    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis validitas isi instrumen tes berpikir kritis IPS  siswa kelas V di sekolah dasar. Instrumen tes berpikir kritis IPS merupakan instrumen yang dikembangkan dari Kompetensi Inti dan Kompetensi Dasar dan disesuaikan dengan indikator berpikir kritis yang meliputi aspek menginterpretasi, menganalisis, mengevaluasi dan menyimpulkan yang kemudian dirumuskan ke dalam 40 aitem. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis deskriptif sebagai analisis validitas isi berdasarkan perhitungan formula Aikenā€™s V. Data validitas isi diperoleh dari empat ahli dari berbagai bidang yaitu ahli pendidikan IPS, pengukuran, dan praktisi guru SD. Hasil validasi ahli kemudian dihitung menggunakan formula V Aikenā€™s yang diketahui dari 40 butir yang dibuat dinyatakan 40 butir valid yaitu V > 0,75, dengan rincian 7 butir memiliki indeks aiken sebesar 0,75 dan 33 butir >0,80 yang berarti memiliki koefisien yang cukup tinggi atau validitas isi yang baik dan mendukung isi tes secara keseluruhan

    THE PRE-SCHOOL TEACHERSā€™ UNDERSTANDING ON EARLY LITERACY: IMPLEMENTATION AND OBSTACLES IN TEACHING-LEARNING ACTIVITIES

    Early literacy plays a key role in enabling the kind of early learning experiences that research shows are linked with academic achievement, reduced grade retention, higher graduation rates and enhanced productivity in adult life (Strickland & Riley-Ayers, 2006). This case study focused on pre-school teachersā€™ understanding on early literacy policy, and the basic concepts. It also investigated the implementation of early literacy concept in teaching-learning activities, and also the difficulties the teachers encountered during the implementation. This study employed a qualitative design. Ten pre-school teachers were involved in this study. They came from several pre-schools in suburb areas. For validity purpose, data triangulation was applied. Therefore, this current study used several instruments, including open-ended questionnaires, non-participant classroom observations and semi-structured interviews conducted immediately after the completion of all activities in the classroom observations. It was found that the preschool teachersā€™ understanding on early literacy policy and concept still needs to be improved. It can be seen from the partial implementation of the concept in teaching-learning processes, most pre-school teachers considered that early literacy only covered pre-schoolers ability to read and to write printed material. Some obstacles were also found in the implementation of the right concept related to the early literacy, those obstacles were mainly caused by the teachersā€™ unsuitable education level, parentsā€™ high expectation, and also lack of facilities. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the early literacy policy and concepts should be comprehended thoroughly by pre-school teachers immediately to enhance the quality of the teaching-learning to young learners. It is also recommended that further study include more participants and broader scope

    Learning another language provides great pleasure. The four most tangible and visible factors involved in classroom teaching are learners, the teacher, the book and the physical surroundings. So that, it can be awarded that book is one of the most important factors determining the success of learning. Textbook can support what teacher explains to the students. In reading, students cannot only concentrate on the vocabulary, but also have to know the structure of sentences. Based on the statement above, the writer wants to know what kind types of sentences and the most dominant types of sentences used in reading texts of SMU textbook published by Grafindo Media Pratama. The purpose of the study is to investigate about types of sentences and the most dominant types of sentences on reading text of SMU textbook published by Grafindo Media Pratama. Besides, the result of this study will give contribution to the English teacher in order to select textbook and insert structure segment while teaching reading. Moreover, the limitation of the study is only to find types of sentences and to find the most dominant types of sentences on Reading Text of SMU Textbook published by Grafindo Media Pratama. The present study is descriptive design. The researcher uses simple random sampling, because it is to give the same opportunity to every member of population to be selected as sample. And the sample is 8 passages. The writer uses documentation study as an instrument to collect the data. Thus, the procedures of collecting data are two kinds of analysis, namely: grammatical analysis and frequency of occurrence analysis. Based on research finding, the writer concludes that Reading Texts of SMU Textbook published by Grafindo Media Pratama use four types of sentences (simple, compound, complex and compound-complex sentences) and the most dominant types of sentences is complex sentence. In conclusion, complex sentence often appears in reading text, usually reading text of SMU
