The Texas Miracle: Racial Discrimination Alive and Well Sixty Years after Brown
The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not and how race plays a role in the funding of Texas public school districts. Beyond these determinations, we explore the legal implications that would come from evidence of a discriminatory funding system, specifically in light of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. In this study, we use both quantitative and legal analysis. We explore population-level data containing information on the funding and racial composition of all Texas public school districts. Descriptive methods such as cross-tabulations were paired with correlation and measures of effect size to explore the relationship between race and school district funding. In our legal analysis, we review relevant legal statutes and case law, situating our quantitative findings within the larger, school finance jurisprudence context.Educatio
Debris/ice/TPS assessment and photographic analysis of shuttle mission STS-48
A Debris/Ice/TPS assessment and photographic analysis was conducted for Space Shuttle Mission STS-48. Debris inspection of the flight elements and launch pad were performed before and after launch. Ice/frost conditions on the External Tank were assessed by the use of computer programs, nomographs, and infrared scanner data during cryogenic loading of the vehicle followed by on-pad visual inspection. High speed photography was analyzed after launch to identify ice/debris sources and evaluate potential vehicle damage and/or in-flight anomalies. The debris/ice/TPS conditions and photographic analysis of Mission STS-48 are documented, along with their overall effect on the Space Shuttle Program
Debris/Ice/TPS Assessment and Photographic Analysis for Shuttle Mission STS-41
A Debris/Ice/Thermal Protection System (TPS) assessment and photographic analysis was conducted for Space Shuttle Mission STS-41. Debris inspections of the flight elements and launch pad were performed before and after launch. Documented here are the debris/ice/TPS conditions and photographic analysis of Mission STS-41, and their overall effect on the Space Shuttle Program

A Newfound Power: How the Ohio Supreme Court Should Approach the Next Partisan Gerrymander
Partisan gerrymandering is a practice as old as the nation itself and a problem both state and federal courts continue to struggle with. In 2015, the people of Ohio overwhelmingly voted to amend the state constitution to prevent overly partisan outcomes in state legislative redistricting. Following the 2021 redistricting cycle, the Ohio Supreme Court narrowly struck down several redistricting proposals in what devolved into a protracted fight with legislators and executive officials. This Note carefully lays out the development of redistricting jurisprudence, Ohio’s relevant constitutional provisions, and various state and federal judicial approaches to alleged gerrymanders. Using a combination of these judicial approaches, this Note makes two suggestions for how the Ohio Supreme Court can better adjudicate future partisan gerrymanders
Development of an Excel Model to Evaluate The Stability of Slopes
This objective of this study is to determine a method or tool for taking given slope stability parameters and quickly and effectively determining the factor of safety against sliding of fully softened slopes. This study evaluates the effects of soil and geometric parameters of common slopes, and models these properties in a hypothetical model. The methodology is based on a parametric analysis using the Spencer’s Method of Slices limit equilibrium analysis used in the computer program Slide2. A parametric analysis is performed to determine which soil and/or geometric properties have a high influence on slope stability. The parametric analysis is then checked using a finite element model system using Rocscience’s R2 finite element modeling software. The parameters that influence the global stability were found to be: slope height (h), soil depth (Ds), groundwater ration (Dw/Ds), and the soil friction angle (φ).
A step by step on how the excel model was built is discussed in this report as well as the quality control check that was performed. The results are presented in an Excel tool that can be used in a Monte Carlo simulation to produce a probability of failure as compared to a factory of safety. The limitations to the model and a brief discussion on the results is included

A quantitative analysis of the production, selection, and career paths of Texas public school administrators
Using state-wide, longitudinal data on Texas public school educators employed between the 1991-1991 and 2010-2011 school years, this study explores the disproportionate selection of campus leaders based on ethnicity and gender. Through a combination of descriptive and inferential techniques, this study illustrates how trends in the production, selection, and career paths of administratively-certified educators at the various intersections of ethnicity and gender have changed over time. Controlling for a variety of individual work history and campus characteristics, this study also explores how an administratively-certified educator’s ethnicity and gender affect their probability of procuring a campus leadership position.Educational Administratio
