STATEMENT REGARDING MAGNIFICAT
This thesis statement presents an analysis and explanation of a music composition entitled: Magnificat. The full music score to the Magnificat may be found in the collection of the Music Department of the School of the Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University. The King James Version is the source for all of Biblical text. The presentation here of the text for the Magnificat corresponds to the manner it is introduced into the music score. Thus, the use of small case primarily to contrast those parts of the text of high volume intensity which are capitalized, and parallel text to show simultaneous reading
Optimization of a field-widened Michelson interferometer
This paper considers the optical design of a wide-angle fixed-path Michelson interferometer consisting of
two arm glasses and an air gap. It is shown that this configuration can be optimized to give (a) extra large
fringes (over 50° in diameter) over a range of wavelength, (b) a path difference nearly independent of wavelength,
or (c) a path difference specified differently at two different wavelengths for observing a pair of doublets.
Specific examples refer to the airglow wavelengths of 557.7, 630.0, 732.0 nm and others, and to a path difference of 4.5 cm. The properties of different glass combinations are discussed
High School Student Reactions to an Interdisciplinary Teaching Method in Agricultural Education
Tomorrow’s agricultural workforce will face challenges in the form of complex problems that transcend disciplinary boundaries, including food security. Addressing these complex issues requires professionals to work within and across disciplines in ways that may not have been required in previous generations. Teaching using an interdisciplinary approach may be one approach to helping students develop the skills needed to address these problems. The purpose of this study was to explore student reactions to being taught with an interdisciplinary teaching method in a secondary agricultural education context. Overall, students reacted favorably to this interdisciplinary teaching approach. Several student characteristics contributed to their reactions. Multiple aspects of the facilitation process also impacted student reactions, as did specific features of the interdisciplinary approach. The interdisciplinary teaching approach produced several learning outcomes beyond the technical concepts, including gaining new perspectives and critical thinking. Recommendations for teachers and recommendations for additional research are provided
Needs Assessment in Postgraduate Medical Education:A Review
Although the concept of needs assessment in continuing medical education is well accepted, there is limited information on needs assessment in postgraduate medical education. We discuss the learning needs of postgraduate trainees and review the various methods of needs assessment such as: questionnaire surveys, interviews, focus groups, chart audits, chart-stimulated recall, standardized patients, and environmental scans in the context of post graduate medical education

Proteomics of Carbon Fixation Energy Sources in Halothiobacillus neapolitanus
Through the use of proteomics, it was uncovered that the autotrophic, aerobic purple sulfur bacterium Halothiobacillus neapolitanus displays changes in cellular levels of portions of its carbon dioxide uptake and fixation mechanisms upon switch from bicarbonate to CO2(g) as carbon source. This includes an increase in level of a heterodimeric bicarbonate transporter along with a potential switch between form I and form II of RubisCO. Additional changes are seen in several sulfur oxidation pathways, which may indicate a link between sulfur oxidation pathways as an energy source and carbon uptake/fixation mechanisms
