‘A National Unity of Interests and Affections’: frameworks of the Union in the Early Brazilian Novel

UK novelistic fiction has been consistently acknowledged as a major repository of narrative paradigms for the incipient Brazilian novel. Genres originally offering a narrative solution for tensions embedded throughout the social life of the United Kingdom would cross the Atlantic and, by mid-nineteenth century, be rendered instrumental for structuring local experience. Among these genres, arguably, was the national tale. National tales aimed to bridge the social dilemmas inherent to a multicultural state like the United Kingdom and, more broadly, the British Empire. Works such as The Wild Irish Girl (1806), by Sidney Owenson, Marriage (1818), by Susan Ferrier, and The Absentee (1812), by Maria Edgeworth, engendered sentimental plots of star-crossed lovers who stood for the divergent UK nationalities, allegorically and didactically overcoming the perceived English prejudice against the Irish and the Scots. Circulating in Brazil for at least five decades, national tales purveyed a narrative framework whereby the unsolvable contradiction between colonial heritage and postcolonial nationalism could be fictionally negotiated in an intercultural erotic union. f(R)f(R) global monopole revisited

In this paper the $f(R)$ global monopole is reexamined. We provide an exact solution for the modified field equations in the presence of a global monopole for regions outside its core, generalizing previous results. Additionally, we discuss some particular cases obtained from this solution. We consider a setup consisting of a possible Schwarzschild black hole that absorbs the topological defect, giving rise to a static black hole endowed with a monopole's charge. Besides, we demonstrate how the asymptotic behavior of the Higgs field far from the monopole's core is shaped by a class of spacetime metrics which includes those ones analyzed here. In order to assess the gravitational properties of this system, we analyse the geodesic motion of both massive and massless test particles moving in the vicinity of such configuration. For the material particles we set the requirements they have to obey in order to experience stable orbits. On the other hand, for the photons we investigate how their trajectories are affected by the gravitational field of this black hole.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure and 1 table. Gestão da diversidade cultural: um estudo exploratório

Num cenário de mundo cada vez mais globalizado e integrado em que vivemos é também cada vez mais comum encontrarmos um contexto de diversidade cultural dentro das empresas, mesmo quando são pequenas empresas. A gestão da diversidade cultural acaba por fazer parte da rotina dos gestores, mas nem sempre esses possuem o prévio preparo para lidar com este tipo de cenário. A gestão da diversidade cultural leva-nos a diversas questões onde as respostas, por muitas vezes, podem variar de acordo com cada contexto. Uma gestão cuidadosa e atenta precisa ser feita para que o sucesso da mesma não seja colocado em causa. Este trabalho tem por objetivo geral compreender a perceção que funcionários de empresas da região metropolitana de Lisboa têm da gestão da diversidade cultural que é praticada em seus locais de trabalho. Neste trabalho entrevistamos pessoas que convivem com a diversidade cultural em seus locais de trabalho, sendo que cada entrevistado trabalha em uma empresa diferente. Entre os entrevistados teremos relatos de funcionários regulares e funcionários de GRH. A investigação demonstrou que não há uma clara perceção de atuação diretamente relacionada com a diversidade cultural em nenhuma das empresas, e que manuais sobre o tema não fazem parte dos manuais que cada empresa possui. Apesar de cada entrevistado ter dados sinais de que entendia que a adaptação à empresa dependia de um esforço dele próprio, vimos que a literatura apresentar soluções para que o gestor de RH atue nessa adaptação fazendo com que eventuais problemas possam ser solucionados de uma maneira mais rápida e eficaz.In this scenario of an increasingly globalized and integrated world in which we live, it is also increasingly common to find a context of cultural diversity inside the companies, even when they are small. The cultural diversity management ends up being part of the routine of managers, but they are not always prepared to deal with this type of scenario. The management of cultural diversity leads us to several questions, and the answers can often vary according to each context. A careful and attentive management needs to be done so that its success is not lost. This work has as general objective the understanding of the perception that the employees of companies of the metropolitan region of Lisbon have from the cultural diversity management that is done in their workplaces. In this work we looked for people who lives with the cultural diversity in their workplaces, and each interviewee was working in a different company. Among the interviewees we will have reports from regular employees and HR employees. The investigation has shown that there is no clear perception of a management directly related to cultural diversity in any of the companies, and that manuals on the subject are not part of the manuals that each company has. Despite the fact that each interviewee showed signs of understanding that his adaptation depended on his own effort, we saw that the literature presents solutions for HR to act in this adaptation, so some problems could be solved quickly and effectively

Síntese da Marcanina A e de derivados de piranonaftoquinonas via reações de Heck-lactonização

Dissertação (mestrado) — Universidade de Brasília, Instituto de Química, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Química, 2021.Três novas rotas sintéticas para a síntese de piranonaftoquinonas e azaantraquinonas foram estudadas, sendo elas a Heck-lactonização, Heck-lactamização e a ativação C-H catalisada por paládio. Entretanto, apenas a Heck-lactonização e a Heck-lactamização foram bem-sucedidas, as melhores reações foram feitas em água sem ligante fosfina. A utilização desses métodos rendeu uma piranonaftoquinona inédita na literatura e a síntese de uma importante azaantraquinona a Marcanina A em apenas três etapas reacionais. A condição aprimorada para a Heck-lactonização envolve a utilização das condições de Jeffery e o da Heck-lactamização um excesso de base. O rendimento global das duas rotas sintéticas propostas foram de 32% para a Heck-lactonização e 22% para a Heck-lactamização, ambas em três etapas.Fundação de Apoio à Pesquisa do Distrito Federal (FAP/DF) e Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES).Three new synthetic routes for the synthesis of piranonaftoquinones and azaantraquinones were studied: Heck-lactonization, Heck-lactamization, and palladium catalyzed C-H activation. Only the Heck- lactonization and Heck-lactamization reactions were successful and the best reactions were made in water and without phosphine ligand. These methods yielded a new piranonaftoquinone unpublished yet, and an azaantraquinone the Marcanine A with only three steps. The enhanced reaction condition for the Heck-lactonization was realized with the Jeffery’s condtions and for the Heck-lactamization an excess of base was applied. The overall yield was 32% for the Heck- lactonization, and 22% for the Heck-lactamization, both in three steps

A polícia como fonte e personagem: uma análise de A sangue frio e Rota 66

Este trabalho de conclusão de curso objetiva analisar a polícia como fonte e personagem nos livros A sangue frio, de Truman Capote, e Rota 66, de Caco Barcellos, obras que são um intenso trabalho de reportagem. Esta análise será feita levando em conta o fato de que A sangue frio é um livro de jornalismo literário e Rota 66 de jornalismo investigativo. Com este intuito, ressalta-se que a função da fonte e do personagem para a elaboração de uma reportagem são essenciais para comprovar a veracidade dos fatos abordados no texto jornalístico. Para isso, foi feito um levantamento teórico que tratará de reportagem, personagem, fonte, jornalismo literário e jornalismo investigativo. A seguir, será feita uma correlação do embasamento teórico com o trabalho realizado por Capote e Barcellos no que diz respeito a fonte e personagem. Por fim, apresenta-se críticas às duas obras com foco nos personagens e fontes ressaltando a forma com que os dois jornalistas trabalharam esses dois itens e correlacionando-os ao embasamento teórico

Síntese de piranonaftoquinonas via reação de Hecklactonização

Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (graduação)—Universidade de Brasília, Instituto de Química, 2018.As piranonaftoquinonas possuem ampla aplicação medicinal, por isso, existem diversas maneiras de se sintetizar essa classe de compostos na literatura. Esse trabalho propõe um novo método para a síntese de piranonaftoquinonas pela reação derivada das reações de Heck, a Heck-lactonização, em duas etapas. Primeiramente, realizando a síntese dos agentes de arilação a partir da halogenação de uma naftoquinona conhecida como lausona. Obtivemos com grande êxito os compostos bromolausona e iodolausona utilizados na próxima etapa. Os reagentes sintetizados anteriormente reagiram com ésteres conjugados com insaturações beta à carbonila, o crotonato de metila ou o maleato de metila, em diversas condições com diferentes bases, catalisadores de sais de paládio e solventes. Obtivemos, no geral, três produtos apenas para o crotonato. O produto de Heck com seus isômeros cis e trans, um produto de esterificação e o produto desejado, a 4-metil-2H-benzo[g]chromene-2,5,10-triona, confirmada por ressonância magnética de hidrogênio e espectrometria de massas
