    A BDDC Preconditioner for the Rotated Q

    We propose a BDDC preconditioner for the rotated Q1 finite element method for second order elliptic equations with piecewise but discontinuous coefficients. In the framework of the standard additive Schwarz methods, we describe this method by a complete variational form. We show that our method has a quasioptimal convergence behavior; that is, the condition number of the preconditioned problem is independent of the jumps of the coefficients and depends only logarithmically on the ratio between the subdomain size and the mesh size. Numerical experiments are presented to confirm our theoretical analysis

    Mixed Mortar Element Method for P NC 1 /P 0 Element and Its Multigrid Method for the Incompressible Stokes Problem

    We discuss a mortar-type P NC 1 /P 0 element method for the incompressible Stokes problem. We prove the inf-sup condition and obtain the optimal error estimate. Meanwhile, we propose a W-cycle multigrid for solving this discrete problem and prove the optimal convergence of the multigrid method, that is, the convergence rate is independent of the mesh size and mesh level. Finally, numerical experiments are presented to confirm our theoretical results

    Communication: Rigorous Quantum Dynamics of O + O₂ Exchange Reactions on an Ab Initio Potential Energy Surface Substantiate the Negative Temperature Dependence of Rate Coefficients

    The kinetics and dynamics of several O + O2 isotope exchange reactions have been investigated on a recently determined accurate global O3 potential energy surface using a time-dependent wave packet method. The agreement between calculated and measured rate coefficients is significantly improved over previous work. More importantly, the experimentally observed negative temperature dependence of the rate coefficients is for the first time rigorously reproduced theoretically. This negative temperature dependence can be attributed to the absence in the new potential energy surface of a submerged reef structure, which was present in all previous potential energy surfaces. In addition, contributions of rotational excited states of the diatomic reactant further accentuate the negative temperature dependence

    Protein kinase Cα downregulation via siRNA-PKCα released from foldable capsular vitreous body in cultured human retinal pigment epithelium cells

    We previously found that downregulation of protein kinase Cα (PKCα) can inhibit retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell proliferation involved in the development of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR). In this study, we tested whether PKCα could be downregulated via small interfering RNA (siRNA)-PKCα released from foldable capsular vitreous body (FCVB) in cultured human RPE cells. SiRNA-PKCα content, determined by ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometer, was released from FCVB containing 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 nm siRNA-PKCα in a time-dependent manner from 1 to 96 hours and a dose-dependent manner at five concentrations. The content (y) had a good linear relationship with time (x), especially in the 600 nm siRNA-PKCα group (y = 16.214x, R2 = 0.9809). After treatment with siRNA-PKCα released from FCVBs, the PKCα was significantly decreased by RT-PCR, Western blot, and immunofluorescence analysis in RPE cells. These results indicate that PKCα was significantly downregulated by siRNA-PKCα released from FCVB in human RPE cells and provide us with a new avenue to prevent PVR

    Empowering LLM to use Smartphone for Intelligent Task Automation

    Mobile task automation is an attractive technique that aims to enable voice-based hands-free user interaction with smartphones. However, existing approaches suffer from poor scalability due to the limited language understanding ability and the non-trivial manual efforts required from developers or end-users. The recent advance of large language models (LLMs) in language understanding and reasoning inspires us to rethink the problem from a model-centric perspective, where task preparation, comprehension, and execution are handled by a unified language model. In this work, we introduce AutoDroid, a mobile task automation system that can handle arbitrary tasks on any Android application without manual efforts. The key insight is to combine the commonsense knowledge of LLMs and domain-specific knowledge of apps through automated dynamic analysis. The main components include a functionality-aware UI representation method that bridges the UI with the LLM, exploration-based memory injection techniques that augment the app-specific domain knowledge of LLM, and a multi-granularity query optimization module that reduces the cost of model inference. We integrate AutoDroid with off-the-shelf LLMs including online GPT-4/GPT-3.5 and on-device Vicuna, and evaluate its performance on a new benchmark for memory-augmented Android task automation with 158 common tasks. The results demonstrated that AutoDroid is able to precisely generate actions with an accuracy of 90.9%, and complete tasks with a success rate of 71.3%, outperforming the GPT-4-powered baselines by 36.4% and 39.7%.     Changes of predominant species/biovars and sequence types of Brucellaisolates, Inner Mongolia, China

    BACKGROUND: Human brucellosis incidence in China was divided into 3 stages, high incidence (1950-1960s), decline (1970-1980s) and re-emergence (1990-2000s). Human brucellosis has been reported in all the 32 provinces, of which Inner Mongolia has the highest prevalence, accounting for over 40% of the cases in China. To investigate the etiology alteration of human brucellosis in Inner Mongolia, the species, biovars and genotypes of 60 Brucella isolates from this province were analyzed. METHODS: Species and biovars of the Brucella strains isolated from outbreaks were determined based on classical identification procedures. Strains were genotyped by multi locus sequence typing (MLST). Sequences of 9 housekeeping genes were obtained and sequence types were defined. The distribution of species, biovars and sequence types (STs) among the three incidence stages were analyzed and compared. RESULTS: The three stages of high incidence, decline and re-emergence were predominated by B. melitensis biovar 2 and 3, B. abortus biovar 3, and B. melitensis biovar 1, respectively, implying changes in the predominant biovars. Genotyping by MLST revealed a total of 14 STs. Nine STs (from ST28 to ST36), accounting for 64.3% of all the STs, were newly defined and different from those observed in other countries. Different STs were distributed among the three stages. ST8 was the most common ST in 1950-1960s and 1990-2000s, while ST2 was the most common in 1970-1980s. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of biovars and sequence types of Brucella strains from Inner Mongolia has changed over time in the three stages. Compared with those from other countries, new sequence types of Brucella strains exist in China

    The Antidiabetic and Antinephritic Activities of Auricularia cornea (An Albino Mutant Strain) via Modulation of Oxidative Stress in the db/db Mice

    This study first systematically analyzed the constituents of an albino mutant strain of Auricularia cornea (AU). After 8 weeks of continuous treatment with metformin (Met) (0.1 g/kg) and AU (0.1 and 0.4 g/kg), db/db mice showed hypoglycemic functioning, indicated by reduced bodyweight, food intake, plasma glucose, serum levels of glycated hemoglobin A1c and glucagon, hepatic levels of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase and lucose-6-phosphatasem, and increased serum levels of insulin. The effect of hypolipidemic functions were indicated by suppressed levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride, and enhanced levels of hepatic glycogen and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. The renal protective effect of AU was confirmed by the protection in renal structures and the regulation of potential indicators of nephropathy. The anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of AU were verified by a cytokine array combined with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. AU decreased the expression of protein kinase C α and β2 and phosphor-nuclear factor-κB, and enhanced the expression of catalase, nuclear respiratory factor 2 (Nrf2), manganese superoxide dismutase 2, heme oxygenase-1 and−2, heat shock protein 27 (HSP27), HSP60, and HSP70 in the kidneys of db/db mice. The results confirmed that AU's anti-diabetic and anti-nephritic effects are related to its modulation on oxidative stress
