An Approach to Carbon Emissions Prediction Using Generalized Regression Neural Network Improved by Genetic Algorithm
The study on scientific analysis and prediction of China’s future carbonemissions is conducive to balancing the relationship between economicdevelopment and carbon emissions in the new era, and actively respondingto climate change policy. Through the analysis of the application of thegeneralized regression neural network (GRNN) in prediction, this paperimproved the prediction method of GRNN. Genetic algorithm (GA) wasadopted to search the optimal smooth factor as the only factor of GRNN,which was then used for prediction in GRNN. During the prediction of carbon dioxide emissions using the improved method, the increments of datawere taken into account. The target values were obtained after the calculation of the predicted results. Finally, compared with the results of GRNN,the improved method realized higher prediction accuracy. It thus offers anew way of predicting total carbon dioxide emissions, and the predictionresults can provide macroscopic guidance and decision-making referencefor China’s environmental protection and trading of carbon emissions
EL-VIT: Probing Vision Transformer with Interactive Visualization
Nowadays, Vision Transformer (ViT) is widely utilized in various computer
vision tasks, owing to its unique self-attention mechanism. However, the model
architecture of ViT is complex and often challenging to comprehend, leading to
a steep learning curve. ViT developers and users frequently encounter
difficulties in interpreting its inner workings. Therefore, a visualization
system is needed to assist ViT users in understanding its functionality. This
paper introduces EL-VIT, an interactive visual analytics system designed to
probe the Vision Transformer and facilitate a better understanding of its
operations. The system consists of four layers of visualization views. The
first three layers include model overview, knowledge background graph, and
model detail view. These three layers elucidate the operation process of ViT
from three perspectives: the overall model architecture, detailed explanation,
and mathematical operations, enabling users to understand the underlying
principles and the transition process between layers. The fourth interpretation
view helps ViT users and experts gain a deeper understanding by calculating the
cosine similarity between patches. Our two usage scenarios demonstrate the
effectiveness and usability of EL-VIT in helping ViT users understand the
working mechanism of ViT.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, conferenc
Estimation of skin surface roughness in vivo based on optical coherence tomography combined with convolutional neural network
The texture of human skin is influenced by both external and internal factors, and changes in wrinkles can most directly reflect the state of the skin. Skin roughness is primarily used to quantify the wrinkle features of the skin. Therefore, effective and accurate quantification of skin roughness is essential in skincare, medical treatment, and product development. This study proposes a method for estimating the skin surface roughness using optical coherence tomography (OCT) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). The proposed algorithm is validated through a roughness standard plate. Then, the experimental results revealed that skin surface roughness including arithmetic mean roughness and depth of roughness depends on age and gender. The advantage of the proposed method based on OCT is that it can reduce the effect of the skin surface’s natural curvature on roughness. In addition, the method is combined with the epidermal thickness and dermal attenuation coefficient for multi-parameter characterization of skin features. It could be seen as a potential tool for understanding the aging process and developing strategies to maintain and enhance skin health and appearance
Evidence for a Monolayer Excitonic Insulator
The interplay between topology and correlations can generate a variety of
unusual quantum phases, many of which remain to be explored. Recent advances
have identified monolayer WTe2 as a promising material for exploring such
interplay in a highly tunable fashion. The ground state of this two-dimensional
(2D) crystal can be electrostatically tuned from a quantum spin Hall insulator
(QSHI) to a superconductor. However, much remains unknown about the nature of
these ground states, including the gap-opening mechanism of the insulating
state. Here we report systematic studies of the insulating phase in WTe2
monolayer and uncover evidence supporting that the QSHI is also an excitonic
insulator (EI). An EI, arising from the spontaneous formation of electron-hole
bound states (excitons), is a largely unexplored quantum phase to date,
especially when it is topological. Our experiments on high-quality transport
devices reveal the presence of an intrinsic insulating state at the charge
neutrality point (CNP) in clean samples. The state exhibits both a strong
sensitivity to the electric displacement field and a Hall anomaly that are
consistent with the excitonic pairing. We further confirm the correlated nature
of this charge-neutral insulator by tunneling spectroscopy. Our results support
the existence of an EI phase in the clean limit and rule out alternative
scenarios of a band insulator or a localized insulator. These observations lay
the foundation for understanding a new class of correlated insulators with
nontrivial topology and identify monolayer WTe2 as a promising candidate for
exploring quantum phases of ground-state excitons.Comment: 37 pages, 4 Main Figures + 15 SI Figur
Snx27 Deletion Promotes Recovery From Spinal Cord Injury by Neuroprotection and Reduces Macrophage/Microglia Proliferation
Sorting nexin 27 (SNX27) is an endosome-associated cargo adaptor that is involved in various pathologies and development of neurological diseases. However, the role of SNX27 in spinal cord injury (SCI) remains unclear. In this study, we found that SNX27 was up-regulated in injured mice spinal cords by western blot and immunofluorescence. A comparative analysis of Basso mouse scale (BMS), footprint test and corticospinal tract (CST) tracing in Snx27+/+ and Snx27+/− mice revealed that haploinsufficiency of SNX27 ameliorated the clinical symptoms of SCI. Based on the results of western blot and immunofluorescence, mechanistically, we found that SNX27 deficiency suppresses apoptotic caspase-3 induced neuronal death. In addition, SNX27 haploinsufficiency lowers the infiltration and activation of macrophage/microglia by suppressing their proliferation at the SCI lesion site. Together, these results suggest that down-regulation of SNX27 is a potential therapy targeting both acute neuronal death and chronic neuroinflammation, and promoting nerve repair after SCI
The history of Chinese investment in Africa did not last long, but it brings a lot of discussions. Some people think that investment is opaque; some people think that the amount of investment is confusing; some people think that Chinese investment in Africa has provided a lot of help for Africa, and some people believe that this is new. The embodiment of colonialism, this paper describes the sectors and areas in which Chinese investments are going through, and at the same time, depicts loans and debt issues and finally gives some opinions and suggestions

Patterning of Au nanoparticles via secondary phase-separation of large-sized compound micelles of amphiphilic block copolymer
This work contributes to a new protocol of patterning gold nanoparticles (NPs) via secondary phase-separation of micelle template of PS-b-P2VP-b-PEO block copolymer. The immiscibility between hydrophobic PS and hydrophilic P2VP and PEO leads to a bulk phase-separation in large compound micelles (LCMs) when heated at the temperature of 130 degrees C. The bulk-separated template then constitutes an ideal precursor for Au NPs loading by an immersion in an aqueous solution bath of chloroauric acid such that the primed P2VP domains would coordinate to the charged [AuCl4](-) through electrostatic interactions. With the following treatment of air plasma, pseudo-hexagonal nanopatterns are created with Au NPs on P2VP matrix. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
