Couldn't or Wouldn't? the Influence of Privacy Concerns and Self-Efficacy in Privacy Management on Privacy Protection
Sampling 515 college students, this study investigates how privacy protection, including profile visibility, self-disclosure, and friending, are influenced by privacy concerns and efficacy regarding one's own ability to manage privacy settings, a factor that researchers have yet to give a great deal of attention to in the context of social networking sites (SNSs). The results of this study indicate an inconsistency in adopting strategies to protect privacy, a disconnect from limiting profile visibility and friending to self-disclosure. More specifically, privacy concerns lead SNS users to limit their profile visibility and discourage them from expanding their network. However, they do not constrain self-disclosure. Similarly, while self-efficacy in privacy management encourages SNS users to limit their profile visibility, it facilitates self-disclosure. This suggests that if users are limiting their profile visibility and constraining their friending behaviors, it does not necessarily mean they will reduce self-disclosure on SNSs because these behaviors are predicted by different factors. In addition, the study finds an interaction effect between privacy concerns and self-efficacy in privacy management on friending. It points to the potential problem of increased risk-taking behaviors resulting from high self-efficacy in privacy management and low privacy concerns.Radio-Television-Fil
Sharing, Liking, Commenting, and Distressed? The Pathway Between Facebook Interaction and Psychological Distress
Studies on the mental health implications of social media have generated mixed results. Drawing on a survey of college students (N=513), this research uses structural equation modeling to assess the relationship between Facebook interaction and psychological distress and two underlying mechanisms: communication overload and self-esteem. It is the first study, to our knowledge, that examines how communication overload mediates the mental health implications of social media. Frequent Facebook interaction is associated with greater distress directly and indirectly via a two-step pathway that increases communication overload and reduces self-esteem. The research sheds light on new directions for understanding psychological well-being in an increasingly mediated social world as users share, like, and comment more and more.Radio-Television-Fil

ABC policies and practices have become contentious issues in U.S.-China bilateral relations. Pundits see a U.S.-China AI race and are already debating which country will win. Kaifu Lee, the CEO of Sinovation Ventures, believes that China will exceed the United States in AI in about five years. Others argue that China will never catch up. This essay focuses on two issues: the comparative ABC strengths of the United States and China in data and research and development (R&D); and the emerging ABC policies and practices in the two nations. Empirical analysis suggests that the United States and China lead in different areas. Compared to China's top-down, whole-of-government, national-strategy approach, the U.S. ABC policy has been less articulated but is evolving

Magnetostructural Transformation and Magnetoresponsive Properties of MnNiGe1-xSnx Alloys
The martensitic and magnetic phase transformations in MnNiGe1-xSnx (0 \leq x
\leq 0.200) alloys were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD),
differential thermal analysis (DTA) and magnetization measurements. Results
indicate that the increasing Sn substitution in MnNiGe1-xSnx results in (i)
decrease of martensitic transformation temperature from 460 to 100 K and (ii)
conversion of AFM spiral to antiparallel AFM strcuture in martensite. Based on
these, the remarkable magnetic-field-induced PM/spiral-AFM and FM/AFM
magnetostructural transformations and, large positive and negative
magnetocaloric effects are obtained. The magnetoresponsive effects of
MnNiGe1-xSnx alloys are enhanced by Sn substitution. A structural and magnetic
phase diagram of MnNiGe1-xSnx alloys has been proposed.Comment: 3 pages and 4 figure
Half-titanocene 5-t-butyl-2-(1-(arylimino)methyl)quinolin-8-olate chlorides: Synthesis, characterization and ethylene (co-) polymerization behavior
A series of half-titanocene chloride complexes bearing 5-t-butyl-2-(1-(arylimino)methyl)quinolin-8-olate ligands (L), CpTiLCl₂, has been synthesized in acceptable yields by the stoichiometric reaction of CpTiCl₃ with the respective potassium 5-t-butyl-2-(1-(arylimino)methyl)quinolin-8-olate. All half-titanocene complexes were fully characterized by elemental analysis and NMR spectroscopy, and the molecular structures of the representative complexes C1 and C2 were confirmed as pseudo octahedral at titanium by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. When activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO) or modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO), all titanium complexes exhibited good activities (up to 4.8 × 10⁵ g mol⁻¹(Ti) h⁻¹) towards ethylene polymerization. The obtained polyethylene exhibited ultra-high molecular weight (up to 11.82 × 10⁵ g mol⁻¹) with narrow polydispersity. Furthermore, effective co-polymerization of ethylene with 1-hexene or 1-octene was achieved with several percentages of co-monomer incorporation in the resultant polyethylenes
