Letter, W. S. Lee to W. H. Lee; 3/29/1862
Letter, William States Lee, a minister in Edgefield District, South Carolina, to his grandson, William Hollinshed Lee, of Blythe\u27s Regiment, Company A, Corinth, Mississippi. He mentions the evacuation of Columbus and doesn\u27t know if the letter will reach its destination. He writes that the South will not be subjugated. He believes that if the southern states had asserted themselves earlier and more strongly, they might have become an independent nation without a war and discusses God\u27s purposes in the War. He agrees with his grandson\u27s assertion that no one would be \u27\u27base enough\u27\u27 to take office in the South under Lincoln\u27s leadership. Any such man \u27\u27would richly deserve a Traitor\u27s doom.\u27\u27 He writes about the institution of the draft. 1862.https://scholarsjunction.msstate.edu/mss-san-lee-sar-papers/1001/thumbnail.jp
