement in such atomically flat NPLs originating from their magic-sized vertical thickness exhibits an excellent model platform for studying photophysics of doped quantum confined systems

sp–d Exchange Interactions in Wave Function Engineered Colloidal CdSe/Mn:CdS Hetero-Nanoplatelets

In two-dimensional (2D) colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets, which are atomically flat nanocrystals, the precise control of thickness and composition on the atomic scale allows for the synthesis of heterostructures with well-defined electron and hole wave function distributions. Introducing transition metal dopants with a monolayer precision enables tailored magnetic exchange interactions between dopants and band states. Here, we use the absorption based technique of magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) to directly prove the exchange coupling of magnetic dopants with the band charge carriers in hetero-nanoplatelets with CdSe core and manganese-doped CdS shell (CdSe/Mn:CdS). We show that the strength of both the electron as well as the hole exchange interactions with the dopants can be tuned by varying the nanoplatelets architecture with monolayer accuracy. As MCD is highly sensitive for excitonic resonances, excited level spectroscopy allows us to resolve and identify, in combination with wave function calculations, several excited state transitions including spin–orbit split-off excitonic contributions. Thus, our study not only demonstrates the possibility to expand the extraordinary physical properties of colloidal nanoplatelets toward magneto-optical functionality by transition metal doping but also provides an insight into the excited state electronic structure in this novel two-dimensional material
