Recommended ENTREE S-band and Doppler models
Based on comparisons between instantaneous and light time delay (LTD) formulations for S band range and Doppler observables, expanded models for instantaneous S band observables are recommended for inclusion in the ENTREE program. In a worst case situation using Guam tracking for a representative shuttle entry trajectory, the proposed ENTREE model differs from the LTD model by approximately + or - 0.2 ft in range and + or - 0.02 Hz in Doppler. In contrast, the maximum differences between the existing ENTREE model and the LTD model are approximately (-80, +60) ft in range and (-4, -1) Hz in Doppler
Reproductive Management of Dairy Cows with Particular Reference to Organic Systems
Reproductive efficiency is a major factor affecting production and economic efficiency indairy herds. In seasonally calving herds the requirement of good reproductive performance is of greater importance than in other production systems in order to maximally exploit the use of grazed grass in the diet of the cow. Reproductive
performance of lactating dairy cows worldwide has declined over the past 30 years in association with selection for milk yield. There is increasing and consistent evidence to
suggest that at least some part of the decline in cow reproductive performance is related to underlying changes in reproductive physiology caused by high milk production and or negative energy balance (NEB) in early lactation. Organic systems of milk production demand high tight seasonal calving patterns, maximal production from grazed grass, low involuntary culling rates and the continuous genetic improvement of the herd for commercially important traits. Organic milk production systems should also allow for replacement rates of 25% - 30% to ensure a young herd age structure and low somatic cell counts (SCC). Tracking and data system support for the Mariner Mars 1971 mission. Volume 2: First trajectory correction maneuver through orbit insertion
The Deep Space Tracking and Data System activities in support of the Mariner Mars 1971 project from the first trajectory correction maneuver on 4 June 1971 through cruise and orbit insertion on 14 November 1971 are presented. Changes and updates to the TDS requirements and to the plan and configuration plus detailed information on the TDS flight support performance evaluation and the preorbital testing and training are included. With the loss of Mariner 8 at launch, a few changes to the Mariner Mars 1971 requirements, plan, and configuration were necessitated. Mariner 9 is now assuming the former mission plan of Mariner 8, including the TV mapping cycles and a 12-hr orbital period. A second trajectory correction maneuver was not required because of the accuracy of the first maneuver. All testing and training for orbital operations were completed satisfactorily and on schedule. The orbit insertion was accomplished with excellent results

Electric field effects on nematic wetting layers
We present a theoretical investigation of the temperature and electric field dependence of nematic liquid crystal wetting layers close to an aligning substrate within a confined system. Using a mesoscopic Q tensor theory coupled to Maxwell's equations for the electric field, we consider the existence and stability of homogeneous nematic wetting layers close to the substrate. Numerical results are presented showing the phase diagram for the isotropic (paranematic), nematic and wetting layer states. The effect on the isotropic-wetting transition, from first order to second order, when an electric field is applied is then investigated
