Relativistic Spinor Dynamics Inducing the Extended Lorentz-Force-Like Equation
The special relativistic dynamical equation of the Lorentz force type can be
regarded as a consequence of a succession of space-time dependent infinitesimal
Lorentz transformations as shown by one of us \cite{buitrago} and discussed in
the introduction below. Such an insight indicates that the Lorentz-force-like
equation has an extremely fundamental meaning in physics. In this paper we
therefore present a set of dynamical Weyl spinor equations {\em inducing} the
extended Lorentz-force-like equation in the Minowski space-time. The term
extended refers to the dynamics of some additional degrees of freedom that may
be associated with the classical spin namely with the dynamics of three
space-like mutually orthogonal four-vectors, all of them orthogonal to the
linear four-momentum of the object under consideration.Comment: 15 page
Spectroscopy of the Lens Galaxy of Q0957+561A,B. Implications of a possible central massive dark object
We present new long-slit William Herschel Telescope spectroscopic
observations of the lens galaxy G1 associated with the double-imaged QSO
0957+561A,B. The obtained central stellar velocity dispersion, sigma_l = 310
+/- 20 km/s, is in reasonable agreement with other measurements of this
dynamical parameter. Using all updated measurements of the stellar velocity
dispersion in the internal region of the galaxy (at angular separations < 1".5)
and a simple isotropic model, we discuss the mass of a possible central massive
dark object. It is found that the data of Falco et al. (1997) suggest the
existence of an extremely massive object of (0.5-2.1) x 10E10/h M_\odot (80%
confidence level), whereas the inclusion of very recent data (Tonry & Franx
1998, and this paper) substantially changes the results: the compact central
mass must be 6 x10E9/h M_\odot at the 90% confidence level. We note that,
taking into account all the available dynamical data, a compact nucleus with a
mass of 10E9/h M_\odot (best fit) cannot be ruled out.Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures ApJ, in pres
Bovine Tuberculosis Testing in Colombia: Comparative Histopathological, Microbiological, and Molecular Biology Findings
Introduction: Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is a zoonotic infectious disease present in Colombia, caused by Mycobacterium bovis, and causes tuberculosis in water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). Diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis through the intradermal test is difficult; evaluating and understanding the behavior of other diagnostic tests is necessary.
Objective: To describe the behavior and results of different diagnostic methods for bovine tuberculosis in water buffalo positive for the Purifed Proteic Derivate (DPP) intradermal test.
Methodology: In water buffaloes positive for comparative cervical tuberculin test, different diagnostic methods were applied, described, and compared: Ziehl-Neelsen staining, microbiological culture, histopathological analysis, and PCR-HRM.
Results: Histopathological tests showed that 26 water buffalo positive for DPP (52%) had histological lesions compatible with bovine tuberculosis. 37% of the evaluated samples from tuberculin-positive Buffalo's lungs and secondary lymph nodes showed acid-alcohol-resistant bacillus with Ziehl-Neelsen staining. Four samples of Mycobacterium bovis from tuberculin-positive buffalo were isolated and identified, with two of these isolates confirmed from tissues with PCR-HRM, and three buffalo with microbiological isolates presented granulomatous lesions through histological analysis. Seventeen tuberculin-positive buffalo (34%) tested positive for real-time PCR HRM, and nine of these buffalo did not have histological lesions compatible with bTB and were confirmed with the molecular test.
Conclusion: Our results provide positive evidence of histological findings, microbiological isolation, and molecular diagnosis of tuberculin-positive water buffalo in the lowlands of Colombia. None of the complementary tests performed showed 100% concordance with the comparative cervical tuberculin test results for bTB
Screening for malnutrition among hospitalized patients in a Colombian University Hospital
Q4Q3Artículo de investigación449-457Pacientes del Hospital San IgnacioBackground: On admission, 30 to 50% of hospitalized patients have some
degree of malnutrition, which is associated with longer length of stay, higher rates
of complications, mortality and greater costs. Aim: To determine the frequency
of screening for risk of malnutrition in medical records and assess the usefulness
of the Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST). Material and Methods: In a
cross-sectional study, we searched for malnutrition screening in medical records,
and we applied the MST tool to hospitalized patients at the Internal Medicine
Wards of San Ignacio University Hospital. Results: Of 295 patients included,
none had been screened for malnutrition since hospital admission. Sixty one percent
were at nutritional risk, with a higher prevalence among patients with HIV
(85.7%), cancer (77.5%) and pneumonia. A positive MST result was associated
with a 3.2 days increase in length of hospital stay (p = 0.024). Conclusions: The
prevalence of malnutrition risk in hospitalized patients is high, but its screening
is inadequate and it is underdiagnosed. The MST tool is simple, fast, low-cost,
and has a good diagnostic performance
ABSTRACT: This article conducts characterization of the natural phenomena hazard on the territory of the Bahia Málaga, coupled with the social and economic conditions of the population, make up some special situations of risk. It explains how to address these situations, the community is organized politically and decided to confront a process of relocation happened mainly by the choice of a site with less vulnerability conditions

Taking into account the challenges found in the adequate management of patients with HPP, an interdisciplinary consensus of experts (pediatric endocrinologists, pediatric nephrologists, pediatric orthopedists and clinical geneticists) was carried out, in order to propose recommendations of clinical utility for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of Colombian patients with HPP. These suggestions are made in the context of the different types of presentations and the ages of the patients
