PERSPECTIVES OF ENGLISH MAJORS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PRAGMATIC COMPETENCE IN EFFECTIVE ENGLISH COMMUNICATION

    Get PDF
The present research examines English major students' perceptions regarding the role of pragmatic competence in effective English communication. Pragmatic competence — knowing how to use a language under specific social and cultural circumstances — is vital to effective communication; however, it is frequently overlooked in conventional language teaching. The current investigation was designed to investigate the consciousness of pragmatic features among learners, their confidence in their ability to apply these in actual communicative situations, and their preferred way of instruction for developing pragmatic skills. Data were gained through a questionnaire for 94 English-major students. Results show that while students understand the value of pragmatic competence, they often face challenges in applying it due to limited exposure to authentic English and insufficient classroom focus on real-life communication strategies. The findings suggest a gap between students’ awareness and their actual communicative performance, highlighting the need for curriculum improvements. This study provides useful insights for teachers and curriculum designers aiming to enhance communicative competence in EFL contexts.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
1 p.Antibiotic resistance is an emerging global problem threatening human health as resistant bacteria become difficult or impossible to treat with existing antibacterial drugs. Contamination of antibiotics or substances with antimicrobial activity from human discharge activities including domestic, agricultural, and industrial activities is believed to be the leading cause of antibiotic resistance development. In this study, the indole test and the disk diffusion method are used to confirm E. coli and to measure the multidrug resistance of E. coli in wastewater. As the results, the indole test showed that the highest percentage of positive colonies in S1 about 75-100% and the lowest in S5 about 45-60%. The disk diffusion test showed that E. coli strains resistant to 1 of 5 target antibiotics (Amikacin, Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, Cefixime, ciprofloxacin, Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim) isolated from wastewater samples gave a total of cross-resistance with other antibiotics is very high. Many strains are resistant to more than 1 antibiotic, especially Amikacin resistant strains have the resistance rate to all 5 antibiotics tested up to 31.25%. The results showed that antibiotic-resistant pollution is present in wastewater in Ho Chi Minh City, and specific action plans need to be taken to minimize the level of pollution as well as the possibility of spreading antibiotic resistance in the environment

Trends in socioeconomic inequalities in full vaccination coverage among vietnamese children aged 12–23 months, 2000–2014: Evidence for mitigating disparities in vaccination

    Get PDF
There has been no report on the situation of socioeconomic inequalities in the full vaccination coverage among Vietnamese children. This study aims to assess the trends and changes in the socioeconomic inequalities in the full vaccination coverage among Vietnamese children aged 12–23 months from 2000 to 2014. Data were drawn from Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (2000, 2006, 2011, and 2014). Concentration index (CCI) and concentration curve (CC) were applied to quantify the degree of the socioeconomic inequalities in full immunization coverage. The prevalence of children fully receiving recommended vaccines was significantly improved during 2000–2014, yet, was still not being covered. The total CCI of full vaccination coverage gradually decreased from 2000 to 2014 (CCI: from 0.241 to 0.009). The CC increasingly became close to the equality line through the survey period, indicating the increasingly narrow gap in child full immunization amongst the poor and the rich. Vietnam witnessed a sharp decrease in socioeconomic inequality in the full vaccination coverage for over a decade. The next policies towards children from vulnerable populations (ethnic minority groups, living in rural areas, and having a mother with low education) belonging to lower socioeconomic groups may mitigate socioeconomic inequalities in full vaccination coverage. © 2019 by the authors. We produce the green phosphor Ca14-xEuxMg2[SiO4]8 (CEMSO) to be a part of the white light emitting diodes (WLEDs), short for diodes that generate white illumination. It has wide emission spectra, reaching highest value as 505 nm when excited at the wavelength of 400 nm, which is caused by the 4f 65d–4f 7 shift (excited state to ground state) in an ion of Eu2+. The dipole-dipole interactivity appeared to be main energy shift method for the electric multipolar nature in CEMSO. We determine the critical distance to be 12.9 Å as well as 14.9 Å via a critical Eu2+ concentration and theory of Dexter regarding the energy shift. The CEMSO is integrated into the phosphor compound of yellow-phosphor/silicone for producing the UV-LED (395 nm). The impacts of CEMSO concentrations on UV-LED performances are determined. Significant improvements in chromatic uniformity and luminous output of the WLED are reported. The color rendering index (CRI) is not promoted, but this can be addressed by combining CEMSO green phosphor with red-luminescence materials, for example, red quantum dots or red phosphors

The influences of LaVO4:Eu3+,Cr3+ red phosphors on white light-emitting diode applications

    Get PDF
In this present paper, the LaVO4:Eu3+,Cr3+ (LV:Eu,Cr) red-orange phosphorsare introduced in WLED fabrication. The LV:Eu,Cr phosphor is synthesized with high-temperature solid-phase reaction. The luminescence properties of the phosphor are monitored with ultraviolet-visible and near-infrared (UV-vis-NIR) measurements. The heat generating in the phosphor sample is also investigated with different power densities of the 980 nm laser. The phosphor exhibits absorption bands at 254 nm and 316 nm, suitable for UV light-emitting diodes (UV LED) applications. The Cr3+ concentrations have noticeable effects on the luminescence of the phosphor. The increasing Cr3+ dosage initiates reduction in Eu3+ emission intensity and luminescence lifetime average. The heat-activated amount in the phosphor is also significant with the higher concentration of Cr3+ ions. When using the LV:Eu,Cr phosphor in white light-emitting model (WLED), the dominant red-orange emission centered at 595 nm is observed, in addition to the blue peak at 453 nm. The luminosity, color rendition, and color uniformity of the WLED light are also discussed. The findings indicate that the phosphor can be combined with other high-efficiency blue and green phosphors to obtain the improved color rendition and luminous performances and used in heat-creating optical applications

Ranking load in microgrid based on fuzzy analytic hierarchy process and technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution algorithm for load shedding problem

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a method to rank the loads in the microgrid by means of a weight that combines the criteria together in terms of both technical and economic aspects. The fuzzy analytic hierarchy process technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (fuzzy AHP TOPSIS) algorithm is used to calculate this combined weight. The criteria to be considered are load importance factor (LIF), voltage electrical distance (VED) and voltage sensitivity index (VSI). The fuzzy algorithm helps to fuzzy the judgment matrix of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method, making it easier to compare objects with each other and remove the uncertainty of the AHP method. The technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) algorithm is used to normalize the decision matrix, determine the positive and negative ideal solutions to calculate the index of proximity to the ideal solution, and finally rank all the alternatives. The combination of fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS algorithms is the optimal combination for decision making and ranking problems in a multi-criteria environment. The 19-bus microgrid system is applied to calculate and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method

Load Shedding in Microgrid System with Combination of AHP Algorithm and Hybrid ANN-ACO Algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a new load shedding method based on the application of intelligent algorithms, the process of calculating and load shedding is carried out in two stages. Stage-1 uses a backpropagation neural network to classify faults in the system, thereby determining whether or not to shed the load in that particular case. Stage-2 uses an artificial neural network combined with an ant colony algorithm (ANN-ACO) to determine a load shedding strategy. The AHP algorithm is applied to propose load shedding strategies based on ranking the importance of loads in the system. The proposed method in the article helps to solve the integrated problem of load shedding, classifying the fault to determine whether or not to shedding the load and proposing a correct strategy for shedding the load. The IEEE 25-bus 8-generator power system is used to simulate and test the effectiveness of the proposed method, the results show that the frequency of recovery is good in the allowable range
