Regional Differences in Returns to Education in Portugal

    Get PDF
This paper analyses differences in the return to education in Portugal across regions. For this purpose, we use an extended Mincer-type wage equation. OLS regression results indicate that differences in the rewards to education are substantially different across regions. In particular, they are much higher in Lisbon than in other regions. Since the average level of education in Lisbon is much higher in Lisbon than elsewhere such a differential is attributed to the fact that the demand for educated labour is much higher in Lisbon, likely due to differences in technology. A quantile regression analysis reveals that the return to education is not constant across the whole conditional wage distribution. This is valid for the 18 regions examined, although once again the impact of education on wages is higher in Lisbon regardless the quantile we examine.

-------------------------------------------------------The proposal of this rehearsal is to present a discussion of the structural and institutional transformations of the Brazilian agriculture in the period of reformulation of the pattern of public intervention in the agricultural section, when happened of strong coordination Rio Branco – Acre, 20 a 23 de julho de 2008 Sociedade Brasileira de Economia, Administração e Sociologia Rural for a deregulation scenery and emptying of the functions of the public section, with larger participation of the private initiative in the regulation of the productive process. Wood is a very versatile material due to the variations of your intrinsic characteristics. Several use forms can be attributed to the wood that depending on your quality. Quality is a term that should be always associated to the use of the wood and it depends on your properties. In the studies of evaluation of the wood quality, they are usually certain the most important characteristics to have given use. This study aimed to evaluate the wood quality of Eucalyptus sp. clones to your bioenergy use. For this research four clones of Eucalyptus sp. were used. The clones were selected in a commercial planting with spacing 3.5 m x 2.5 m and 78 month years old, located in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Wood characteristics as the basic density, elementary chemical analysis (CHN-O), extractive, Klason lignin (soluble, insoluble and total), ash content and calorific value (gross, inferior and net) were measurement. The used sampling was in obtained disks in five relative longitudinal positions (2%, 10%, 30%, 50% and 70%) of the commercial height of the tree, considered until a diameter of 5 cm. All the disks had about 2.5 cm of thickness. The chemical analyses and to gross calorific value was accomplished with a composed sample considering all the longitudinal positions. The results indicate that differentiates significant among the available genetic materials. All the clones present potential for bioenergy production. The clone 3281 presented higher ash content, lower basic density, lignin content and volumetric caloric value. The gross calorific value didn't differ significantly among the genetic materials. This paper describes a chip-size antenna for operation at 5.7 GHz, assembled with a low-power, low-voltage RF CMOS transceiver, fabricated in UMC RF CMOS 0.18 μm process. Measurements shown a patch antenna with the central frequency of 5.705 GHz, a bandwidth of 90 MHz at −10 dB of return loss, a directive gain of 0.3 dB, with an efficiency of 18%, and a transceiver with a measured total power consumption of 23 mW. This microsystem is intended for the use in each wireless node of a wireless sensor network mounted in a wireless electronic shirt, that monitors the cardio-respiratory function and posture

Education models used across Europe to train Therapeutic Radiographers/Radiotherapists: a cross-case study

Interviews with radiotherapy (RT) stakeholders were completed across four European countries to identify the educational models used across Europe and how they affect competencies of Therapeutic Radiographers/Radiotherapists (TR/RTTs). The stakeholders identified the following educational models: Programmes below European Qualifications Framework (EQF) level 6 (EQF4 or EQF5) RT-only BSc programmes (EQF6)Multiple-specialism BSc programmes (EQF6)RT-only apprenticeships (EQF6)Multiple-specialism BSc followed by an MSc (EQF6→EQF7)Integrated masters (EQF7)RT-only pre-registration MSc (EQF7)‘Common trunk’ model (EQF6 or EQF7) Each educational model has its set of advantages and disadvantages, but most models can be used to achieve the same essential competencies of TR/RTTs. Some models showed weaknesses in their ability to develop adequate RT competencies (low EQF level, low RT-specific content). Regulating the standards of practice at national level ensures that essential competencies are developed across all course programmes, improving the care to RT patients
