BackgroundResearch into the effects of Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia on the liver has emerged in the last few years. However, no studies have systematically described liver injury in patients with psittacosis. We present the first report on the clinical features and risk factors of liver injury in patients with Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia.MethodsWe retrospectively collected the clinical parameters for 46 patients with Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia admitted to Jinhua Central Hospital from January 2019 to February 2023. We analyzed the liver function parameters and summarized the clinical characteristics and risk factors of liver injury.ResultsAmong the 46 patients, 39 (84.8%) had abnormal liver function, and 23 (50.0%) had liver injury. The ratio of patients with a history of alcohol consumption (39.1% vs. 4.3%, P =0.004) or severe pneumonia (56.5% vs. 26.1%, P =0.036) was higher in the liver injury group compared with the non-liver injury group. Laboratory tests showed higher lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in the liver injury group (P ConclusionsA history of alcohol consumption and an LDH level of over 473 IU/L are independent risk factors for Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia-related liver injury. It is recommended that particular attention be given to monitoring and evaluating liver function parameters when treating patients with Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia who have a high LDH level and history of alcohol consumption.</p
Estimating Posterior Sensitivities with Application to Structural Analysis of Bayesian Vector Autoregressions
The inherent feature of Bayesian empirical analysis is the dependence of posterior inference on prior parameters, which researchers typically specify. However, quantifying the magnitude of this dependence remains difficult. This article extends Infinitesimal Perturbation Analysis, widely used in classical simulation, to compute asymptotically unbiased and consistent sensitivities of posterior statistics with respect to prior parameters from Markov chain Monte Carlo inference via Gibbs sampling. The method demonstrates the possibility of efficiently computing the complete set of prior sensitivities for a wide range of posterior statistics, alongside the estimation algorithm using Automatic Differentiation. The method’s application is exemplified in Bayesian Vector Autoregression analysis of fiscal policy in U.S. macroeconomic time series data. The analysis assesses the sensitivities of posterior estimates, including the Impulse response functions and Forecast error variance decompositions, to prior parameters under common Minnesota shrinkage priors. The findings illuminate the significant and intricate influence of prior specification on the posterior distribution. This effect is particularly notable in crucial posterior statistics, such as the substantial absolute eigenvalue of the companion matrix, ultimately shaping the structural analysis.</p

Rapid 3D isotropic imaging of whole organ with double-ring light-sheet microscopy and self-learning side-lobe elimination
Bessel-like plane illumination forms a new type of light-sheet microscopy with ultra-long optical sectioning distance that enables rapid 3D imaging of fine cellular structures across an entire large tissue. However, the side-lobe excitation of conventional Bessel light sheets severely impairs the quality of the reconstructed 3D image. Here, we propose a self-supervised deep learning (DL) approach that can completely eliminate the residual side lobes for a double-ring-modulated non-diffraction light-sheet microscope, thereby substantially improving the axial resolution of the 3D image. This lightweight DL model utilizes the own point spread function (PSF) of the microscope as prior information, without the need for external high-resolution microscopy data. After a quick training process based on a small amount of datasets, the grown-up model can restore sidelobe-free 3D images with near isotropic resolution for diverse samples. Using an advanced double-ring light-sheet microscope in conjunction with this efficient restoration approach, we demonstrate 5-minute rapid imaging of an entire mouse brain with size of ~12 mm×8 mm×6 mm and achieve uniform isotropic resolution of ~4μm (1.6-μm voxel) capable of discerning the single neurons and vessels across the whole brain

<p>Maternally inherited endosymbionts inhabit a variety of arthropods. Some of them can protect the arthropod host against a wide range of pathogens. However, very little is known about the association between endosymbionts and pathogen susceptibility in ticks. The present study investigated the effect of endosymbionts on larva-to-nymph transstadial transmission of Babesia microti by Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides ticks. Engorged female ticks were injected with PBS, ciprofloxacin or kanamycin. The offspring larvae were used to infest B. microti-positive mice. Prevalence of B. microti among the nymphs in different treatment groups and its association with endosymbiont density in the larvae were analyzed. The results showed that the prevalence of B. microti in the kanamycin-treated group (63.9%, 95% confidence interval (CI): 52.8–75.0%) was higher than that in the PBS (23.6%, 95% CI: 13.8–33.4%) or ciprofloxacin-treated (25.0%, 95% CI: 15.0–35.0%) groups. This increased prevalence was associated with reduced density of Coxiella-like endosymbiont but was not related to the density of Rickettsia-like endosymbiont. No direct evidence has previously been reported about the impact of Coxiella-like endosymbiont on pathogen susceptibility in ticks. This study reveals that endosymbionts are potentially important defensive symbionts of R. haemaphysaloides which may influence the colonization or susceptibility of B. microti in the tick host.</p
