Bufoides meghalayana, the Khasi Hills Rock Toad, is an Endangered species of tropical bufonid (Stuart et al., 2008), restricted to the Mawblang Plateau, ca. 5 km south of Cherrapunjee, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya State, north-eastern India. Since its discovery by Yazdani and Chanda (1971: as Ansonia meghalayana), and reallocation to the monotypic genus Bufoides by Pillai and Yazdani (1973), it has been cited only in regional reviews (e.g., Chanda 1994; 2002) and in checklists (Frost 1985; Dutta 1997)

On the type specimens of Pareas macularius Theobald, 1868 and Pareas berdmorei Theobald, 1868 with the designation of a lectotype for Pareas macularius (Squamata: Serpentes: Pareidae)

In two different publications, William Theobald described, during the same year (1868), two taxa at species level in the snake genus Pareas, namely Pareas macularius and Pareas berdmorei, both based on the same syntypes. However, these two taxa are distinct at species level. We here discuss these descriptions, especially that of P. berdmorei which might have raised a nomenclatural problem. We examined their respective type specimens and we here designate a lectotype for Pareas macularius. </jats:p

The study of publications and of museum specimens allows unequivocal identification of the type specimens of Pyxicephalus khasianus Anderson, 1871. These specimens were collected by Thomas Jerdon at the same time as the type specimens of Rana laticeps Boulenger, 1882 and belong to the same biological species. We describe and figure the lectotypes of Pyxicephalus khasianus and of Rana laticeps and give measurements of the other specimens seen by the authors of the original descriptions of both taxa. Thus, both names having been regularly used in literature, the valid name of this species is Limnonectes khasianus (Anderson, 1871), and Rana laticeps Boulenger, 1882 is its junior subjective synonym.</p
