Regular Cervical Cancer Screening for Iranian Women: Facilitators and Barriers
Introduction: Regular cervical cancer screening is an effective strategy to reduce the incidence and mortality rate of this disease. Therefore, the present study aimed to explain facilitators and barriers to performing regular Pap smear tests in Iranian women.
Methods: This qualitative study was performed in 2017 in medical centers in Hamadan. The participants in this study were 23 women and 8 health care workers who were selected through purposive sampling. The inclusion criteria were the willingness to participate in the study and having the ability to communicate properly. The data were collected using in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method with MAXQDA10 software.
Results: Three main concepts were recognized as facilitators and barriers to regular Pap smear testing: (1) Belief vs. disbelief in the possibility of cancer control and treatment, (2) Priority vs. non-priority of health in life, and (3) Ability vs. inability to overcome the challenges ahead.
Conclusion: Given the results of the study, it is necessary to establish policies to increase people's sensitivity to testing and the dominance of screening culture in society. Health officials also need to support training programs to promote women's understanding of the importance and impact of early diagnosis in controlling and treating cervical cancer and to develop and implement programs to reduce or eliminate financial, time, and emotional barriers

Seeking Protection in the Heart of the Storm: Findings from a Grounded Theory Study
Background. Nurse protection is a multifaceted concept that has become increasingly relevant in recent years. Despite its importance in effectively managing pandemics, there is still a gap in knowledge about how nurses achieve protection in hospitals. Objective. To describe the process of seeking protection among nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods. A grounded theory approach from 2020 to 2022, employing purposive and theoretical sampling. Face-to-face and online interviews were conducted with 25 participants, resulting in 29 interviews. Data analysis was carried out using Corbin and Strauss's method (2015). Results. The analysis revealed that nurses encountered numerous obstacles related to patients, nurses themselves, organizations, and the passage of time during the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges were intertwined with three key concepts: transformations, inequalities, and emotional challenges, highlighting the multifaceted nature of nurses' protection concerns. In response, nurses employed a protective strategy bolstered by catalysts to address these challenges. This strategy encompassed both optimistic outlooks ("Bright horizon") and somber reflections ("Unpleasant reflection"). Ultimately, seeking protection in the heart of the storm emerged as the core concept, representing the multifaceted process through which nurses navigate and seek protection amidst the unique challenges posed by the pandemic. Conclusions. This study presents a comprehensive theory that explicitly explains the multifaceted process of seeking protection among hospital-employed nurses during a pandemic. The theory captures the interconnectedness of challenges faced by nurses and the protective strategies they employ while acknowledging the nuanced balance between hopeful prospects and sobering reflections. Implications for Nursing Management. Policymakers, managers, and educators can utilize the findings to improve nursing management and support systems. By increasing awareness, addressing challenges, and providing robust support, they can enhance the well-being and effectiveness of nurses during healthcare crises, ultimately improving patient care quality
The effect of education through a mobile application on self-care behavior in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary: A randomized clinical trial
Background & Aim: Patients who receive percutaneous coronary interventions often display inadequate levels of self-care actions, which could create difficulties in managing the disease and achieving favorable treatment results. This study investigates the impact of using an educational mobile application on self-care behaviors in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.
Methods & Materials: A randomized clinical trial was conducted with 110 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions at Shahid Rajaei Hospital in Karaj, Iran, in 2023. The study enrolled and assigned them to either the intervention group (n=55) or the control group (n=55) by block randomization. In addition to training upon discharge, the experimental group received educational resources via a mobile phone application. The data collection instruments included MSCBS. Patients completed the MSCBS before the intervention and 4 weeks later. The data were analyzed with SPSS 21. The study's level of significance was set to P<0.05.
Results: Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in the self-care scores and the subscales between the two groups (P<0.05). Nonetheless, After the intervention, a significant difference was observed in the self-care scores and the subscales between the control and intervention groups, (p=0.001), and the difference in scores between the control and intervention groups increased significantly after the intervention and the scores of the intervention group had a significant increase compared to the scores of the control group.
Conclusion: The study showed that the mobile phone educational application could improve self-care behaviors in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions. Therefore, it can be recommended that nurses working in medical centers use this educational application to enhance self-care in these patients
