    Story Problem for Low-Grade Primary Students: Discourse Analysis

    Story problem is the type of math problems presented by the media of language and story. This study was done to identify the type of discourse structure of the story problem in mathematics textbooks for low-grade student in primary school. The focus of study is viewed from the number of components and the type of the integration of those components. There are three components in the story problems, namely introduction, events, and question component. Nine mathematics textbooks of 1th, 2nd, and 3rd were taken as sample with three books for each grade. The study result about the number of components composing story problems also shows that most of story problems for primary one, two, and three-grade consist of three components. The others are story problems with only two components by omitting the first component which is the introduction component. Viewed from the components integration type, result shows that story problems components that are combined for primary two and three are the introduction and events components or the events and question components. The integration between introduction component and events component is indicated by the conjunction “and”, “while/whereas”, and a comma. The integration between events and question component is indicated by the conjunction “if”. It will all produce complex sentences. The conclusion of this study is that, viewed from their discourse structure, most story problems for primary one and two students are relatively shorter than three, by omitting the setting and character element in introduction. It implies that there is no introduction part to introduce the context or narrative elements whose function is to connect the real world and mathematics

    Abstract: Improving quality of story telling teaching through cooperative method at elementary school in rural area. Purpose of this research was to describe improvement of process and learning achievement in story telling at an elementary school in rural area. The research was a collaborative action research among researcher, teachers, and students. Data about process and learning achievement of story telling was collected through observation, interview, and test technique. Research results showed: Firstly, with a simple and clear story stimulus complemented with cooperative method (contains 4 children), motivation in reception story stimulus, story telling practice activities, and cooperative activities in group story telling was improved. Secondly, with cooperative method, story-telling competencies was improved, especially through giving feedback among students in one group.Keywords: story telling learning, cooperative method, elementary school Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan peningkatan proses dan hasil pembelajaran bercerita dengan metode kooperatif. Subjek penelitiannya siswa kelas 5 SD di kawasan pedesaan. Penelitian ini merupakan model penelitian tindakan kolaboratif antara peneliti, guru, dan siswa. Data proses dan hasil pembelajaran bercerita dikumpulkan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan tes. Hasil penelitian: Pertama, dengan stimulus cerita yang sederhana dan jelas serta melalui metode kooperatif yang terdiri 4 anak, motivasi meresepsi stimulus cerita, aktivitas berlatih bercerita, dan aktivitas kerjasama dalam bercerita berkelompok dapat terkembangkan.     Evaluation of the application of the ACEP cycle to student writing learning outcome

    The modification of the ACEP cycle is a pedagogical strategy consisting of four components: (A) Activities.  (C) Classroom discussion.  (E) Exercises. (P) Performance. The application of ACEP cycle modifications is used as a strategy to improve writing skills. This is the primary focus to consider in improving writing skills. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how effective the process of learning writing skills was by applying ACEP cycle modifications. This study used a mixed-methods approach. At the qualitative stage, an explanatory description design strategy is applied to collect comprehensive and in-depth information about the learning model applied by the teacher in the classroom. A pre- and post-test   control group design is used in the quantitative stage. The average score of students using the ACEP cycle modification was 82.64, higher than that of students who studied under the demonstration learning model which was 80.03. This finding is reinforced by the result of the significance coefficient = 0.006 < 0.05 so H0 is rejected. Thus, there is a difference in average student learning outcomes between the modification of the ACEP cycle and the demonstration learning model. ACEP cycle modification has practical implications for writing skills. First, it can easily identify the initial condition of students' writing skills. Second, ACEP cycle modification allows teachers to better understand how students build an understanding of writing concepts. Third, students can actively participate in the learning process and fourth, teachers can observe the construction stage and measure student progress more accurately

    METODE MIND MAPPING UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN BERBICARA SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR

    Abstract: This action research aims to increasing: (1) the students’ active in a speaking skill learnin, and (2) increasing the fourth grade students’ speaking skill of Karanganyar 1st State Elementary School in academic year 2011/2012. The result of the research shows that mind mapping method can increase the quality of speaking skill learning, both being active or the result, of fourth grade students of Karanganyar 1st State Elementary School. The increasing of being active is indicated by the acquisition of being active percentage that can be seen by four aspects. There are asking if there is something unknown, answering or giving feedback, caring of teacher’s explanation, and staying on their own chair. The average of their being active from 40 students in the first cycle increases in the second cycle from 54,4 % to 78,1 %. This research also shows that using mind mapping method can increases the result of speaking skill learning in the fourth grade students of Karanganyar 1st State Elementary School. It can be seen by the number of students who can reach the minimum completeness. In the first cycle, the number of students who get a school grade more than 68 are 25 students or 62,5 % from the total number of students (40 students). In the second cycle, the number of students who get a school grade more than 68 are 34 students or 85 % from the total number of students.     Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Objek penelitian ini adalah pembelajaran berbicara siswa kelas V-A SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta dengan penerapan metode mind mapping untuk meningkatkan kualitas proses dan hasil pembelajaran berbicara. Penelitian ini berbentuk penelitian penelitian tindakan kelas. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancara, tes, dan analisis dokumen. Proses penelitian dilakukan dalam tiga siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri atas empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V-A SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta, total siswa adalah 32 dan guru sebagai kolaborator. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, angket, tes, dan analisis dokumen. Validitas data menggunakan teknik triangulasi dan review informan. Analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis komparatif dan deskriptif dengan analisis kritis. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat peningkatan keterampilan berbicara pada siswa dengan penerapan metode mind mapping. Selain itu, juga terdapat peningkatan kualitas dan proses pembelajaran berbicara siswa yang ditunjukkan dengan meningkatnya keaktifan dan motivasi siswa. Peningkatan juga ditunjukkan oleh peningkatan persentase keteampilan berbicara siswa. Kata kunci: keterampilan berbicara, mind mapping, kualitas proses, kualitas hasil pembelajara

    ANALISIS ALIH KODE DAN CAMPUR KODE PADA NOVEL NEGERI 5 MENARA KARYA AHMAD FUADI

    Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) bentuk alih kode dan campur kode, (2) faktor penyebab alih kode dan campur kode, dan (3) fungsi alih kode dan campur kode novel Negeri 5 Menara karya Ahmad Fuadi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan sampel percakapan pada novel Negeri 5 Menara karya Ahmad Fuadi. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah teknik purposif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah analisis dokumen. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah model analisis mengalir. Hasil penelitian ini sebagai berikut. Pertama, gejala alih kode terjalin dalam empat formasi. Gejala campur kode terjalin dalam tujuh formasi. Kedua, faktor pendorong alih kode berkaitan dengan pembicara dan pribadi pembicara, mitra tutur, fungsi dan tujuan pembicaraan, dan situasi pembicaraan Faktor pendukung meliputi alih kode extralinguistic dan intralinguistik. Faktor extralinguistic berkaitan dengan karakteristik speaker seperti latar belakang sosial, religiusitas perasaan, tingkat pendidikan, dan lokalitas perasaan. Faktor Intralinguistics berkaitan dengan adanya kata-kata dalam bahasa yang dapat menampung konsep makna yang dimaksudkan dalam elemen linguistik dimasukkan. Ketiga, fungsi alih kode dan campur kode novel Negeri 5 Menara karya Ahmad Fuadi adalah untuk menjelaskan, memerintah, berdoa, bertanya, dan menegaskan maksud.     Representation of Islamic Ecotheology in the Novel “Si Anak Kuat”, Tere Liye

    Ecological preservation needs to be done based on natural disparities. Islam teaches that the preservation of nature is also a commandment of Allah which is written in the Al-Qur'an. Literature is one of the good medium in reporting the importance of preserving nature. This study aims to represent the ecotheology of Islam in Tere Liye's novel “Si Anak Kuat”. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Sources of data in this study are documents, namely “Si Anak Kuat” novel by Tere Liye. The technique to collect the data in this study is content analysis. Technique validity of data in this study using triangulation theory. Data analysis techniques using interactive data analysis techniques. The results showed that there are aspects that represent the ecotheology of Islam in Tere Liye's “Si Anak Kuat” novel. The aspects are 1) Tawhid, 2) Khilafah, 3) Amanah, 4) Fairness, and 5) Istislah. Studying Islamic ecotheology is the same as exploring environmental preservation in terms of Islamic teachings

The purpose of this study is to explain: (1) To find the intrinsic element (character) in the novel "Atheis" by Achdiat Karta Mihardja; (2) Finding the intrinsic element (character) in the novel "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari; (3) Finding intertextual intrinsic elements (characters) from the novel "Atheis" by Achdiat Karta Mihardja and the novel "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method and uses an intertextual approach. Researchers obtained data from the Atheis novel by Achdiat Karta Mihardja and the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari, data in the form of direct analysis, interviews, and worksheets from teachers and students of SMA N 1 Gemolong. The technique used for sampling was done by purposive sampling. The data validity was obtained through source triangulation, while the data analysis technique used interactive analysis techniques.
