Enhanced TDMA Based Anti-Collision Algorithm with a Dynamic Frame Size Adjustment Strategy for Mobile RFID Readers
In the fields of production, manufacturing and supply chain management, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is regarded as one of the most important technologies. Nowadays, Mobile RFID, which is often installed in carts or forklift trucks, is increasingly being applied to the search for and checkout of items in warehouses, supermarkets, libraries and other industrial fields. In using Mobile RFID, since the readers are continuously moving, they can interfere with each other when they attempt to read the tags. In this study, we suggest a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) based anti-collision algorithm for Mobile RFID readers. Our algorithm automatically adjusts the frame size of each reader without using manual parameters by adopting the dynamic frame size adjustment strategy when collisions occur at a reader. Through experiments on a simulated environment for Mobile RFID readers, we show that the proposed method improves the number of successful transmissions by about 228% on average, compared with Colorwave, a representative TDMA based anti-collision algorithm
Comparison of Quality Traits of Meat from Korean Native Chickens and Broilers Used in Two Different Traditional Korean Cuisines
With the aim of investigating the differences in the quality traits between Korean native chicken (Hanhyup, KNC) and broilers commonly used in two different traditional Korean cuisines, the chemical composition and sensory properties of breast and thigh meat from the two chicken strains were assessed. KNC for baeksuk (chicken meat braised in soup with various Oriental medicinal plants; KNL), KNC for samgyetang (similar to baeksuk but young chickens and ginseng are used; KNS), broiler for baeksuk (BL), and broiler for samgyetang (BS) were used as treatments in this study. KNL and KNS contained higher protein but lower fat content than BL and BS. The L* values of breast and thigh meat, but not the a* values, were significantly different between KNS and BS, whereas significant differences in both values were observed between KNL and BL. Compared to the other three types of chickens, KNS contained the highest total and insoluble collagen content, and KNL and BL showed higher inosine-5’-monophosphate content in their meat. Overall, KNL and KNS contributed darker, less tender meat with higher protein and less fat content together with more n-3 fatty acids, as opposed to their counterparts used for the same cuisines. Based on the results of the sensory analysis, even though there are some differences in physiochemical traits, different chicken sources do not differ in overall sensory quality. This information can help consumers to understand better the meat available for their preferred traditional cuisines
Development of a Novel Intraoperative Neuromonitoring System Using a Surface Pressure Sensor to Detect Muscle Movement: A Rabbit Model Study
Objectives False-negative or false-positive responses in intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) using electromyography (EMG) in thyroid surgery pose a challenge. Therefore, we developed a novel IONM system that uses a surface pressure sensor instead of EMG to detect muscle twitching. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and safety of a new IONM system using a piezo-electric surface pressure sensor in an experimental animal model. Methods We developed the surface pressure sensor by modifying a commercial piezo-electric sensor. We evaluated the stimulus thresholds to detect muscle movement, as well as the amplitude and latency of the EMG and surface pressure sensor in six sciatic nerves of three rabbits, according to the stimulus intensity. Results The surface pressure sensor detected the muscle movements in response to a 0.1 mA stimulation of all six sciatic nerves. There were no differences in the thresholds of stimulus intensity between the surface pressure sensor and EMG recordings to detect muscle movements. Conclusion It is possible to measure the change in surface pressure by using a piezo-electric surface pressure sensor instead of EMG to detect muscle movement induced by nerve stimulation. The application of IONM using a piezo-electric surface pressure sensor during surgery is noninvasive, safe, and feasible. Measuring muscle twitching to identify the state of the nerves using the novel IONM system can be an alternative to recording of EMG responses

Towards Aircraft Maintenance Metaverse Using Speech Interactions with Virtual Objects in Mixed Reality
Metaverses embedded in our lives create virtual experiences inside of the physical world. Moving towards metaverses in aircraft maintenance, mixed reality (MR) creates enormous opportunities for the interaction with virtual airplanes (digital twin) that deliver a near-real experience, keeping physical distancing during pandemics. 3D twins of modern machines exported to MR can be easily manipulated, shared, and updated, which creates colossal benefits for aviation colleges who still exploit retired models for practicing. Therefore, we propose mixed reality education and training of aircraft maintenance for Boeing 737 in smart glasses, enhanced with a deep learning speech interaction module for trainee engineers to control virtual assets and workflow using speech commands, enabling them to operate with both hands. With the use of the convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture for audio features and learning and classification parts for commands and language identification, the speech module handles intermixed requests in English and Korean languages, giving corresponding feedback. Evaluation with test data showed high accuracy of prediction, having on average 95.7% and 99.6% on the F1-Score metric for command and language prediction, respectively. The proposed speech interaction module in the aircraft maintenance metaverse further improved education and training, giving intuitive and efficient control over the operation, enhancing interaction with virtual objects in mixed reality
Semantic Outlier Analysis for Sessionizing Web Logs
Abstract. As the web usage patterns from clients are getting more complex, simple sessionizations based on time and navigation-oriented heuristics have been restricted to exploit various kinds of rule discoverying methods. In this paper, we present semantic session reconstruction based on semantic outliers from web log data. Above all, web directory service such as Yahoo is applied to enrich semantics to web logs, as categorizing them to all possible hierarchical paths. In order to detect the candidate set of session identifiers, semantic factors like semantic mean, deviation, and distance matrix are established. Eventually, each semantic session is obtained based on nested repetition of top-down partitioning and evaluation process. For experiment, we applied this ontologyoriented heuristics to sessionize the access log files for one week from IRCache. Compared with time-oriented heuristics, more than 48 % of sessions were additionally detected by semantic outlier analysis. It means that we can conceptually track the behavior of users tending to easily change their intentions and interests, or simultaneously try to search various kinds of information on the web.
BlogGrid: towards an efficient information pushing service on blogspaces
jung2005aInternational audienceWith increasing concerns about the personalized information space, users have been posting various types of information on their own blogs. Due to the domain-specific properties of blogging systems, however, searching relevant information is too difficult. In this paper, we focus on analyzing the user behaviors on blogspace, so that the channel between two similar users can be virtually generated. Eventually, social grid environment can be constructed on blog organization. We therefore propose a BlogGrid framework to provide the information pushing service without any user intervention
