    Parametric identification of the dynamics of inter-sectoral balance: modelling and forecasting

    This work is devoted to modelling and identification of the dynamics of the inter-sectoral balance of a macroeconomic system. An approach to the problem of specification and identification of a weakly formalized dynamical system is developed. A matching procedure for parameters of a linear stationary Cauchy problem with a decomposition of its upshot trend and a periodic component, is proposed.     Optimal control of a dengue epidemic model with vaccination

    We present a SIR+ASI epidemic model to describe the interaction between human and dengue fever mosquito populations. A control strategy in the form of vaccination, to decrease the number of infected individuals, is used.     A model with six mutually-exclusive compartments related to Dengue disease is presented. In this model there are three vector control tools: insecticides (larvicide and adulticide) and mechanical control. The problem is studied using an Optimal Control (OC) approach.     A model for the transmission of dengue disease is presented. It consists of eight mutually-exclusive compartments representing the human and vector dynamics. It also includes a control parameter (insecticide) in order to fight the mosquitoes. The main goal of this work is to investigate the best way to apply the control in order to effectively reduce the number of infected humans and mosquitoes.     O estudo, de caracter√≠sticas explorat√≥rias, sustentou-se numa an√°lise de conte√ļdo de 20 entrevistas a assistentes sociais do Centro de Seguran√ßa Social da Madeira que participaram no Plano de Emerg√™ncia, accionado aquando da cat√°strofe ocorrida na Regi√£o Aut√≥noma da Madeira a 20 de Fevereiro de 2010. Com este estudo, pretendeu-se identificar n√£o s√≥ como os assistentes sociais do Centro de Seguran√ßa Social da Madeira agiram em termos profissionais face √† situa√ß√£o de cat√°strofe colectivamente vivenciada, mas tamb√©m as respostas sociais organizadas pelas equipas de emerg√™ncia e, de forma particular, pelas equipas de assistentes sociais, tendo em conta o papel do Servi√ßo Social em contexto de cat√°strofe. Com base numa an√°lise reflexiva dos materiais recolhidos, tornou-se poss√≠vel identificar quer o tipo de respostas sociais que foram organizadas a partir do Centro de Seguran√ßa Social da Madeira na situa√ß√£o de cat√°strofe ocorrida neste territ√≥rio, quer o papel desenvolvido pelos assistentes sociais envolvidos no exerc√≠cio de interven√ß√£o e apoio social √†s v√≠timas. Da an√°lise dos dados recolhidos, concluiu-se que as respostas sociais corresponderam √†s necessidades do contexto vivido. A sua organiza√ß√£o processou-se de forma articulada com o apoio psicossocial √†s v√≠timas e com a capitaliza√ß√£o das sinergias dispon√≠veis por parte da popula√ß√£o e for√ßas vivas da cidade e ilha. From health concerns to situations related with marketing, informatics or even sociology, several are the fields that are using this epidemiological model as a first approach to better understand a situation.     Tese de mestrado em Matem√°tica Computacional.Este trabalho tem dois objectivos - a an√°lise do Problema de Optimiza√ß√£o com Restri√ß√Ķes de Complementaridade e a sua aplica√ß√£o a um caso real. O problema, conhecido na literatura por MPCC (Mathematical Program with Complementarity Constraints), insere-se na √°rea da Optimiza√ß√£o N√£o Linear e apresenta, para al√©m das restri√ß√Ķes n√£o lineares, restri√ß√Ķes de complementaridade. O conceito de complementaridade est√° relacionado com a no√ß√£o de equil√≠brio, da√≠ a sua aplicabilidade na Engenharia e na Economia. √Č um problema de dif√≠cil resolu√ß√£o porque as usuais qualifica√ß√Ķes das restri√ß√Ķes, necess√°rias para garantir a converg√™ncia dos algoritmos, falham em todos os pontos admiss√≠veis. T√™m sido desenvolvidos algoritmos espec√≠ficos para a sua resolu√ß√£o mas necessitam de condi√ß√Ķes muito fortes para garantir eventual converg√™ncia. Estudos recentes provaram que a estacionaridade forte dum problema MPCC √© equivalente √†s condi√ß√Ķes de optimalidade de primeira ordem do problema NLP equivalente (NonLinear Program). Com base neste resultado, uma reformula√ß√£o NLP √© usada na qual as restri√ß√Ķes de complementaridade s√£o substitu√≠das por restri√ß√Ķes n√£o lineares de desigualdade equivalentes, podendo o problema MPCC ser resolvido por solvers NLP. Um conjunto de noventa e dois problemas codificados em AMPL √© resolvido, na sua reformula√ß√£o NLP equivalente, por quatro pacotes de software - LOQO, MATLAB, NPSOL e Filter SQP. √Č feita uma an√°lise comparativa dos resultados. O segundo objectivo deste trabalho consiste na formula√ß√£o e codifica√ß√£o em AMPL de uma aplica√ß√£o real, bem como a sua resolu√ß√£o usando alguns solvers. √Č estudado um problema de m√©dia dimens√£o relacionado com o mercado oligopolista de energia el√©ctrica, modelado como um jogo de Stackelberg.This work has two goals - the Mathematical Program with Complementarity Constraints analysis and its application to a real case. The problem, MPCC, is part of the Nonlinear Optimization and presents nonlinear constraints as well as complementarity constraints. The complementarity concept is related to the equilibrium notion and so the MPCC is very common in Engineering and Economics areas. This problem is very dificult to solve because the usual constraints qualifications, necessary to guarantee the algorithms convergence, fail in all feasible points. Some specific algorithms to solve MPCC have been developed but they need strong assumptions to converge. Recent studies have proved that the strong stationarity of an MPCC is equivalent to the first order optimality conditions of the nonlinear program (NLP) equivalent. Using this result, an NLP reformulation is used in which the complementarity constraints are replaced by the equivalent nonlinear inequality constraints in such a way that the MPCC can be solved by NLP codes. A set of ninety two AMPL problems is solved, in its equivalent NLP reformulation, by four software packages - LOQO, MATLAB, NPSOL and Filter SQP. A results comparative analysis is made. The second purpose of this work is the formulation and the AMPL codification of a real application as well as its resolution by NLP solvers. A medium scale problem related to electric energy oligopolist market, modelled as a Stackelberg game, is studied
