    The effect of anisometropia on stereopsis

    Background and aim: For good stereopsis, the two retinal images should have similar clarity, shape, and size. Anisometropia is one of the factors which has affect on stereopsis. The purpose of this study was investigation of induced anisometropia effect on binocular function and stereopsis. Methods: In this semi experimental study, a total of 135 students from Zahedan University of Medical Sciences who had inclusion criteria were selected randomly. At the beginning of the work, the refractive errors of the subjects were determined and corrected with retinoscop and their stereopsis measured using T.N.O test. Subsequently, this hyperopic and myopic anisometropia induced by use of negative and positive spherical lenses (power 1, 2, 3 diopter) in trial frame in front of one eye and in each state stereopsis measured again. In agreement and against the rule astigmatic anisometropia induced by positive cylindrical lenses in 180 and 90 degree axes and stereopsis measured again. Data were analyzed by SPPS.14 software using within subjects factorial and repeated measurement ANOVA test. Results: This study showed that both type and amount of anisometropia had significant effect on stereopsis (P<0.001). The mean of stereopsis before intervention was (36.42±12.65). The most and least reduction of stereopsis were related to 3D hyperopic anisometropia (339.42±125.1) and 1D with the rule astigmatic anisometropia (36.57±12.6), respectively. The mean of stereopsis before and after different type and amount of induced anisometropia were significantly different (P<0.001). Conclusion: The result of this study showed that with increasing of anisometropia, stereoacuity decreases. Therefore, low degree of anisometropia, even 1D, can decrease both stereopsis and binocular function and thus, the amendment of stereopsis is necessary

    Presence of Listeria monocytogenes in silage products of Shahrekord city

    Objective: To investigate the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the silage samples. Methods: Silage samples obtained from 150 different farms in Shahrekord city (Iran) and after DNA extraction, all samples were analyzed by PCR technique using one pair of primers for presence of this pathogen. The amplified products were detected on 1.5% agarose gel electrophoresis. Results: Listeria monocytogenes was isolated in 4 (2%) of the 150 samples. The detection of this bacterium from silage samples in Shahrekord city indicated that these products could create a serious risk in public health of animal and human. The findings showed that in positive silage samples for Listeria monocytogenes, the pH value was about five and it was due to bacterial activity in these products. Conclusions: The quality of silage and hygiene parameters and good herd health management play an important role in the microbiological quality of herd and farm. Considering the high specificity and sensitivity of the employed PCR technique, it is recommended to be useful technique for identification of Listeria monocytogenes

    زمینه و هدف: برتری متقاطع وجود چشم غالب در یک سمت و دست غالب در سمت دیگر بدن می باشد. این حالت می تواند سبب بروز اختلالاتی در وضعیت سر و ستون فقرات شود. هدف این مطالعه، بررسی ارتباط بین برتری متقاطع چشمی با ناهنجاری های ساختاری سر و ستون فقرات در دانشجویان دانشگاه علوم پزشکی زاهدان بود. روش بررسی: در این مطالعه توصیفی-تحلیلی،300 دانشجوی دانشگاه علوم پزشکی زاهدان به صورت تصادفی انتخاب و چشم غالب آنها با تست مایلز تعیین شد. سپس افراد به دو گروه با و بدون برتری متقاطع تقسیم شدند. وجود یا عدم وجود اختلالات ساختاری ستون فقرات و وضعیت قرار گیری سر با استفاده از صفحه شطرنجی و شاقول در دو گروه بررسی شد. داده ها با استفاده از آزمون کای دو تجزیه و تحلیل گردید. یافته ها: از 300 مورد، 76 نفر (3/25 ) دارای برتری متقاطع و 224 نفر (7/74 ) فاقد برتری متقاطع بودند. بین برتری متقاطع چشم و دست با اسکولیوزیس (001/0

    A Comparison Between the Effect of Cuminum Cyminum and Vitamin E on the Level of Leptin, Paraoxonase 1, HbA1c and Oxidized LDL in Diabetic Patients.

    Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic diseases in the world. Vitamin E reduces protein glycation and improves insulin sensitivity, while cumin is effective in remission of diabetes. Therefore this study was designed to evaluate the effects of vitamin E and cumin essential oil, on the blood level of leptin,glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) and also on lipid profile in diabetic patients.In this double blind clinical trial, 95 diabetic patients were selected and randomly dividedinto three groups.The first group received cumin essential oil in capsule form. The second group received Vitamin E, and the third group was used ascontrol receiving oral gelatin capsules as placebo for three months period.Blood glucose, lipid profile, apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), apolipoprotein B (ApoB), leptin, HbA1c, oxidized LDL (oxLDL), and paraoxonase1 activity were measured. The results showed reduction in oxLDL and significant increase in paraoxonase 1 in Vitamin E group by the end of the third month period (P<0.05). Cumin group showed decrease in blood glucose, HbA1C, triglyceride, leptin and ox-LDL. ApoA1 and paraoxonase1 were also increased by cumin treatment (P<0.05).Diabetic complications may have been reduced by intake of Vitamin E and cumin essential oil. Cumin in comparison with vitamin E has broader impact and it is more beneficial in terms of ability to reduce the diabetic index

    The investigation of relationship between binocular vision status and migraine headaches

    زمینه و هدف: با توجه به نتایج ضد و نقیض در مورد ارتباط بین سردردهای میگرنی و اختلالات دید دوچشمی، این مطالعه با هدف تعیین ارتباط بین برخی از پارامترهای دید دو چشمی با میگرن انجام شد. روش بررسی: در این مطالعه مورد- شاهدی، 30 نفر بیمار میگرنی که معیارهای ورود به مطالعه را داشتند به همراه 30 نفر بدون سردرد میگرنی مورد مطالعه قرار گرفتند. ابتدا بیماران با استفاده از پرسشنامه استاندارد سردرد غربال شده و تایید نهایی توسط نورولو‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ژیست انجام شد. عیوب انکساری به روش رتینوسکوپی تعیین و سپس نقطه نزدیک تقارب، تقارب پرشی، استریوپسیس، ذخایر فیوژنی، انحراف دور و نزدیک در دو گروه تعیین شد. داده ها با استفاده از آزمون های من- ویتنی و رگرسیون لجستیک تک متغیره و چندگانه تحلیل شد. یافته ها: میانگین استریوپسیس در گروه مورد و شاهد به ترتیب 82/33±17/154 و 1/26±0/49 ثانیه بر کمان بود و به ترتیب در گروه مورد و شاهد میانگین فوریای نزدیک 72/6±3/8 و 85/2±5/6، ذخایر فیوژنی مثبت دور 76/2± 7/10 و 07/5±07/6، ذخایر فیوژنی منفی دور 7/4±2/18 و 37/7±0/11، ذخایر فیوژنی مثبت نزدیک 49/4±5/16 و 72/8±97/13 و ذخایر فیوژنی منفی نزدیک 22/5±7/22 و 25/9±67/14 پریزیوم دیوپتر بود. متوسط متغیرهای فوق و تقارب پرشی در دو گروه تفاوت معنی داری داشت (05/0>P) ولی متوسط سایر متغیرها در دو گروه معنی دار نبود. در رگرسیون لجستیک چندگانه فقط تقارب پرشی، تقارب فیوژنی مثبت در دور و نزدیک در مدل باقی ماند (05/0

    QoS-aware Scientific Application Scheduling Algorithm in Cloud Environment

    Many complex scientific applications are modeled in the form of workflows to carry out large-scale experiments. Because of complexity of scientific processes, scientific workflows need intensive computation and data requirements. Clouds make opportunity for scientific that need high performance computing infrastructure. So scientific can run their application on cloud by their desired QoS. We propose an algorithm that able scientific to select execute plan based on their preference QoS, like time and cost. Proposed algorithm ranks the tasks in workflow and then use UPFF function for select accurate resource, based on user’s QoS. We compared our proposed algorithm with the same work by several scenarios and results show proposed algorithm has better efficiency.     The correlation between insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and novel adipocytokines in postmenopausal women: A population-based study

    The adipocytokines and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) are involved in insulin resistance, the cardiometabolic syndrome, and atherosclerosis. Therefore, investigating the relationship between circulating levels of the novel adipocytokines and IGF-1 is worthwhile. The correlation between IGF-1, visfatin, and omentin-1 has not been adequately investigated. In a population-based study, 324 postmenopausal women were randomly selected. Circulating IGF-1, visfatin, omentin-1, adiponectin, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels weremeasured with the highly specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. In multiple regression analyses adjusted for alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, and hs-CRP, circulating IGF-1 was significantly correlated with visfatin levels (standardized β coefficient [β] = 0.13, partial correlation coefficient [r] = 0.12, p = 0.028). The significant positive correlation between serum IGF-1 and visfatin levels remained after additional adjustments for age and BMI (β = 0.12, r = 0.12, p = 0.025), metabolic syndrome (β = 0.13, r = 0.12, p = 0.021), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (β = 0.13, r = 0.12, p = 0.026). No significant correlationswere found between IGF-1, adiponectin, and omentin-1. There is a significant correlation between serum IGF-1 and visfatin levels in postmenopausalwomen beyondmetabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, bone formationmarkers, and hs-CRP levels. The observed correlation between higher circulating IGF-1 and the higher visfatin levels might be a physiological compensation and adaptation to protect against visfatin-induced proinflammatory effects

    Voltage Stabilization of A DC-Microgrid Using ANFIS Controller Considering Electrical Vehicles and Transient Storage

    In this paper, we proposed a DC-microgrid with four main elements for Voltage stabilization. This research also presented a cost function that will guarantee the lifecycle of the EVs' battery because we use a Super Capacitor to damp the transient Ripples of Bus Voltage. This DCMG has four main branches: Ballast, Random Load, Random Source, and Stabilizer. The Random Source is photovoltaic, and the Random Load includes consumers. The three first branches make the DCMG go to the destabilization mode, and the last one has to stabilize its role in this DCMG. The controller consists of a fuzzy inference system optimized using PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm, so this controller adjusts the duty cycle of three main branches in the stabilization branch of this DCMG. It is a MIMO ANFIS controller, and we compared the results of this controller with other controllers. In this research, we have designed three scenarios to verify the results: production more than consumption, vice versa, and equality between production and consumption. In this paper, the efficiency of this method -- using ANFIS controller -- in comparison with others -- using another type of controller -- will evaluate under different operating conditions, production and consumption inequality, and equality.Comment: 19 pages, 27 figure

    Antifungal Activity of Two Root Canal Sealers against Different Strains of Candida

    Introduction: Microorganisms and microbial products are the main etiologic factors in pulp and periapical diseases. The present study aimed to compare the antifungal activity of two different sealers, AH-26 and MTA Fillapex against three strains of Candida, 24, 48, 72 h and 7 days after mixing. Methods and Materials: The microorganisms used in this study were Candidia albicans (ATCC 10231), Candidia glabrata (ATCC 90030) and Candidia krusei (DSM 70079). This test was based on growth of microorganisms and turbidity measurement technique using a spectrophotometer. The direct contact test was conducted by direct and indirect methods. Multiple comparisons were carried out using analysis of variances (ANOVA) with repeated measures followed by Tukey’s tests. Results: The antifungal activity of both sealers was similar in the indirect method. The antifungal activity of both sealers in the direct method was similar against Candida albicans and higher for AH-26 sealer against Candida krusei and Candida glabrata. Conclusion: The total antifungal effect of MTA Fillapex sealer was significantly less than AH-26 sealer in direct method.
