    Computeralization of Seaport Operation Management: Competitive Issues and Need of ICT Advancement

    In the perspective of seaport management, computeralization is the top priority issues as related on sustaining their operation and profitability. The dramatically change of global operation of seaport management with un-predictable situation has potential to exposed the seaport management with the major challenges where Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has play a vital role. In the one hand, ICT has potentially to bring the seaport management into the right way in order to face the current change of business environment. However, in the one hand, ICT has potential to brings risks, damage and any kind of negative impact to seaport operation if they miss-implement the suitable strategy to faced in the current practice of operation. As a fundamental of discussion, there are some current trends on seaport management issues will analyzed. The main objective of the paper is to discussed some current trends on competitive advantages issues that faced by seaport operation firms. Secondly, the paper is discussed the sophistication of Information and Communication Technology as used in the operation of seaport management. In the unpredictable business environment, ICT should integrate with seaport management strategy which can help the firms to strengthening their business in the global market position. Finally, some suggestion was made to guiding the seaport authority in integrating ICT sophistication with traditional management of seaport operation as alternatives way

    In general, the development of women entrepreneurship, as well as important to other business sector, has been growing rapidly in Malaysia. The significant importance of women entrepreneurship especially Malay women entrepreneurship to the growth of overall Malaysia‟s economy is proved by the variety of initiatives, policies and organization that established for women entrepreneurs. These are including venture capital, financial funding, training, physical infrastructure such as entrepreneur incubator and laboratory, business consultant, an organization of National Women Entrepreneurs, USAHANITA's, and so on. However, contribution of Malay women entrepreneur is still not really discussed intensively and to the best of knowledge, the improvement of business performance has not tested well because of some issues and challenges in the marketplace. Thus, the main objective of this paper is discussing the challenges that faced by Malay women entrepreneur such as identified as local and global based issues. Thus, the need to strengthening Malay women entrepreneur competitive level is a vital important to fostering the greater capacity of them, especially for achieved global standard of technological and innovation. Strategically, this paper is focused on business intelligent resources as information technology strategy for strengthening Malay women entrepreneurs' to positioning them into competitive advantages on the marketplace. Business intelligent is not really explored to apply in contact of Malay women entrepreneur strategy because of some limitations. Finally, some aspect of information strategy planning is discussed for establish business intelligent within Malay women entrepreneur firms, because key success factors of business intelligent implementation in started from strategy planning point of view

    A usability study of online library systems: A case of Sultanah Bahiyah Library, Universiti Utara Malaysia

    The purpose of this study was to investigate usability of online library systems in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). This study evaluated the usability of Sultanah Bahiyah Library’s web based systems by investigating the aspects of simplicity, comfort, user friendliness, control, readability, information adequacy/task match, navigability, recognition, access time, relevancy, consistency and visual presentation. This study examined user’s views about the usability of digital libraries whereas current and perceived importance. A sample of 45 students of Master of Business Administration (MBA) has been chosen. The Sultanah Bahiyah Library’s web based systems is very important especially for students and academic staffs of Universiti Utara Malaysia. The usability of the Library’s web based systems makes students easy to connect and for that the website should be helpful and attractive within good contents. The result found that the parallel nature of the users’ current views about the usability of digital libraries and users’ perceived importance of digital library usability allows direct comparison of all usability properties. The overall results yielded significant difference for the variables of user’s current views and perceived importance

    A Study on Financial-Accounting Methods for Prospecting the Lifetime Value of Hypermarket Business: A Critical Used of Geospatial Method

    Recently, the hypermarket profitability is an important issue for the world wide retailing industry with vast literature was found on its definitions, measurements, and models of studied. In general, majority of related work showed that various methodologies and models have been applied to evaluate the profitability of hypermarket, where more dominants on financial and accounting methods. Specifically, estimate the hypermarket profitability are always dominating by financial and accounting methods and approaches with finale attention on maximizing the customer lifetime value (CLV). In fact, most of traditional measurement have been used are interest rate, chuck rate, lease, as well as income and consumptions of consumers. However, a little attention has been given to using others variables, as well as spatial based measurement although it has big potential to contributes on prospecting the profitability of hypermarket. In addition, continuously, financial or accounting variables has been improved and reused in different ways where the method itself in overall is still remains as before. The objective of this paper is to overview the weakness of financial and accounting methods with focused on theoretical and applications issues of estimating hypermarket profitability. Secondly, this paper is aimed to suggest geospatial method as alternative ways for bridged the gap of existing works regarding the estimations of hypermarket lifetime value. By using geospatial variables as well as spatial method, this work will contributes on establish new ways of estimated the CLV of the hypermarket where spatial platform is function to visualized the real situations of financial and accounting information as well as it emerge in the real marketplaces. In future, the use of geospatial method will be brings new hope on better understanding on CLV especially how CLV can estimated by both financial-accounting and spatial variables
