Post-secondary transition and follow-up services in public education for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities

The purpose of the present study was to (a) examine the post-secondary transition services that are being utilized by students of differing disability categories, (b) determine if students with emotional and behavioral disabilities receive the same services as their other disabled peers, and (c) investigate if the profession of the participants impacts the services they utilize and the regularity in which they do so. In order to investigate the usage of post-secondary transition services, New Jersey child study team members completed the questionnaire, Post-Secondary Transition and Follow-up Services in Public Education, designed by the principal researcher. A one-way analysis of variance revealed that there was no significant difference between disability groups regarding the amount of services received. Despite this, the data gathered did provide valuable insight into what services students with emotional and behavioral disabilities are receiving most regularly and which services they are not. Additionally, a one-way analysis of variance determined that there was not a significant difference in the amount of services provided by each individual profession. Interpretations of these findings is discussed with regards to the limitations presented by the research design, as well as the information gathered concerning the individual transition services that are utilized by students with emotional and behavioral disabilities

Effect Of The Ketogenic Diet On Seizures In The Methionine Sulfoximine Model Of Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

About two-thirds of patients with one of the most common forms of epilepsy - mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) - cannot control their seizures with current antiepileptic drugs. More efficacious therapies for this disorder are therefore needed. A low carbohydrate, high fat - i.e. ketogenic - diet (KD) is a highly effective treatment for many types of epilepsies; however, whether the diet is effective in reducing seizures in MTLE is relatively unexplored. As a first step towards understanding the role of the KD in MTLE, we investigated whether the diet reduces the frequency and severity of seizures in a novel rat model of this disorder. Thirty-eight male Sprague Dawley rats were implanted with an osmotic pump injecting the glutamine synthetase inhibitor methionine sulfoximine (MSO) into the polymorphic layer of the right hippocampus. Beginning immediately after surgery, the rats were continuously monitored with intracranial EEG and simultaneous video recordings. One week post-surgery, rats were assigned to either a KD with 20% caloric restriction or a standard chow (SC) fed ad libitum and further monitored for another two to four weeks. EEG analysis was correlated with video recordings to determine the frequency and severity of seizures according to a modified Racine scale. There was no significant difference in the weekly frequency of seizures in rats treated with the KD versus SC. Neither was there any difference in the severity of seizures between rats treated with the KD and rats fed SC. These data should be interpreted with caution because animal models of MTLE may respond differently to the KD than humans with the disorder. Also, a lack of significant difference does not rule out the presence of a real, but small difference that cannot be detected due to the statistical power of the present study. Nevertheless, the data suggest that the KD may not be an effective treatment for MTLE

LORD OF THE FLIES - A SCENIC DESIGN

The purpose of this thesis is to provide research, supporting paperwork, production photographs, and other materials that document the scenic design for the co-production between the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and the Nebraska Repertory Theatre titled Lord of the Flies. This thesis contains the following: research images collected to develop and communicate ideas about location, shapes, forms, texture, scale, mood, and historical reference to the production team; preliminary sketches and photographs of the 1/4” scale model, visual tools used to convey the ideas of the scenic design; a full set of drafting plates, 1:1 paint samples and reference images used to communicate the look of each scenic element to the technical director and paint charge; a props list for detailing each prop used in the production; prop/paint research images, used to visually support the information in the prop list; and additional ground plans and paperwork generated during the rehearsal process. Returning Thermal Advantage Instrument’s DSC 2920 and SDT 2960 to Functioning Order

Thermal Advantage (TA) Instruments DSC 2920 and SDT 2960 require a computer running Windows NT 2000 and an Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) expansion card to output and record data. Due to the lack of availability for this older software and hardware, a virtual machine running Windows NT 2000, using Oracle VM VirtualBox as the virtualization software, and a GPIB-USB-SH converter were used to allow a modern computer to interface with the DSC an SDT. The Windows NT virtual machine ran the necessary TA software to communicate with the DSC and SDT and USB pass-through was used to allow the virtual machine to see the instruments via the GPIB-USB-SH converter. Both the DSC and SDT successfully communicated and output data to the modern computer

An economic analysis of alfalfa response to phosphate

The Function of Christ\u27s Suffering in I Peter 2:21

Problem. The phrase because Christ also suffered for you in 1 Peter 2:21b has been interpreted to suggest the vicarious death of Christ. The problem posed by this understanding results from the comparison made between Christ and the slaves who are invited to follow Christ\u27s example. Therefore this study sought to determine the function of Christ\u27s suffering in 1 Peter 2:21b and the nature of the example left to the slaves. Method. The Greek grammar and literary style of the pericope were analyzed; documents that discussed the slave-master relationship in the first centuries B.C. and A.D. were studied; and books, articles, and dissertations on the pericope and the subject of Christ\u27s suffering were examined. Conclusions were reached from this historical, linguists, and theological investigation. Results. The research indicated that the comparison, just as Christ so also the slave, refers to doing good, a Greek term meaning to bring a benefit to someone. Of the five options available to slaves who suffered unjustly in the First Century, enduring unjust punishment rather than running away from it was the only Christian alternative. Thus to submit was a reference to maintain impeccable civic behavior by remaining with cruel master. Such submission is nevertheless doing good and benefits not the masters but the believing community in two ways: (1) The charges of slander and sedition against the church would be reduced and (2) the cohesiveness and solidarity within the church would be maintained. Therefore Christ\u27s suffering (for you) in vs. 21b does not refer to Christ\u27s death but instead promises God\u27s blessing on and acceptance of the one who suffers unjustly and endures for others. Christ\u27s suffering unjustly is the ultimate example to illustrate the concept of suffering for the benefit of others. Conclusion. The call to the slaves was to doing good even if the doing good resulted in unjust suffering. Therefore, there is no basis in 1 Peter 2:21b for the conclusion that the ideal behavior expected of the followers of Christ was martyrdom
