    The aim of this investigation is to develop a three-dimensional filial piety scale and explore its psychometric properties. Two studies are conducted based on Wang’s three-dimensional filial piety model. Study 1 consists of a review of the current literature, in-depth interviews, and feedback from the target group and experts. An initial 36-item scale using a bipolar Likert 6-point rating scale is developed. Then exploratory factor analysis is conducted on working adults (n = 617) to explore the dimensions and final items, and a 15-item scale with three factors is obtained. Study 2 confirms the factor structure of the new three-factor scale obtained from Study 1 using a confirmatory factor analysis with sample 1 (n = 585). Next, the criterion validity is tested with sample 2 (n = 248) and test–retest reliability with sample 3 (n = 67). The results support the model on which this scale is based and show three dimensions of filial piety, namely the balance of interests, good affection, and family role norms. As a valid, reliable scale, the three-dimensional filial piety scale can therefore be used in the Chinese context to measure filial piety for working adults of different genders and ages and in different cohabitation situations.</p

    Solomon’s paradox is a widespread phenomenon regarding how we think, which asserts that people reason more wisely about other people’s social problems than they do about their own. This means that we are more likely to make rational decisions when decision-making on the behalf of others than for ourselves, which has practical implications in the field of interpersonal conflicts and social dilemmas. However, it remains unclear whether Solomon’s paradox exists across cultures, and the magnitude of its effect size. A meta-analysis was conducted, examining six studies and 20 effect sizes, to gain more insight into this phenomenon, considering the influencing effects of culture, measurement instrument, conflict type, and some other moderating factors. The results showed that Solomon’s paradox does exist in interpersonal conflict (d = 0.317; 95% CI = 0.828–0.852). Moderator analysis revealed that measurement instrument and subjects had an impact on the effect of Solomon’s paradox and there was a non-significant effect size of culture and conflict type. Future research should explore the diverse forms of Solomon’s paradox across more diverse cultural contexts (e.g., various countries) to better understand the phenomenon and help people cope with life’s problems more wisely.</p

    Imaging the Complex-Forming Reaction Dynamics in Al + CO<sub>2</sub> → AlO + CO

    For indirect reactions involving more than one intermediate complex from reactant valley to product valley, the reaction dynamics becomes very complicated for researchers due to competition between pathways. In order to resolve the large discrepancy between theoretical and experimental studies on the linear or bent structures of complexes involved in the title endothermic reaction, we performed a crossed-beam experiment at a large collision energy (Ec) range with mapping of the velocity distributions of Al reactants and AlO products. We found that the reaction proceeds through different complex-forming mechanisms with the increase of Ec: at low Ec near the reaction threshold, only low impact-parameter collisions contribute through a collinear Al–OCO short-lived complex, and at high Ec, the bent-structure complexes, formed by either isomerization or noncollinear collisions, come into play

    A key challenge for the effective treatment of intestinal diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), is to develop an oral drug delivery system that can resist gastric acid erosion and efficiently release drugs after rapid entry into the intestine. In the present work, we developed oral composite nanoparticles (MSZ@PRHS) consisting of a rough mesoporous silica (RHS) loaded with Mesalazine (MSZ) and a CAP polymer membrane for targeted relief of inflammation in colitis. At the pH values of the simulated stomach and small intestine, the release rate of MSZ from MSZ@PRHS was low, while at the pH values of the simulated colon, the release rate of MSZ was high. In dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS)-induced acute colitis mouse model, compared with oral administration of the drug Mesalazine in the equivalent solution form, oral administration of PRHS loaded with drug-loaded nanoparticles can significantly alleviate the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease, and improve the therapeutic effect. We propose that the intestinal microenvironment provides an interface for nanocomposites switch and a promising drug delivery platform for the management and treatment of many intestinal diseases, where controlled drug release and prolonged residence time are required.</p

    Correlation Study of the Spin–Orbit State-Resolved Scattering of Al(<sup>2</sup>P) in Oxidation Reaction and Nonreactive Collision

    Spin–orbit coupling plays an important role in chemical reactivity, especially in reactions that require the change of electron spin states. However, it is difficult to measure and analyze the reaction dynamics between spin–orbit splitting states, particularly for splitting states with a small energy difference. In this study, we find that nonreactive scattering of spin–orbit splitting states can provide complementary information that is overlooked in chemical reaction studies. Here, the oxidation reactivities of spin–orbit Al(2P1/2,3/2) states with small energy difference of 112 cm–1 are clearly distinguished in the high rotational AlO(v = 0 and 1, N) products at low collision energy of 507 cm–1 using a laser ablation crossed-beam and time-sliced ion velocity mapping technique, in conjunction with state-selected nonreactive scattering studies. For both the AlO(v = 0 and 1) channels, the spin–orbit relative reactivity σ3/2/σ1/2 increases with the increase of rotational level N of AlO products. However, for AlO(v = 0), the reactivity of the Al(2P3/2) excited state is consistently lower than that of the Al(2P1/2) ground state, whereas for AlO(v = 1), the reactivity of Al(2P3/2) is higher than that of Al(2P1/2) at a higher rotational state. The relative reactivity of spin–orbit split Al(2P) states at different scattering angles shows a more pronounced enhancement of forward scattering relative to side and backward scattering for Al(2P3/2) when a higher rotationally excited AlO is produced. Nonreactive scattering studies of Al(2P) suggest that the Al(2P3/2) state is deexcited to the ground Al(2P1/2) state at the sideways and backward scattering directions, and the deexcitation is supposed to reduce the reactivity of the excited Al(2P3/2) at the corresponding direction
