An empirical characterization of mortgage default in Colombia between 1997 and 2004

This paper examines the relationship between mortgage default decisions and relevant observable variables under the light of a random utility model. The focus of the study is the Colombian mortgage market between 1997 and 2004 using two separate data sets that are matched using simulation techniques. The estimation allows the computation of mortgage default probabilities that are directly related to an underlying model of optimal default. Results are sharp and indicate that variation in current income has little effect on mortgage default, compared to housing prices and mortgage balances.D4; G21; L13; R12 Classification JEL: Banking; Location; Competition; Colombia.

Indexación: Web of Science, Scielo. The microdot method is a downscaling methodology of traditional tenfold serial dilution procedure used in microbiology. The microdot method uses 100 mu L for serial dilution and count colonies in a spot of 10 mu L. In this study we counted colonies directly in a chromogenic agar plate to determine, at the same time, the presence and cell concentration of target bacteria required for sanitary monitoring of Chilean export fishery products. Due to among importers countries the most concerning bacteria included in sanitary monitoring are Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus, we used the chromogenic agar; CHROMagar ECC, CHROMagar Listeria and Baird Parker agar, respectively. The results shows no differences between quantitative results obtained with microdot and traditional method during the quantification of a culture of Escherichia coli (1.5 L). The sensitivity and specificity of the microdot method in association with each chromogenic agar was demonstrated in vitro with reference strains. In addition, the usefulness in sanitary monitoring of aquaculture procedures was evaluated in Artemia salina tanks. This method did not detected sanitary problems in surface water. Although other colonies grown in the chromogenic agar plate, their morphological and chromogenic properties not correspond to Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus, being identified as Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica, Microbacterium sp., Bacillus sp. and Staphylococcus pasteuri by 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. Hence, we propose the microdot chromogenic method as a low cost, specific and reliable procedure for sanitary monitoring of aquaculture procedures.

The k-metric dimension of a graph

As a generalization of the concept of a metric basis, this article introduces the notion of kk-metric basis in graphs. Given a connected graph G=(V,E)G=(V,E), a set SVS\subseteq V is said to be a kk-metric generator for GG if the elements of any pair of different vertices of GG are distinguished by at least kk elements of SS, i.e., for any two different vertices u,vVu,v\in V, there exist at least kk vertices w1,w2,...,wkSw_1,w_2,...,w_k\in S such that dG(u,wi)dG(v,wi)d_G(u,w_i)\ne d_G(v,w_i) for every i{1,...,k}i\in \{1,...,k\}. A metric generator of minimum cardinality is called a kk-metric basis and its cardinality the kk-metric dimension of GG. A connected graph GG is kk-metric dimensional if kk is the largest integer such that there exists a kk-metric basis for GG. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a graph to be kk-metric dimensional and we obtain several results on the kk-metric dimension

Simultaneous Resolvability in Families of Corona Product Graphs

Let G{\cal G} be a graph family defined on a common vertex set VV and let dd be a distance defined on every graph GGG\in {\cal G}. A set SVS\subset V is said to be a simultaneous metric generator for G{\cal G} if for every GGG\in {\cal G} and every pair of different vertices u,vVu,v\in V there exists sSs\in S such that d(s,u)d(s,v)d(s,u)\ne d(s,v). The simultaneous metric dimension of G{\cal G} is the smallest integer kk such that there is a simultaneous metric generator for G{\cal G} of cardinality kk. We study the simultaneous metric dimension of families composed by corona product graphs. Specifically, we focus on the case of two particular distances defined on every GGG\in {\cal G}, namely, the geodesic distance dGd_G and the distance dG,2:V×VN{0}d_{G,2}:V\times V\rightarrow \mathbb{N}\cup \{0\} defined as dG,2(x,y)=min{dG(x,y),2}d_{G,2}(x,y)=\min\{d_{G}(x,y),2\}.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1504.0049

    Viscosity near phase transitions

Probably the most enticing observation in theoretical physics during the last decade was the discovery of the great amount of consequences obtained from the AdS/CFT conjecture put forward by Maldacena. In this work we review how this correspondence can be used to address hydrodynamic properties such as the viscosity of some strongly interacting systems. We also employ the Boltzmann equation for those systems closer to low-energy QCD, and argue that this kind of transport coefficients can be related to phase transitions, in particular the QGP/hadronic phase transition studied in heavy ion collisions.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure.
