THE PROCESS OF STUDENT COGNITION IN CONSTRUCTING MATHEMATICAL CONJECTURE
This research aims to describe the process of student cognition in constructing mathematical conjecture. Many researchers have studied this process but without giving a detailed explanation of how students understand the information to construct a mathematical conjecture. The researchers focus their analysis on how to construct and prove the conjecture. This article discusses the process of student cognition in constructing mathematical conjecture from the very beginning of the process. The process is studied through qualitative research involving six students from the Mathematics Education Department in the Ganesha University of Education. The process of student cognition in constructing mathematical conjecture is grouped into five different stages. The stages consist of understanding the problem, exploring the problem, formulating conjecture, justifying conjecture, and proving conjecture. Profile of Mathematics Education Students’ Understanding with Moderate Mathematics Ability in the Aspect of Dissection of Group
One aspect that can be used to identify the completeness of the students’ understanding to a concept is by doing dissection to the concept. This is a case study on the students of mathematics education who had moderate ability, and the objective was to obtain the profile of students’ understanding towards group concept on the aspect of dissection. The students’ understanding to the concept is needed very much to build foundation for understanding to other concepts in abstract algebra. Based on the result of the study, it was obtained that although the dominant elements that build the concept of group can be identified well but qualitatively the understanding of the students who have moderate ability in mathematics to the group concept is still weak. One of the causes is the mathematics logic as an instrument in managing information in group concept is not used accurately and tightly

Profil Proses Berpikir Mahasiswa Tipe Kepribadian Sensing dalam Memecahkan Masalah Logika Matematika
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil proses berpikir mahasiswa dengan tipe kepribadian Sensing, yang terdiri atas Artisan dan Guardian, dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika. Pengenalan terhadap profil berpikir mahasiswa penting diketahui oleh pengajar, karenamelalui pengenalan tersebut, pengajar dapat mengembangkan model pembelajaran yang sesuai pada masing-masing tipe
kepribadian sehingga proses pembelajaran dapat dicapai secara optimal. Mengenai tipe kepribadian, David Keirsey membagi menjadi tipe Sensing dan Intuisi. Pada penelitian ini, akan dibicarakan tipe Sensing, yang terbagi menjadi tipe Artisan dan Guardian. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa jurusan Sistem Informasi sebuah perguruan tinggi di Surabaya. ANALISIS PENYELESAIAN TUGAS PROBABILITAS SISANALISIS PENYELESAIAN TUGAS PROBABILITAS SISWA SD DITINJAU DARI PERBEDAAN KEMAMPUAN MATEMATIKA DAN GENDER
This study is aimed to analyze probabilistic thinking of elementary school students based on math ability and gender differences. Descriptive explorative approach was used to describe in depth probabilistic thinking of boys with high, middle, low math ability and girls with high, middle, low math ability. The result showed that probabilistic thinking of boy with high math ability indicated multistructural because his thinking quantitative and proportional. While probabilistic thinking of boys with middle, low math ability and girls with high, middle, low math ability indicated unistructural because their thinking quantitative and non proportional. Beside that, boys’ thinking in solving probability tasks was more analytical and flexible than girls’ thinking. So, students with math ability difference, gave difference response in solving probability tasks. This result found new strategy in solving probability comparison task. This result could contribute to curriculum developer to introduce probability in elementary school level and teachers could use discussion method in teaching probability material
Cognition Processes of ASD Students: Recommendations for Mathematics Teaching and Learning Process
This study aims to describe the cognitive process of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) students in solving mathematical problems in order to provide recommendations towards ensuring an appropriate learning process. It was conducted qualitatively using three ASD students in senior high school in Indonesia with high, moderate, and low intelligence. The student with high intelligence was able to receive and recall all the information in 4 forms, determine patterns, recall relevant information, make generalizations from patterns using two approaches in order to discover general formulas, and compare the general formula with other formulas. Meanwhile, the moderate intelligence student was able to receive and recall all information in two forms, determine patterns using image representation and concrete media, recall relevant information, and understand the pattern but unable to make generalizations towards obtaining a general formula due to the inability to understand the meaning of symbols. Moreover, low intelligence student was able to receive and recall a small piece of information in one form of representation, unable to determine the pattern because the subject was only able to understand qualitative information and unable to discover general formulas, and experienced difficulty in recalling relevant information

Mengenai tipe kepribadian, David Keirsey membagi menjadi tipe Sensing dan Intuisi. Pada penelitian ini, akan dibicarakan tipe Sensing, yang terbagi menjadi tipe Artisan dan Guardian. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa jurusan Sistem Informasi sebuah perguruan tinggi di Surabaya. Metode yang digunakan  adalah metode kualitatif eksploratif dimana subjek diminta untuk memecahkan masalah matematika menggunakan langkah heuristik dari Polya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa profil proses berpikir mahasiswa dengan tipe Guardian lebih detail dan spesifik dalam memecahkan masalah matematika daripada tipe Artisan, yang lebih mengutamakan persoalan yang harus diselesaikan.

THINKING PROCESS PROFILE OF SENSING STUDENTS’ PERSONALITY TYPE IN SOLVING MATHEMATICAL PROBLEMS

ABSTRACT. The study was aimed  to understand the thinking process profile of Artisan and Guardian students in solving mathematical problem. The importance of thinking process profile,  an instructor can develop appropriate learning model for each personality type. So, the learning process can be optimized. The personality type is divided, by David Keirsey, into two types, Sensing and Intuition. In this research will be studied about Sensing type, which is divided into two, Artisan and Guardian. The subjects were students of Information Systems at a college in Surabaya. The used methods in this research is eksploratif qualitative method. This study is also using Polya for the step of mathematical problem solving, in order to get more knowledge about thinking process profile. The result shows that Guardian is more detail and more specific than Artisan ,  who is prioritize to finish the problem, in solve mathematical problems.

Perbedaan Profil Pemecahan Masalah Peraih Medali OSN Matematika Berdasarkan Jenis Kelamin
Abstract: Differences of Problem Solving Competences of OSN Mathematics Medal Winners by Sex. This study was carried out to explore whether different sexes influence the performances of OSN Mathematics Medal Winners . T wo subjects, namely MF ( female) and YB ( male), were selected and as signed to solve two mathematical problems. The subjects’ p rofiles were obtained from in - depth inte rviews. The data indicate that there are differences in problem-solving profiles of the female and the male subjects, revealed in what they think and do when solving the mathematical problems and in the order of how they solve the problems. The order reflects the stages of Polya, and the differences observed seem to be caused by the different scheme of solving problems.
Abstrak: Perbedaan Profil Pemecahan Masalah Peraih Medali OSN Matematika Berdasarkan Jenis Kelamin. Dalam rangka melengkapi teori- teori mengenai perbedaan gender, peneliti melakukan penelitian dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan profil pemecahan masalah antara peraih medali OSN yang berjenis kelamin laki-laki dan perempuan. Untuk itu, peneliti memilih dua subjek yaitu MF (perempuan) dan YB (laki- laki) serta mengembangkan dua masalah matematika. Profil diperoleh dengan melakukan wawancara mendalam menggunakan masalah-masalah tersebut. Hasilnya adalah ada perbedaan profil pemecahan masalah antara laki-laki dan perempuan. Perbedaan tersebut tampak pada apa yang mereka pikirkan dan lakukan ketika memecahkan masalah dan urutan pemecahan masalahnya. Urutan itu didasarkanpada tahap- tahap Polya. Perbedaan tersebut lebih disebabkan oleh perbedaan skema pemecahan masalah
