APPLICATION AND USES OF INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES WITH REFERENCE TO ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGES IN TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU : A STUDY
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an important resource of a Modern Library or Information centre. The ICT is the electronic means of capturing, processing, storing and communicating information. It encompasses an array of hardware, software services and networks that enables access to digital information. Hence, this study deals with the application and uses of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Academic Libraries with reference to Arts and Science Colleges in Tirunelveli. The researcher had employed a well structured close - ended questionnaire for collecting the required data from PG students, Research scholars and Faculty members of six colleges that are serving within the corporation area of Tirunelveli and affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. Survey method was used for collecting primary data. The findings of the study of the respondents are adequacy of using ICT based resources. The study reveals that 781 (56.44%) respondents always using ICT based resources, 632 (40.49%) sometimes using ICT based resources

INFORMATION SEEKING BEHAVIOUR OF WOMEN LIBRARY USERS IN THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES OF SOUTH TAMIL NADU - A STUDY
Today, information has become a least necessity of everyday life. For anything and everything information is required. Information can be gathered from a variety of sources. Libraries serve as a center for providing the right information to the right people at all times. User studies are to be recognized as an important part of the information packages. Information providers such as libraries need to be aware of their information seeking methods in order that they might be able to provide better services. This paper intents to study the Information Seeking Behaviour of Women Library users in the university libraries Southern District of Tamil Nadu with reference to Alagappa, Madurai Kamaraj and MS universities. The respondents are women post-graduate students, women research scholars and women staff members. Data has been collected from a sample of 1200 respondents. The major objectives of the present study are to identify the women library users, their need of information, their frequency of visit, the amount of time they spent in the library, their usage of formal information sources and their usage of e-resources. The significance of the study is to analyse and evaluate facts and facets pertaining to the Information Seeking Behaviour of women students, scholars and faculty members in the university libraries in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. The data collected have been analysed separately for each object and for each university. The main findings of the study are that only 45 percent to 67 percent of the women respondents visit library daily. Since library hours have not been allotted in the time table, many PG students visit library only during their leisure hours. Majority of the women respondents visit library in all the three Universities to collect information for their career development. The study reveals that majority of the PG students and research scholars refer to e-resources to update their general knowledge as well current information about their subjects
MAPPING OF GLOBAL NATURAL HAZARDS RESEARCH PRODUCTIVITY DURING 2006-2015
This paper examines with scientometric tools a total of 7659 publications on natural hazards indexed in web of science database during the period 2006-2015. The average number of publications published per year was 765.9. The highest number of publications (1264) was recorded in the year 2015. The relative growth rates (RGR) has decreased from 2007 (0.72) to 2015 (0.18) in the span of 10 years. The doubling time (DT) has gradually increased from 0.96 in 2007 to 3.85 in 2015. The exponential growth of publications was observed during the study period. Majority of publications were found in English language. Authors from USA have contributed maximum number of publications compared to the other countries and India stood 8th rank in terms of productivity in this period. A total of 7274 different institutions were involved in the productivity, among them Harvard University, USA contributed highest number of 110 articles. The subject Geology contributed the largest share (22.93%) among subjects followed by Environmental science ecology (19.66%), water resources (15.45%) and Meteorology atmospheric sciences (12.43%) etc since the natural hazards are delt by many disciplines
A STUDY ON DETERMINING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE ELECTRONIC INFORMATION SOURCES AND SERVICES BY THE USER’S OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN TAMIL NADU, INDIA
In the modern world, electronic resources have become very popular and libraries are no exception. Today the academic libraries are procuring more and more e-resources for their libraries. This paper is a review on the uses of e-resources by the users of university libraries in Tamil Nadu. The main objectives of the study are: to know the type of electronic resources accessed by the users, to study the awareness on E-resources by faculty and research scholars, and to identify the problems faced while accessing electronic information services. Both primary and secondary data were used for the study. Out of 1050 respondents selected from seven universities, only 870 returned the questionnaires fully completed.
The primary data collected were tabulated and analysed using simple statistical tools such as averages, percentages, standard deviations and SPSS. Hypotheses were set and tested using chi-square formula (O-E2 / E). For analysis and interpretation of the data collected, tables and diagrams are used wherever necessary. The outcome of the study has been reported through five chapters. Following the important findings of the study, certain suggestions have been made to be implemented by the selected university libraries in Tamil Nadu

RESEARCH TRENDS IN GLOBAL OUTPUT OF COSMIC RAYS: A SCIENTOMETRIC ANALYSIS
This paper attempts to highlight the publication status and growth of global cosmic rays research output of Web of Science during 2004-2013. A total of 20395 publications were published on cosmic rays during this period. The average number of publications per year is 2039.5 and the highest number of publications 2565 was published in 2009. The scientometric parameters studied in this paper include forms of publications, annual growth rate, relative growth rate and doubling time of publications, authorship pattern, identification of most prolific authors, country wise distribution of publications, identification of highly productive institutions, language wise distribution of publications and highly preferred source titles for publications
