Local Elements
The mission of Local Elements is to create an eco-urban park to harbor Boise’s local movement and need for recreational community space. This project is an integrated park that includes a cultural and artistic marketplace, an outdoor amphitheater, greenhouses and multipurpose educational facilities. A key aspect of Local Elements is to create a socio-economic space that enables sustainable development, through both its design and function. This will be accomplished through a collaborative plan including: a new construction method made from completely recycled building materials, geothermal heating, xeriscaping, rainwater recycling and solar power. Local Elements will stimulate the economy and steer Boise toward a connected local community focus. Local Elements is a valuable development project for the City of Boise. People of all ages will enjoy this addition to downtown, as it will remain a prominent place of interaction and use for generations to come
A Cross-Clinic Collaboration: How an Amicus Brief Helped Create Judicial Recognition of Adultification Bias in Juvenile Sentencing
A Path Toward Race-Conscious Standards for Youth: Translating Adultification Bias Theory into Doctrinal Interventions in Criminal Court
This article demonstrates how advocates can leverage empirical literature regarding adultification bias to craft doctrinal interventions that recognize and remedy the disproportionately harsh treatment of Black youth in the juvenile and adult criminal legal system. Through case examples, all of which I litigated in the Civil Rights Clinic at Seattle University School of Law, I demonstrate how adultification bias was used to explain the racial disproportionality in the transfer of young people to adult court for prosecution, as well as the harshness of the sentences received by young people in both juvenile and adult court. These cases provide roadmaps for clinicians and advocates to educate criminal legal system stakeholders about the risk of adultification bias and other forms of implicit bias, either as amicus or in direct service to clients. The briefs proposed new legal standards in cases that require criminal legal system stakeholders to account for adultification bias. These litigation strategies are designed to obtain outcomes for clients that account for one way that race plays a role in prosecutorial and judicial decision-making, a problem which is clear in the aggregate but has historically evaded remedy in individual cases. These proposals also provide a concrete example of how law school clinics can put theory into practice and produce doctrinal interventions that advance racial justice
The Effect of the Secondary Coordination Sphere on the Stabilities of Cerium(III) and Cerium(IV) Coordination Complexes
The lanthanides, the elements from La–Lu, have intrinsic properties that make them desirable components in many technological applications as well as useful catalysts. However, lanthanides can form unpredictable solid state and solution structures due to their ionic, non-directional, and kinetically labile bonds with ligands, which hampers the development of structure-function relationships. To enhance the stability of the lanthanide bonds, the use of the secondary coordination sphere about lanthanide complexes, including alkali metal cations lithium, sodium, and potassium, as well as hydrogen bonding guanidinium cations, as a framework to guide lanthanide-ligand bonding interactions was studied. This work can be applied to lanthanide coordination and redox chemistries

Representations of Victims, Suspects and Offenders: A Content Analysis of Four Television Crime Shows
This study draws on Social Learning Theory and uses a content analysis to critically examine the representations of victims, suspects and offenders on fictional crime television shows. Specifically, four such shows were studied: Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Criminal Minds, Body of Proof and Rizzoli \u26 Isles. Although some previous research assessed the representations of suspects and offenders on fictional crime television series, examination of the representations of victims is rare, and to date, no study has included such an extensive list of variables. There were two units of analysis used while coding. Coding of the entire show included the year of the episode, number of victims, number of suspects, number of offenders, type of crime and time of the crime. The second unit of analysis included individual victims, suspects and offenders. An extensive range of demographic data was recorded for each victim, suspect and offender. The results from this study indicate that a very narrow lens is used in television fictional crime show portrayals of victims, suspects and offenders. The findings include a relationship between the type of crime and the television show, the victims’ gender and survival rate, the victims’ race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status, the victims’ hair color and whether they were drugged, and the victims’ survival and whether they had children with the defendant. There were also significant relationships between the suspects’ gender and the crime show, the suspects’ race/ethnicity and gender, perpetrators’ race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status, and the perpetrators’ gender and survival rate
Compartmentalization of distinct cAMP signaling pathways in mammalian sperm.
Fertilization competence is acquired in the female tract in a process known as capacitation. Capacitation is needed for the activation of motility (e.g. hyperactivation) and to prepare the sperm for an exocytotic process known as acrosome reaction. While the HCO3--dependent soluble adenylyl cyclase Adcy10 plays a role in motility, less is known about the source of cAMP in the sperm head. Transmembrane adenylyl cyclases (tmACs) are another possible source of cAMP. These enzymes are regulated by stimulatory heterotrimeric Gs proteins; however, the presence of Gs or tmACs in mammalian sperm has been controversial. In this manuscript, we used Western blotting and cholera toxin-dependent ADP ribosylation to show Gs presence in the sperm head. Also, we showed that forskolin, a tmAC specific activator, induces cAMP accumulation in sperm from both WT and Adcy10 null mice. This increase is blocked by the tmAC inhibitor SQ-22536 but not by the Adcy10 inhibitor KH7. While Gs immunoreactivity and tmAC activity are detected in the sperm head, PKA is only found in the tail, where Adcy10 was previously shown to reside. Consistent with an acrosomal localization, Gs reactivity is lost in acrosome reacted sperm, and forskolin is able to increase intracellular Ca2+ and induce the acrosome reaction. Altogether, these data suggest that cAMP pathways are compartmentalized in sperm, with Gs and tmAC in the head and Adcy10 and PKA in the flagellum.Fil: Wertheimer Hermitte, Eva Victoria. Delusional Disorder, Erotomanic Type, Exacerbated by Social Media Use
Erotomania is an uncommon form of delusional disorder in which an individual has an unfounded belief that another is in love with him. Previous case reports have shown that social media networks may play a role in worsening delusional beliefs. We report the case of a 24-year-old male college student that utilized social media to stalk a female college student, resulting in his suspension from school and hospitalization. The student was diagnosed with delusional disorder, erotomanic type, and started on risperidone. He showed little improvement and was transferred to another facility. This is the first identified case of social media triggering or exacerbating delusional disorder. We recommend increasing education on the ramifications of sharing personal information on social media
