Optimized Switching Between Sensing and Communication for mmWave MU-MISO Systems

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a scheme optimizing the per-user channel sensing duration in millimeter-wave (mmWave) multi-user multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) systems. For each user, the BS predicts the effective rate to be achieved after pilot transmission. Then, the channel sensing duration of each user is optimized by ending the pilot transmission when the predicted rate is lower than the current rate. The robust regularized zero-forcing (RRZF) precoder and equal power allocation (EPA) are adopted to transmit sensing pilots and data. Numerical results show that the more severe the interference among users, the longer channel sensing duration is required. Moreover, the proposed scheme results in a higher sum rate compared to benchmark schemes

Optimizing the mmWave Channel Estimation Duration by Rate Prediction

In millimeter-wave (mmWave) wireless communications, the duration of the channel estimation plays a major role to establish the links before data transmission. However, fixed or long channel estimation can substantially hinder the achievable transmit data rates. In this letter, we propose a new scheme that optimizes the channel estimation duration to establish the link between the base station (BS) and a mobile station (MS) in mmWave communications. Before pilot transmissions, the BS predicts the downlink effective rate that would be achieved after channel estimation with the pilot precoder and compares this predicted rate with the current rate, based on the current channel estimates. The proposed scheme optimizes the mmWave channel estimation duration by ending pilot transmissions when the predicted rate is lower than the current rate

Toxic leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids caused by chemotherapeutic drugs other than methotrexate

Background The objective of this report is to share the clinicopathological features of chemotherapy-induced toxic leukoencephalopathy, which is a rare and under-recognized disease, clinically characterized by rapidly progressive cognitive loss that often leads to sudden death. Case presentation A 64-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, who had both suffered from a rapid deterioration of consciousness, were autopsied under the clinical impressions of either the central nervous system graft versus host disease (CNS-GVHD), infectious encephalitis, or autoimmune encephalitis. Both patients had been treated with multiple chemotherapy regimens, including adriamycin, cytarabine arabinoside, daunorubicin, fludarabine, azacitidine, and allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation to treat hematological malignancies (acute myelogenous leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome). Neuropathological findings at autopsy revealed rarefaction and vacuolar changes of the white matter with axonal spheroids, reactive gliosis, and foamy macrophage infiltration, predominantly in the visual pathways of the occipital and temporal lobes. Damaged axons exhibited immunoreactivity to beta-amyloid, consistent with axonopathy. However, there was no lymphocyte infiltration that suggested CNS-GVHD or any type of encephalitis. Conclusion The neuropathology found in the presented cases had the characteristic features of toxic leukoencephalopathy (chemobrain). Our cases showed that toxic leukoencephalopathy can also be caused by chemotherapy drugs other than methotrexate. This research was supported by a fund (2021-ER1001-01) by the Research of Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Background While ETV6- NTRK3 fusion is common in infantile fibrosarcoma, NTRK1/3 fusion in pediatric tumors is scarce and, consequently, not well known. Herein, we evaluated for the presence of NTRK1/3 fusion in pediatric mesenchymal tumors, clinicopathologically and immunophenotypically. Methods We reviewed nine NTRK fusion-positive pediatric sarcomas confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization and/or next-generation sequencing from Seoul National University Hospital between 2002 and 2020. Results One case of TPR-NTRK1 fusion-positive intracranial, extra-axial, high-grade undifferentiated sarcoma (12-year-old boy), one case of LMNA-NTRK1 fusion-positive low-grade infantile fibrosarcoma of the forehead (3-year-old boy), one case of ETV6-NTRK3 fusion-positive inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) (3-months-old girl), and six cases of ETV6-NTRK3 fusion-positive infantile fibrosarcoma (median age: 2.6 months, range: 1.6–5.6 months, M: F = 5:1) were reviewed. The Trk immunopositivity patterns were distinct, depending on what fusion genes were present. We observed nuclear positivity in TPR-NTRK1 fusion-positive sarcoma, nuclear membrane positivity in LMNA-NTRK1 fusion-positive sarcoma, and both cytoplasmic and nuclear positivity in ETV6-NTRK3 fusion-positive IMT and infantile fibrosarcomas. Also, the TPR-NTRK1 fusion-positive sarcoma showed robust positivity for CD34/nestin, and also showed high mitotic rate. The LMNA-NTRK1 fusion-positive sarcoma revealed CD34/S100 protein/nestin/CD10 coexpression, and a low mitotic rate. The IMT with ETV6-NTRK3 fusion expressed SMA. Six infantile fibrosarcomas with ETV6-NTRK3 fusion showed variable coexpression of nestin (6/6)/CD10 (4/5)/ S100 protein (3/6). Conclusions All cases of NTRK1 and NTRK3 fusion-positive pediatric tumors robustly expressed the Trk protein. A Trk immunopositive pattern and CD34/S100/nestin/CD10/SMA immunohistochemical expression may suggest the presence of NTRK fusion partner genes. LMNA-NTRK1 fusion sarcoma might be a low-grade subtype of infantile fibrosarcoma. Interestingly, more than half of the infantile fibrosarcoma cases were positive for S100 protein and CD10. The follow-up period of TPR-NTRK1 and LMNA-NTRK1 fusion-positive tumors are not enough to predict prognosis. However, ETV6-NTRK3 fusion-positive infantile fibrosarcomas showed an excellent prognosis with no evidence of disease for an average of 11.7 years, after gross total resection of the tumor. This work was supported by the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion (IITP) grant funded by the Korean government (MSIP) (No.2019–0567, Development of Intelligent SW systems for uncovering genetic variation and developing personalized medicine for cancer patients with unknown molecular genetic mechanisms)

Throughput Enhancement of Secondary Transmitter under Target Physical Layer Security Rate

Abstract-In this paper, we investigate the cognitive radio (CR) network, in which the secondary link works as a helper node to improve the physical layer secrecy rate of primary user. Depending upon the operation of secondary link, we consider two operation modes: (i) Spectrum-spatial leasing (SSL), which is introduced in the previous work, and (ii) Spectrum-time leasing (STL), which we propose. In guaranteeing the given secrecy rate and ensuring the throughput of the secondary link, the SSL considers both simultaneously, whereas the STL considers them separately. Therefore, there exists a performance gap between SSL and STL in terms of secrecy rate. We analyze both modes under the constraint of target physical layer secrecy rate compared with no helper node case. Since the performance of both modes has changed over different channel conditions, we propose a mode selection algorithm to increase the expected secondary throughput. We demonstrate that our analysis is in good agreement with the simulation results. Ordered assemblies of Fe3O4 and a donor-acceptor-type pi-conjugated polymer in nanoparticles for enhanced photoacoustic and magnetic effects

    No full text
We report that the ordered structure in the assemblies of iron oxide nanoparticles in conjugated polymer nanoparticles is the key to achieve better properties to realize multimodal theranostic agents for magnetic resonance and photoacoustic imaging. Hybrid nanoparticles of a conjugated polymer (PCPDTBT), a phospholipid (D8PE) with a primary amine polar head, and iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were prepared by a phase-separated film shattering process by varying the iron oxide concentration while maintaining a fixed mixing ratio of PCPDTBT and D8PE. Notably, the hybrid nanoparticles assembled at a molar mixing ratio of 1:1:0.8 (PCPDTBT/D8PE/Fe3O4) exhibited the shortest transversal relaxation time, T-2, and a photoacoustic signal 22 times higher than that obtained at the 1:1:0 mixing ratio. Structural analysis by X-ray diffraction together with the measurements of energy transfer by transient absorption spectroscopy confirmed that the structural ordering of these hybrid nanoparticles was responsible for their enhanced photoacoustic and magnetic properties
