Islamism, Re-Islamisation and the Fashioning of Muslim Selves: Refiguring the Public Sphere
This article explores the political implications of Muslim public self-presentation and forms of self-fashioning associated with the ongoing processes of re-Islamisation in both Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority societies. It sketches how projects of the Muslim public self contribute to a refiguring of the public sphere. The argument put forward is that public practices of self-reform grounded in religion and presented in pietistic terms are political by virtue of being tied to projects of societal reform and because they have a bearing on the public sphere and public space. Proceeding from the premise that the public sphere is not neutral and that the subjectivities inhabiting it are shaped by power relations, the article examines the ways in which projects of Muslim public selves are imbricated in the material conditions of the settings in which they develop and as such are underpinned by dynamics of power and contestation
DESIGN OF ELECTRICAL POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM FOR A MODERN HOSPITAL
Hospitals are the most complex of building types. Each hospital is comprised of a
wide range of services and functional units. These include diagnostic and treatment
functions, such as clinical laboratories, imaging, emergency rooms, surgery and the
fundamental inpatient care. This diversity is reflected in the breadth and specificity
ofregulations, codes, and oversightthat governhospitalconstruction and operations.
Today's health care facilities, because of their increasing size and complexity, have
become more and more dependent upon safe, adequate, and reliable electrical
systems. Every day new types of sophisticated diagnostic and treatment equipment,
utilizing microprocessors or computers, come on the market. Many of these items
are sensitive to electrical disturbances and some require a very reliable power
source. Invasive medical procedures such as cardiac catheterization have become
routine in today's hospital. Such procedures make electrical safety extremely
important. Moreover, with today's sophisticated lifestyle, it resulted with most ofthe
hospital being centrally air - conditioned in order to provide enhanced comfort to
their patients. This has lead to an increase of the hospital load. However, the major
consideration is that essential services must not be disrupted by any cause.
Therefore, a proper sizing of the electrical equipment is important in order to assure
a continuous supply to the hospital. With the help ofan interactive programming, the
transformer and generator size for any new hospital can be determined
Effect of Performance-Based Pay on Employees' Outcomes
Based on past research that discussed the system of pay within an organization, participation and performance appraisal are two important elements in a performance-based pay. The ability of managers to implement these two important elements may influence job satisfaction and organizational commitment among employees. Hence, this study was carried out to test the connection between performance-based pay against job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Employees at the Department of Fire and Rescue in Selangor and Putrajaya were chosen as the sample in this study. The outcome of the SmartPLS model analysis demonstrates that participation and performance appraisal play an important role as a determinant of an employee's job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Discussion, implication, and conclusion have been provided in this study
Academic dishonesty among accounting students in Malaysia / Salwa Hana Yussof and Suhaiza Ismail.
There are three objectives of the present study: to ascertain the types of assessment which are subject to cheating by accounting students; to determine the justifications given by students in neutralizing their cheating behavior; and to identify cheating deterrents from the perception of the students. A total of 435 questionnaires were collected from undergraduate accounting students of all levels of study in a public university in Malaysia. Findings revealed that more than half of the respondents had engaged in cheating, but mainly in quizzes and assignments that offer less weighting towards a final grade, and were subject to less monitoring and less severe punishment. As for neutralization, those who cheated had a tendency to blame instructors for their cheating behavior. In terms of deterrence, religion was cited most frequently as the factor that can deter students from cheating, particularly by continuous reminder that the God is always watching
