Text-based Semantic Annotation Service for Multimedia Content in the Esperonto project
Within the Esperonto project, an integration of NLP, ontologies and other knowledge bases, is being performed with the goal to implement a semantic annotation service that upgrades the actual Web towards the emerging Semantic Web. Research is being currently conducted on how to apply the Esperonto semantic annotation service to text material associated with still images in web pages. In doing so, the project will allow for semantic querying of still images in the web, but also (automatically) create a large set of text-based semantic annotations of still images, which can be used by the Multimedia community in order to support the task of content indexing of image material, possibly combining the Esperonto type of annotations with the annotations resulting from image analysis
Multilingual Lexical Semantic Resources for Ontology Translation
We describe the integration of some multilingual language resources in ontological descriptions, with the purpose of providing ontologies, which are normally using concept labels in just one (natural) language, with multilingual facility in their design and use in the context of Semantic Web applications, supporting both the semantic annotation of textual documents with multilingual ontology labels and ontology extraction from multilingual text sources
Intelligent multimedia indexing and retrieval through multi-source information extraction and merging
This paper reports work on automated meta-data\ud
creation for multimedia content. The approach results\ud
in the generation of a conceptual index of\ud
the content which may then be searched via semantic\ud
categories instead of keywords. The novelty\ud
of the work is to exploit multiple sources of\ud
information relating to video content (in this case\ud
the rich range of sources covering important sports\ud
events). News, commentaries and web reports covering\ud
international football games in multiple languages\ud
and multiple modalities is analysed and the\ud
resultant data merged. This merging process leads\ud
to increased accuracy relative to individual sources
LREP: A language repository exchange protocol
The recent increase in the number and complexity of the language resources available on the Internet is followed by a similar increase of available tools for linguistic analysis. Ideally the user does not need to be confronted with the question in how to match tools with resources. If resource repositories and tool repositories offer adequate metadata information and a suitable exchange protocol is developed this matching process could be performed (semi-) automatically
Foundation of a component-based flexible registry for language resources and technology
Within the CLARIN e-science infrastructure project it is foreseen to develop a component-based registry for metadata for Language Resources and Language Technology. With this registry it is hoped to overcome the problems of the current available systems with respect to inflexible fixed schema, unsuitable terminology and interoperability problems. The registry will address interoperability needs by refering to a shared vocabulary registered in data category registries as they are suggested by ISO
Factors that influence data quality in caries experience detection: A multilevel modeling approach
Caries experience detection is prone to misclassification. For this reason, calibration exercises which aim at assessing and improving the scoring behavior of dental raters are organized. During a calibration exercise, a sample of children is examined by the benchmark scorer and the dental examiners. This produces a 2 × 2 contingency table with the true and possibly misclassified responses. The entries in this misclassification table allow to estimate the sensitivity and the specificity of the raters. However, in many dental studies, the uncertainty with which sensitivity and specificity are estimated is not expressed. Further, caries experience data have a hierarchical structure since the data are recorded for the surfaces nested in the teeth within the mouth. Therefore, it is important to report the uncertainty using confidence intervals and to take the clustering into account. Here we apply a Bayesian logistic multilevel model for estimating the sensitivity and specificity. The main goal of this research is to find the factors that influence the true scoring of caries experience accounting for the hierarchical structure in the data. In our analysis, we show that the dentition type and tooth or surface type affect the quality of caries experience detection. Copyrigh
