    Nutrient adequacy of elderly in Guna Budi Bakti Nursing Home: a pilot study in Medan City-Indonesia

    Health condition in the elderly is determined by the quality and quantity of food and nutrient being consumed. However, the nutrient adequacy among elderly people at nursing home in Indonesia has rarely been investigated. Therefore, a cross sectional study was conducted to determine nutrient adequacy in Guna Budi Bakti nursing home in the city of Medan. Elderly food intake was assessed by three days food weighing method and compared to the Indonesian Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). Energy intake reached >100% of RDA. Although the majority of subject able to meet 70% of RDA for protein and vitamin A, a proportion of subject could not meet the recommendation of protein (26.6%) and vitamin A (28.3%).     Rumah tangga ketika mampu dalam pemenuhan akan pangan, baik dari sisi kuantitas, kualitas, ataupun jenisnya berdasarkan kondisi kebudayaan di tempat tersebut disebut ketahanan pangan dalam rumah tangga. Jika hal tersebut yang tidak tercukupi bisa mengakibatkan pemenuhan makanan menurun serta akan menyebabkan status gizi orang tersebut terganggu. Salah satu masalah gizi yang dijumpai di Kecamatan Pandan, Tapanuli Tengah, adalah masalah stunting yaitu ditemukan 5 balita sangat pendek (13,19%) dan 31 balita (86,1%) pendek. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan pendapatan dan pengetahuan ibu mengenai gizi dengan ketahanan pangan keluarga di wilayah pesisir Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survei dengan desain penelitian cross sectional. Jumlah sampel pada penelitian ini yaitu 136 keluarga dengan balita stunting. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah teknik multistage sampling, dan uji statistik menggunakan uji chi – square. Hasil penelitian memperoleh bahwa ada hubungan antara pendapatan dengan ketahanan pangan keluarga (p value = 0,005 < α), dan ada hubungan pengetahuan gizi ibu dengan ketahanan pangan keluarga (p-value = 0,037 < α). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendapatan dan pengetahuan gizi ibu memiliki hubungan signifikan dengan ketahanan pangan keluarga di wilayah pesisir Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah

    Energy and Protein Consumption of Manggadong Rice as Local Wisdom and Effort of Staple Food Diversification

    Carbohydrates as one of the macro nutrients have significant role in the food pattern in which 60-70% of the recommended energy requirement comes from carbohydrates, and generally being a staple food. It is unfortunate that almost all people in Indonesia have made rice as the main source of carbohydrates and became a staple food. This situation affects the high dependence on rice. This study aims to modify manggadong as local wisdom into manggadong rice that is rice mixed with 4 types of cassava flour in cooking rice and analyze energy consumption and protein from manggadong rice. Intervention has 100 mothers as a sample. The results showed that the consumption of energy and protein manggadong rice of 4 types of cassava are arround 691 kcal - 729 kcal and 12.7 to 12.9 g. Manggadong rice consumption can reduce the consumption of energy and protein than rice without cassava flour. It recommended socialization of manggadong rice in society in order to be applied in staple food consumption to support food diversification program as an effort to create a household food security.     Pre-test Assessment of SOSA Bottle Intervention’s Effectivity to Reduce Tuberculosis Spreading in Prisons

    BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is still a health problem in the world, especially in Indonesia, TB still causes serious transmission, including in prison. The Sorimuda-Syarifah (SOSA) bottle, a bottle containing lysol, has been tested in the community and has given satisfactory results. Prison inmates and TB patients in prison urgently need better treatment in an effort to prevent the spread of TB and support its treatment. AIM: This paper is the result of the pre-test, to assess the demographic profile and behavior of the respondents, before giving SOSA bottles. METHODS: The study was conducted using a questionnaire and was carried out on 27 prisoners in two separate locations in North Sumatra. RESULTS: The demographic profiles of respondents were not much different, both in the intervention group and in the non-intervention group. After statistical tests were carried out, only knowledge was statistically significant. There are still a lot of knowledge, attitudes, and practice of respondents that support the spread of TB in prison. CONCLUSION: The pre-test results indicate the need to implement the SOSA bottle in prisons

    Kepatuhan ibu hamil dalam mengonsumsi tablet Fe di Poli Kebidanan RSU Mitra Medika Medan

    Tablet Fe adalah suatu suplemen penambah darah yang sangat dibutuhkan oleh ibu hamil guna mencegah terjadinya anemia selama kehamilan. Berdasarkan catatan kunjungan ibu hamil di RSU Mitra Medika Medan dari bulan Januari sampai Desember 2017 terdapat sebanyak 862 kunjungan. Ibu yang berkunjung ke Poli Kebidanan pada umumnya mengalami anemia (27%), padahal petugas di Puskesmas dan rumah sakit selalu memberikan tablet Fe pada ibu hamil yang berkunjung. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kepatuhan ibu hamil dalam mengosumsi tablet Fe di Poli Kebidanan RSU Mitra Medika Medan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah survei analitik, dengan pendekatan cross-sectional study. Populasi dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 123 orang dan yang diambil sebagai sampel penelitian dengan teknik accidental sampling sebanyak 62 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variabel yang memiliki hubungan terhadap kepatuhan ibu hamil dalam mengonsumsi tablet Fe di Poli Kebidanan RSU Mitra Medika Medan yaitu pengetahuan, dukungan suami, penyuluhan Fe, ketersediaan Fe, kepercayaan, dan sikap. Dari analisis regresi logistik diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa penyuluhan (p=0,021) merupakan variabel yang paling berpengaruh terhadap kepatuhan ibu mengonsumsi tablet Fe

    This study aims to determine the relationship between feeding practices and health practices for under-five children with malnutrition in Sekip Village, Lubuk Pakam District, Deli Serdang Regency. This study used a cross-sectional approach with a sample size of 100 respondents. Sampling was done using cluster technique and simple random technique (roll of paper). The resulting data were analyzed univariate and bivariate using the chi-square test (α = 0.05). The results showed that under-fives who experienced malnutrition were 34%. Simultaneously, mothers' feeding practices and health practices to children under-five were partly categorized as bad, namely 56 people (56%) and 54 people (54%). In conclusion, there is a relationship between feeding practices and health practices on undernutrition in children under-five. Keywords: Toddler, Malnutrition, Health Practices, Feeding Practice

    The Associations between Maternal Education, Chronic Energy Deficit, and Anemia in Pregnant Women: An Evidence from Lhokseumawe, Indonesia

    Background: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) and anemia in pregnant women have a health impact on the mother and child in the womb. This condition can increase the risk of babies with low birth weight, miscarriage, premature birth, even death in mothers and newborns. This study aims to determine the relationship between CED and anemia in pregnant women at the Muara I Health Center in Lhokseumawe City in 2017.Subjects and Method: This study was a cross-sectional study conducted at the Muara I Community Health Center, Lhokseumawe, in December 2017. A sample of 90 pregnant women was selected by consecutive sampling. The dependent variable was the anemia of pregnant women. The independent variables were education and CED. CED was measured based on maternal mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) during pregnancy using MUAC tape. The hemoglobin level was measured by Hb Sahli. Other data were measured using a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression tests.Results: CED has a significant positive and statistically significant effect on anemia in pregnant women (OR = 64.34; 95% CI = 15.10 to 274.10; p <0.001). Low maternal education has a positive effect but was statistically significant towards anemia in pregnant women (OR = 3.15; 95% CI = 0.81 to 12.27; p = 0.099).Conclusion: CED and low maternal education have a positive effect on anemia in pregnant women.Keywords: anemia, pregnant women, education, chronic lack of energyCorrespondence: Helliyana, Masters Program in Public Health, Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Jl.     The Relationship of Food Consumption and Nutritional Status on Employee of Health Polytechnic Directorate Health Ministry Medan

    The increasing prevalence of overweight can be seen from the people who are overweight and obesity. North Sumatera is one of the provinces which has the higher prevalence of overweight and obesity than the national rate at 13% and 18.1%. One of the factors associated with overweight and obesity is food consumption. Poor dietary habbit, which is low in fiber and high in fat, can lead to weight gain. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of dietary habbit to nutritional status. The research used cross sectional design. The sample were 70 employee of Health Polytechnic Directorate, Health Ministry of Medan and taken by using total sampling technique. The measured factors were carbohydrate and fat intake, the type of food and nutritional status. The data were obtained based on the interviews using food recall, FFQ and questionnaires and measurement of IMT. Data were analyzed using chi square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between the adequate intake of carbohydrates (p = &lt;0.001) and adequate intake of fat (p = 0.022) to nutritional status while the type of food consumed does not show relationship to nutritional status.
