Performance of export-oriented small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Viet Nam

    Get PDF
The study recommends the formulation of policies that support the development of business linkages and networking, and which promote subcontracting arrangements between small and large enterprises or between domestic firms and foreign investment enterprises. It is also necessary to support and facilitate the direct involvement of SMMEs in exporting or indirectly through large manufacturing enterprises.Export-oriented, SME,SMME, Viet Nam

    Mass-imbalance induced metal-insulator transition in a three-component Hubbard model

The effects of mass imbalance in a three-component Hubbard model are studied by the dynamical mean-field theory combined with exact diagonalization. The model describes a fermion-fermion mixture of two different particle species with a mass imbalance. One species is two-component fermion particles, and the other is single-component ones. The local interaction between particle species is considered isotropically. It is found that the mass imbalance can drive the mixture from insulator to metal. The insulator-metal transition is a species-selective-like transition of lighter mass particles and occurs only at commensurate particle densities and moderate local interactions. For weak and strong local interactions the mass imbalance does not change the ground state of the mixture

Cleaner production among multinational corporations in Southeast Asia

Cleaner Production (CP) represents the change from a conventional end-of-pipe treatment attitude to a proactive approach to pollution prevention and increased production efficiency. CP has been successfully implemented in developing countries, including the countries of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN is becoming an economic development center in Asia, attracting a large amount of foreign direct investments from multinational corporations during the last two decades. However, success in economic development has been accompanied by environmental problems. Understanding the level of CP practices among ASEAN\u27s multinational corporations (MNCs) and National Cleaner Production Centers/Cleaner Production (NCPCs/CP) organizations is important to their development and for the environmental protection strategy of the region. This graduate thesis is developed with the aim of determining (1) MNCs\u27 effectiveness in adopting and implementing CP practices within the ASEAN region, (2) the interaction of regional CP centers with MNCs, and (3) knowledge gained through MNCs\u27 CP practices and information dissemination among local industries. Four surveys were developed to collect information from: MNCs operating within the ASEAN region; NCPCs/CP organizations; United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) /United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); and Stakeholders (in the U.S. and Southeast Asia). Findings of the thesis include: 1. With its worldwide influence on CP practices, UNEP and UNIDO obtain success in promoting CP practices in ASEAN and other developing countries through the NCPC and CP programs. Nevertheless, limited funding and obstacles associated with the host political, economic, and cultural characteristics present major challenges of the initiative. 2. The NCPCs/CP organizations\u27 priorities are more focused on local industries than MNCs. They face funding obstacles, are obligated to improve and expand their activities to gain more credibility among industries, strive for legislative support from the governments in order to ensure an effective operation, and seek to be financially independent as consulting firms without external funding. 3. The interaction between MNCs and NCPCs/CP organizations in the region is limited even though NCPCs/CP organizations play a key role in promoting and developing CP in their countries as well as the region. 4. The lack of communication among MNCs and their stakeholders results in skeptical attitudes about whether MNCs carry out effective CP practices. However, some of the MNCs are implementing CP practices as part of their corporations\u27 environmental policy. 5. Governments play a key role in successful CP adoption and implementation in the region. Incentives based on governments\u27 development strategy and market needs could drive public awareness and the institutionalization of CP not only in MNCs but also in local industries and other sectors of the society. The thesis results address the initial goals of understanding MNCs\u27 effectiveness in adopting and implementing CP practices within the ASEAN region and MNC interactions with regional CP centers. However, the responses were not sufficient to provide knowledge about MNCs\u27 CP practices and information dissemination with local industries

Power beacon-assisted energy harvesting in a half-duplex communication network under co-channel interference over a Rayleigh fading environment: Energy efficiency and outage probability analysis

    Get PDF
In this time, energy efficiency (EE), measured in bits per Watt, has been considered as an important emerging metric in energy-constrained wireless communication networks because of their energy shortage. In this paper, we investigate power beacon assisted (PB) energy harvesting (EH) in half-duplex (HD) communication network under co-channel Interferer over Rayleigh fading environment. In this work, we investigate the model system with the time switching (TS) protocol. Firstly, the exact and asymptotic form expressions of the outage probability (OP) are analyzed and derived. Then the system EE is investigated and the influence of the primary system parameters on the system performance. Finally, we verify the correctness of the analytical expressions using Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, we can state that the simulation and analytical results are the same.Web of Science1213art. no. 257

Parameter Identification Method for a 3-phase Induction Heating System

    Get PDF
This paper describes a new method for the on-line parameter estimation of an induction heating system. Simulations and experiments are presented in order to measure its impedance matrix for more exact control in closed loop. In previous papers, various parameter identification methods including off-line methods were introduced and compared for current inverters. It has been demonstrated that parameter identification is necessary to achieve good control of the inductor currents. A “pseudo-energy” method for a simple and fast implementation is compared to a classical “V/I with phase shift” method. They are experienced on a reduced power 3-phase coupled resonant system supplied with voltage inverters with satisfying results

Characterization of pig farms in Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Bac Ninh provinces

peer reviewedIn order to characterization of pig farms in the Red River Delta, a study was conducted on 90 pig farms in Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Bac Ninh provinces from June to December 2006. Results show that most of the pig farms had been built for five years with a small size (0.5 hectare per farm). The invested capital was about 300-400 millions VND per farm. Four main sow groups used in the farms included crossbred exotic sows (51.1%), crossbred sow between local and exotic breeds (14.4%), purebred Landrace and Yorkshire breeds (15.6 and 18.9%, respectively). The boars were various (Duroc 30%, Yorkshire 21%, Landrace 13%, PiÐtrain × Duroc 36% and others). The pigs farms were faced with several difficulties such as limited land, lack of invested capital, uncontrolled quality of breeding pigs, high costs of feed, poor hygiene condition and diseases
