Active suspensions: a reduced-order H∞ control design study
This paper studies order reduction issues for a vehicle active suspension system throughout its modelling, H-infinity controller design and controller refinement. Computer simulations demonstrate that an H-infinity controller for a full active suspension can be significantly reduced to nearly one third of its full order, while the active suspension performance is only slightly degraded. As a by-product, this paper also provides an explicit algorithm for reduced H-infinity control for singular and non-singular continuous-time systems
La plaza de mercado como Noduarticulador : espacio intermodal, la Mesa - Cundinamarca
The paper studies the utilisation of model reduction
techniques, both physical-based and mathematicalbased,
in designing simplified LQG optimal tilt controllers
to improve the curving performance of railway coaches at
increased running speed. The schemes make exclusive use
of local practical signal measurements, i.e. sensors mounted
on the current passenger coach. The fundamental problem
related with straightforward classical nulling-feedback control
is presented, while the commercially-used command-driven with
precedence scheme is introduced. A combination of simulation
results and, a recently proposed, tilt control system assessment
method are employed for assessing the performance of the
designed LQG controller
Progress in electrolyte-free fuel cells
Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) represents a clean electrochemical energy conversion technology with characteristics of high conversion efficiency and low emissions. It is one of the most important new energy technologies in the future. However, the manufacture of SOFCs based on the structure of anode/electrolyte/cathode is complicated and time-consuming. Thus, the cost for the entire fabrication and technology is too high to be affordable, and challenges still hinder commercialization. Recently, a novel type of electrolyte-free fuel cell (EFFC) with single component was invented, which could be the potential candidate for the next generation of advanced fuel cells. This paper briefly introduces the EFFC, working principle, performance, and advantages with updated research progress. A number of key R&D issues about EFFCs have been addressed, and future opportunities and challenges are discussed
Case Studies of Environmental Visualization
The performance gap between simulation and reality has been identified as a major challenge to achieving sustainability in the Built Environment. While Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) surveys are an integral part of better understanding building performance, and thus addressing this issue, the importance of POE remains relatively unacknowledged within the wider Built Environment community. A possible reason that has been highlighted is that POE survey data is not easily understood and utilizable by non-expert stakeholders, including designers. A potential method by which to address this is the visualization method, which has well established benefits for communication of big datasets. This paper presents two case studies where EnViz (short for “Environmental Visualization”), a prototype software application developed for research purposes, was utilized and its effectiveness tested via a range of analysis tasks. The results are discussed and compared with those of previous work that utilized variations of the methods presented here. The paper concludes by presenting the lessons drawn from the five-year period of EnViz, emphasizing the potential of environmental visualization for decision support in environmental design and engineering for the built environment, and suggests directions for future development

Network pharmacology and molecular docking-based strategy for predicting anti-tumour mechanism of linarin
The aim was to explore the anti-tumour mechanism of linarin (LIN) based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. PharmMapper database and GeneCards database were used to screen anti-tumour related targets of LIN. Enrichment analysis of GO and KEGG was conducted to predict the key targets and pathways. At last, LIN was docked with the key targets. ESR1, ESR2, EGFR, AR, TGFBR2, F2, MAPK10, MAPK14, CDK2 and HSP90AA1 were identified as the key targets. The key pathways included pathways in cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer and breast cancer. KEGG pathway maps indicated that the anti-tumour effect of LIN may be mainly achieved by intervening related targets in the following pathways: AR-HSP/AR-AR/PSA/proliferation and evading apoptosis;F2/GPCR/…/ROCK/tissue invasion and metastasis;F2/GPCR/…/Raf/MAPK signalling pathway/proliferation and sustained angiogenesis; EGFR/Grb2/…/Raf/MAPK signalling pathway/proliferation and sustained angiogenesis; ER/Oestrogen signalling pathway/proliferation;TGFBR2/Smad2/3/TGF-β signalling pathway/insensitivity to anti-growth signals; oxidative stress/KEAP1/NRF2/…/proliferation and evading apoptosis. LIN had strong binding activity with ESR2, EGFR, AR, CDK2 and HSP90AA1.</p
Chitooligosaccharides prevent osteopenia by promoting bone formation and suppressing bone resorption in ovariectomised rats: possible involvement of COX-2
<div><p>Chitooligosaccharides (CHOS) added in diet have been found as potent calcium fortifiers in conditions of Ca2+ deficiency such as osteoporosis. In this study, we found that pharmaceutical intervention using CHOS prevented ovariectomy (OVX)-induced bone mineral density loss and the deterioration of trabecular microarchitecture in a dose-dependent manner (<i>p</i> < 0.05 or 0.01). CHOS (125, 250 mg/kg) suppressed the serum levels of bone resorption biomarkers CTx and TRACP5b induced by OVX (<i>p</i> < 0.05), but increased the levels of osteogenic markers ALP and OC by 11.3–11.6% and 10.7–15.2% of OVX group (<i>p</i> < 0.05), suggesting the exact pharmacological action of CHOS in the control of osteoporosis which may be the result of both promoting bone formation and suppressing bone resorption. Bone turnover-modulating effects of CHOS appear related to their anti-inflammatory capacity to down-regulate mRNA and protein expression of COX-2 (17.2–32.2% and 16.4–21.9% of OVX group, <i>p</i> < 0.05 or 0.01), a key mediator linking between inflammation and osteoporosis.</p></div
Assay of Genome-Wide Transcriptome and Secreted Proteins on the Same Single Immune Cells by Microfluidics and RNA Sequencing
Given
vast heterogeneity of immune cells, searching for gene expression
and transcriptional networks belonging to specific cellular functions
such as cytokine production has been challenging. To overcome this
limitation, we developed a splittable single-cell microchip that integrates
a high-density antibody array for cytokine protein detection, while
the same single cells with protein profiles can be subsequently sequenced
to obtain the genome-wide transcriptome. Combined with bioinformatics
algorithms, we discovered a subgroup of highly coexpressed genes correlating
with TNFα secretion in mouse macrophage cells. This technology
and the data analysis may lead to an unprecedented understanding of
regulation mechanisms of the immune system and have the potential
to impact disease treatment and drug discovery
