Densely Integrated Photonic Devices based on Microring Resonators in Access Networks
The application of optical fibers has led to virtually lossless point to point data links in the core network with practically unlimited bandwidth. In response to increasing bandwidth demands of consumers the optical techniques employed in these networks are now gradually extended towards the consumers premises. At the access network level, where equipment is shared by a few users at the most, cost is the major issue. In addition the demand of optical transparency at the nodes and hubs, excluding conversion between the optical and electrical domains, results in a high degree of complexity of the devices. Fortunately, through the use of flexible WDM bandwidth allocation schemes that provide bandwidth where needed, and cheap mass-produced densely integrated optical components, the cost can be reduced significantly. Promising building blocks in these components are Microring Resonators (MRs) built using high refractive index waveguides which can be used to create densely integrated wavelength filters as well as more complex functionality.\ud
In this work we present a 1x4 reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (rOADM) as well as a 1x4x4 reconfigurable wavelength router in variants operating in the second and third telecom window. The devices, which can be used at bit rates up to 40 Gbit/s, have a footprint less than 2 mm2 and are based on thermally tunable vertically coupled microring resonators fabricated in the high contrast (Δn≈0.55) Si3N4/SiO2 materials system. In addition to the presented devices a new polarization diversity scheme is proposed that solves the issue of polarization dependence behavior of microring resonators without the need of doubling the optical circuit

1-concave basis for TU games
The first stage of research, twenty years ago, on the subclass of 1-convex TU games dealt with its characterization through some regular core structure. Appealing abstract and practical examples of 1-convex games were missing until now. Both drawbacks are solved. On the one hand, a generating set for the cone of 1-concave cost games is introduced with clear affinities to the unanimity games taking into account the complementary transformation on coalitions. The dividends within this new game representation are used to characterize the 1-concavity constraint as well as to investigate the core property of the Shapley value for cost games. We present a simple formula to compute the nucleolus and the τ-value within the class of 1-convex/1-concave games and show that in a 1-convex/1-concave game there is an explicit relation between the nucleolus and the Shapley value. On the other hand, an appealing practical example of 1-concave cost game has cropped up not long ago in Sales’s Ph.D study of Catalan university library consortium for subscription to journals issued by Kluwer publishing house, the so-called library cost game which turn out to be decomposable into the abstract 1-concave cost games of the generating set mentioned above

Pricing Liquidity Risk with Heterogeneous Investment Horizons
We develop an asset pricing model with stochastic transaction costs and investors with heterogeneous horizons. Depending on their horizon, investors hold different sets of assets in equilibrium. This generates segmentation and spillover effects for expected returns, where the liquidity (risk) premium of illiquid assets is determined by investor horizons and the correlation between liquid and illiquid asset returns. We estimate our model for the cross-section of U.S. stock returns and find that it generates a good fit, mainly due to a combination of a substantial expected liquidity premium and segmentation effects, while the liquidity risk premium is small
Ultrafast all-optical wavelength conversion in silicon-insulator waveguides by means of cross phase modulation using 300 femtosecond pulses
In this paper we report the ultrafast all-optical wavelength conversion in Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) waveguides. We used a pump-probe setup with 300 femtosecond pulses to demonstrate large temporal phase-shifts, caused by the Kerr effect and free carrier generation. Large wavelength shifts of a 1683nm probe signal have been observed. The wavelength conversion, ranging from 10nm redshifts to 15nm blueshifts, depending on the time delay between the pump and probe pulses, is caused by the pump induced Cross Phase Modulation. Furthermore, an all-optical switching scheme using SOI microring resonators is discussed. These results enable ultrafast all-optical switching using SOI microring resonators
Connecting the dots in classical Hodgkin Lymphoma
Connecting the dots, by integrating data from various domains, including quantitative PET data, serum biomarkers, tumor microenvironment composition, and clinical data this thesis paves the way for more personalized and effective therapeutic strategies for classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (cHL) patients. cHL is characterized by a small percentage of malignant Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells within a complex tumor microenvironment abundant in immune cells. Despite this, HRS cells effectively evade immune responses. Diagnosis relies on biopsy and 18F-FDG PET-CT scans, with treatment primarily consisting of risk-stratified chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, a significant proportion of patients experience primary refractory disease or relapse.Through the research described in this thesis, we identified significant prognostic factors for progression free survival, developed a prognostic model utilizing radiomics PET scan analysis, and synergistically integrated this with serum and genetic biomarkers to enhance prognostic accuracy and treatment decision-making in cHL
